Episode 8 recap: The Lian family is embroiled in a dispute over the division of assets.

Lian Man Er pretended to be the deceased grandmother, imitating her perfectly. Lian Man Er offered the shopkeeper some garlic-flavored peanuts, and the shopkeeper wanted to buy their peanuts. Lian Man Er was thrilled because she had now earned a deposit and had capital to expand and strengthen her business.

Lian Man Er's grandmother searched Lian Man Er and Shen Nuo when they returned but couldn't find any money. Wang You Heng came to reexamine Lian Man Er's mother, and it turned out that Lian Man Er had given the money to Wang You Heng, asking him to bring it over.

Wang You Heng asked Lian Man Er what they would do in the future, as he couldn't keep coming to see the doctor indefinitely. Shen Nuo said that Wang You Heng would have to keep coming, as she had a plan that would make Lian Man Er let go. They acted together, with each of them saying their lines, portraying Lian Man Er's mother's illness as extremely severe. They claimed that they had already spent eighty taels of silver and that she might have to take medication for the rest of her life.

Lian Man Er deliberately mentioned that they were family and that they should help each other. She suggested selling the house and land if necessary. Lian Man Er's grandmother overheard this and felt very upset. In the middle of the night, Lian Man Er's grandmother claimed to be sick, and everyone rushed over.

Lian Man Er pulled her father aside and told him to do as she said. Her father thought that Wang You Heng was a skilled doctor and suggested inviting him to treat his mother, but they still hadn't given the previous eighty taels of silver to Wang You Heng. Lian Man Er's grandmother became anxious upon hearing this, but her father thought they could borrow money from Uncle Jin. However, Lian Man Er's grandmother disagreed and insisted on dividing the house and making them repay the eighty taels on their own.

Lian Man Er's grandfather disagreed and stated that he was still alive, forbidding anyone to mention dividing the family. Lian Man Er's grandmother and grandfather began to argue, causing chaos and commotion.

Lian Man Er's uncle went home and told his wife about the situation. His wife also agreed to divide the family. Unexpectedly, Lian Man Er's mother fell seriously ill and it was uncertain how much money would be needed for future medical expenses. It seemed like an endless pit, and they couldn't continue like this. The uncle believed that their eldest brother's family would definitely be unable to remain calm and suggested that they let them propose the division.

Lian Man Er discussed this matter with Shen Nuo, who expressed that their grandfather seemed fair but was actually biased towards the eldest and second eldest families. Eventually, this family would be divided. The next day, the uncle's wife pretended to be pregnant and claimed that she couldn't do any work. She said that if she lost the baby, it would be fine, but if she became a burden due to pregnancy, the entire family would suffer.

The uncle said he wouldn't go either, as his elder brother only worked for a day and then stopped, and the third brother stayed at home to take care of his wife without doing any work. The third brother explained that his wife was in her postpartum recovery period, so he couldn't leave. Lian Man Er's grandfather understood their intentions, that they wanted to divide the family, but as long as he was still alive, it would absolutely not happen. Meanwhile, it started raining heavily, and Lian Man Er's grandfather and father were working in the fields. Shen Nuo hurriedly came to help.

Shen Nuo advised Lian Man Er's grandfather to make a decision early, as there might be more troubles if they delayed. Lian Man Er's grandfather wanted Lian Man Er's father to divorce his wife. Lian Man Er's grandmother approached Lian Man Er's father and told him about this, saying that he had the same intention in the past. Lian Man Er's father could have passed the civil service exam and become an official if he hadn't accidentally broken his leg while trying to save Lian Man Er's mother.

Lian Man Er's grandmother urged Lian Man Er's father to quickly get rid of this "unlucky star." She said that once his elder brother became an official, it would be easy for him to find another wife. Lian Man Er's father remained silent. Lian Man Er returned and told her mother about this, saying that if her father dared to suggest divorcing his wife, she would immediately leave with them.

Lian Man Er's father proposed the idea of dividing the family, stating that he would never abandon his wife, the breadwinner, and wouldn't let everyone fill the financial hole together. Therefore, it would be better to divide the family.
