Episode 4 recap: Shi Qiang proposed a collaboration to Wang Miao.
Xiao Shen quickly called Shi Qiang to inform him about the progress of the investigation into Yang Dong's situation. After looking at it, Shi Qiang blamed him for looking at trivial matters because they were all wedding preparations. After hanging up the phone, he quickly saw Shen Yu Fei and Wang Miao coming out of the house. He promptly jotted down the details in his notebook and continued to follow them in his car.
Late at night, Wang Miao was still sitting in his house, unable to sleep. He stared intently ahead, and his wife noticed that something was wrong. Her husband hadn't slept for two or three days. She mentioned that she was considering consulting another psychiatrist about his condition. Wang Miao told his wife about attending a scientific debate a couple of days ago, where many academics discussed the Farmer's Hypothesis he had mentioned to her before, as well as the Shooter's Hypothesis. At the time, he didn't understand the significance of their discussions, but now he did. When scientists encounter phenomena that cannot be explained by science in their research field, they think of the Shooter's Hypothesis. It has almost become instinctual. Only when one truly encounters it can they truly understand. However, his wife didn't understand his meaning at all. Soon, Wang Miao returned to his laboratory to continue his research.
The television news reported an explosion at the Brookhaven National Laboratory in Suffolk County, Blue Island, North America, early yesterday morning. The explosion resulted in 16 casualties among the researchers, including renowned high-energy physicist Dr. Nicholas Brown and nuclear physics expert Dr. John Krata. Both individuals were declared dead due to severe injuries that couldn't be treated. This is the third laboratory accident in North America in recent times. Additionally, scientists researching fringe science claimed to have witnessed unscientific phenomena a month ago, and foreign media are unsure if their statements are related to the frequent accidents resulting in death.
Wang Miao went to the laboratory and quickly remembered Shen Yu Fei's request for him to stop. He recalled everything that had happened around him and made a significant decision. He instructed the people around him to stop the experiment and follow the schedule.
Back in his office, Wang Miao was plagued by negative thoughts. He angrily slammed his computer on the ground and dialed a phone number on his mobile phone. He called Shen Yu Fei to inquire about the lens of the timer. Wang Miao believed it was just a high-intensity nanomaterial, not a high-energy accelerator. He argued that his research was merely applied physics and not worthy of their attention. Shen Yu Fei on the other end of the phone didn't think it was something she should be concerned about. Wang Miao became furious after listening to her words, but he remained steadfast in his research. He admitted that he couldn't explain everything scientifically at the moment because he hadn't bypassed the despicable magician. He had great faith in the current technological capabilities of humanity, including the ability to reach the surface of the moon. He also didn't believe the stories about turkeys and farmers. Shen Yu Fei wanted to help Wang Miao and hoped he wouldn't follow the same path as Yang Dong, but he refused to listen and thought she was using Yang Dong to intimidate him. Eventually, Shen Yu Fei accepted Wang Miao's challenge.
Unbeknownst to Wang Miao, Shi Qiang had not left and had been secretly observing him. The two of them eventually met at the nanotechnology laboratory. Shi Qiang approached Wang Miao directly and expressed his desire to cooperate. Initially, Wang Miao disagreed, but Shi Qiang quickly shared his suspicions about Shen Yu Fei, causing Wang Miao to waver in his decision.
Afterward, Wang Miao went to the home of Yang Dong's mother, Ye Wenjie. She quickly began discussing her daughter, and at this point, she felt she lacked knowledge in the field of education. Wang Miao believed that she had already been a successful mother.
Later, when Wang Miao was outside, he encountered Shi Qiang again. However, at that time, taxis were no longer available, so he reluctantly got into Shi Qiang's car for a ride back. They sat down together for a meal, and Wang Miao couldn't understand why Shi Qiang was so persistent in investigating Yang Dong's case. Shi Qiang openly shared with him the information he had uncovered regarding the connection between the two individuals.
When Wang Miao returned home, he was still angry and accidentally knocked over a glass on the table without noticing his daughter in the room.
Let's start with Astro Boy, the person from the depths of the Atlantic Ocean, Uncle Martin from Mars, E.T. — I watched them out of curiosity in elementary school and developed an interest in them in middle school.
The Three-Body Problem gained attention after winning the Hugo Award, but I hadn't read it. I heard it drove Obama crazy. In order to continuously be at the top, I used my privileges to get hold of "Death's End" even before its release.
After reading it, I felt like I was already the most authoritative person in this world, and nothing else mattered anymore. It's like asking, "How is the candy cake?
" and getting the answer, "It's so delicious that even a county mayor wouldn't exchange it." After I read it, I also had an elevated feeling, as if I didn't even want to become the President of the United States.
The Wandering Earth" is at best a novella by Liu Cixin, but this one is impressive. It's a grand masterpiece. "The Wandering Earth" could be released because it could be filmed, but "The Three-Body Problem" has been delayed for years — that's just one word: difficult.
Currently, I give it 8 out of 10. It stays true to the original work, although the pacing is a bit slow. With 30 episodes in one season, it depends on how you choose to proceed.
At this rate, it would take a hundred episodes for three seasons...
The Three-Body Problem" contains a significant amount of information. What I see is a balance, a balance under the doctrine of the mean, a balance under Taoist philosophy.
It strongly resembles China — flourishing, and the Eight Directions come to celebrate; failing, and there are various forms of oppression. Whenever things get tough, there is always hidden assistance, whether it's a friend from afar, a hero, or even an incompetent ally from the enemy side.
Fate, destiny...
After watching the first four episodes, I must say as a fan of the original work, I'm thrilled! The Three-Body Problem novel contains so much theoretical knowledge, imagination from the Trisolarans themselves, and numerous iconic scenes.
If there were too many changes in the adaptation, it could easily ruin the essence of the original. Therefore, the first priority in filming this series was to stay true to the source material, and the TV adaptation has achieved a remarkably high level of fidelity.
However, blindly adhering to the original without any creative input would lack substance. From what I've seen so far, the handling of certain scenes and other improvements have been quite impressive.
I'm now watching the adaptation of The Dark Forest and eagerly anticipating the upcoming Three-Body Problem game! I initially thought that the pinnacle of Three-Body for me had reached its end, but now it seems there is still hope!
Actually, up to this point, the TV series has done a remarkable job in staying true to the original work. Many lines of dialogue are directly lifted from the book. However, perhaps due to differences in expression, there are some variations in the way the words are delivered by the actors, but it doesn't significantly impact the development of the plot.
It's evident that the director, screenwriters, and production team have put a lot of thought into it. This not only reflects their dedication to faithfully adapting the source material but also showcases significant breakthroughs in terms of artistic expression.
It could be that our technology has advanced, allowing for a better grasp of science fiction themes. As a fan of the original work, I am satisfied overall, and I hope that the upcoming episodes will bring us even more surprises.
