Episode 1 recap: Lian Man Er refuses the marriage proposal.

Lian Man Er woke up and was surprised to find herself tied up with someone holding a spirit tablet. Lian Man Er realized that she was actually going to be sacrificed. She struggled but couldn't break free and could only watch as someone lit the fire.Lian Man Er opened her eyes and felt that there was something seriously wrong with this game. It wasn't just a game, but a death sentence. The staff quickly explained that it was all part of the game, and as the first group of testers, they were supposed to continuously experience the game and provide feedback for its improvement, with the chance of receiving a bonus. Lian Man Er asked if they could lower the level of pain, and the staff agreed.

Lian Man Er received a call from her mother, who asked why she called. Lian Man Er explained that she didn't have enough money for living expenses. Her mother refused to give her any, saying that Lian Man Er was already in her sophomore year, and her father and mother had divorced. Her mother had already given her a lot of money over the years and had done enough. Her mother had her own financial obligations and suggested that Lian Man Er ask her father for money.

Lian Man Er entered the game again. Her grandmother noticed that an egg was missing and started scolding everyone, suspecting that Lian Man Er's mother had eaten it. Lian Man Er's mother quickly denied it, but her grandmother became furious, accusing Lian Man Er's mother of talking back.

Lian Man Er's aunt watched the commotion and suggested that her mother should just admit if she ate the egg. Lian Man Er pointed out the egg residue on her aunt's clothes, which triggered her grandmother to chase after her aunt in order to beat her. Lian Man Er then went to the field nearby and found the scenery exceptionally beautiful, feeling regretful that she couldn't take photos and share them on social media.

Lian Man Er received a treasure chest with a task inside, instructing her to earn one thousand taels. Lian Man Er showed the box to her younger brother, Xiao Qi, and realized that only she could see this task.

Lian Man Er returned home and asked her cousin, Lian Ye Er, why their family was so poor. Lian Ye Er explained that their eldest uncle was a scholar, so all the money in the family was given to him in the hopes that he could become an official and lead them to a better life. Additionally, the annual taxes had become heavier over the years, leaving very little money after paying them. Lian Ye Er noticed their grandmother opening the cabinet, which was a rare occurrence and usually meant there were good things inside.

Their grandmother took out a piece of meat from a jar, and everyone, including Lian Man Er's aunt, gathered around, craving the meat. Lian Hua Er, the daughter of their eldest uncle who had returned from the city, was worried that Lian Man Er wouldn't agree to the marriage proposal. But their aunt reassured her that the third son's wife had already agreed to it, and Lian Man Er had no choice but to accept. Once Lian Man Er married into the Sun family, she would receive 500 taels of silver.

When their eldest uncle's family returned from the city and announced the marriage proposal, Lian Man Er was shocked to learn that she was going to marry into the Sun family. She understood that it meant she would be sacrificed. However, everyone else thought it was a good match, especially Lian Man Er's aunt, who kept persuading her. Lian Man Er even mentioned wanting to jump into a well, but in the midst of the argument, she accidentally fell in. Fortunately, her mother grabbed her tightly and pulled her back up, leaving her mother extremely frightened.

Lian Man Er was locked in the firewood room, but her mother secretly released her in the middle of the night, urging her to run away. Shen Nuo was being chased and shot with a poisoned arrow, causing him to faint in the woods. Lian Man Er found Shen Nuo, performed CPR on him, and when he regained consciousness, he mistakenly believed that Lian Man Er was trying to kill him and grabbed her by the neck.

Lian Man Er struggled to explain that she had saved Shen Nuo's life, and he eventually released her. She told Shen Nuo about her impending sacrifice and asked if he had any solutions. Shen Nuo mentioned that according to the law, the main offender would be executed, while the accomplices would be exiled for three thousand li.

Lian Man Er admitted that she had no evidence, but both she and Shen Nuo believed they could help each other.
