Episode 19 recap: Wei Cheng is studying The Three-Body Problem.
After listening to Ye Wenjie's story about The Three-Body Problem, Wang Miao quickly left the Red Coast Base and was about to reach the village entrance. Shi Qiang called and said he was waiting for Wang Miao at the village entrance. Chang Wei Si had already investigated the situation at the Red Coast Base, and Wang Miao now understood everything. At this moment, Ye Wenjie was reminiscing about the past of the Red Coast Base and visiting some old friends. Since listening to Ye Wenjie's stories, Wang Miao's concerns about her had all disappeared. However, Shi Qiang still harbored doubts about Ye Wenjie. He believed that Ye Wenjie had a connection with Shen Yu Fei, and he thought that everything couldn't be just a coincidence.
Shortly after, one of Ye Wenjie's old friends appeared at the Red Coast Base. He looked at the wreckage before him and gently touched it with his hand. This was where everything started. In the eyes of her friends, Ye Wenjie was the spiritual leader, the supreme commander of the Earth-Trisolaris Organization. It was she who lit the lamp in the darkness, and she was the one who pressed the button to establish contact with the Trisolarans. They even believed that the great decision she made at that time was more brilliant than all the stars shining in the sky.
Ye Wenjie felt that the true counterpart who established a communication mechanism with the Trisolarans was the Second Red Coast. The memories of the events from 19 years ago flashed in their minds. An airplane flew over the sunset-lit strait and landed on the ground. At that time, Ye Wenjie and her old friends were still young. Three years ago, it was Ye Wenjie who provided the contact frequency between her old friends and the Trisolarans, which led to the establishment of the Second Red Coast.
At that time, faced with the first group of members of the Earth-Trisolaris Organization, the old friends' ideal was to ask the Trisolarans to transform human civilization, curb human madness and evil, and make Earth become harmonious and prosperous again, a world without guilt. Everything had changed now, and the old friends believed that Ye Wenjie didn't agree with them because she failed to see the true nature of humanity. However, everything she did was out of love for humanity, love for Earth, and even becoming the supreme commander was to prevent the Earth-Trisolaris Organization from losing control.
Ye Wenjie still felt a lot of self-blame. She believed that she had done too little. The old friends had also studied her past and had even read some of her works. They knew that Ye Wenjie was influenced by her late father, and her strong sense of responsibility made her hold onto the last bit of hope, still clinging to the brilliant civilization of humanity. At the same time, the old friends wanted Ye Wenjie to understand that the evil of humanity would never be eradicated, and even her first disciple had betrayed her.
Wang Miao, who returned to the database, also learned about the situation at the Red Coast. After all these years, they still hadn't made contact with the universe. Wang Miao understood that once someone made contact with extraterrestrial beings, the world would undergo enormous changes. Xu Bing Bing, while investigating the data, accidentally discovered that Ye Wenjie's husband and Lei Zhi Cheng were involved in an accident on the same day, which deepened Shi Qiang's suspicion of her even further.
After examining some information, the group continued to hurry back to Ye Wenjie's house to investigate further. However, neither side found the answers they were seeking. Shi Qiang and Wang Miao then turned around and prepared to find Wei Cheng to inquire about the situation. Wei Cheng subsequently explained to them the true reason he had come there—someone had threatened him. As he spoke, he also recounted some of his past experiences.
In his younger days, Wei Cheng had great mathematical talent but failed to make good use of it. Afterwards, things went downhill for him, and many events occurred. Later, in order to hypnotize himself, Wei Cheng tried to fill himself with emptiness, reaching a state where he was surrounded by an infinite space, devoid of anything, not even light. Being within it caused an inexplicable restlessness.
Within his infinite space, Wei Cheng also created a sphere, but he didn't feel any improvement. He remained suspended there, without the slightest movement or change. Then, he created a second sphere, equal in size and mass to the original one, with their surfaces being fully reflective mirrors rotating around each other. This led to the introduction of a third sphere, resulting in a significant change in the universe of the three spheres, becoming more complex.
After that, Wei Cheng entered the realm of dreams. The three spheres continued to move incessantly in his mind, captivating him deeply. So, from that point on, he had been researching The Three-Body Problem.
When I first started watching Wei Cheng telling the story, I felt frustrated by the slow pace. But when the Three-Body Movement scene came up, I instantly felt the perfect portrayal of the atmosphere from the novel in the Three-Body TV series.
Perhaps the Three-Body series doesn't have the same fast-paced and gripping style as other highly-rated dramas, but this interpretation truly captures the essence of the original work, doesn't it?
