Episode 8 recap: The Cost of Being a Newcomer
Lou Ming Ye announced the disciplinary action against Yu Qi Lei inside the special operations station because of the incident of opening the wrong door. Lin Lu Xiao, who witnessed Lou Ming Ye's constant disciplinary actions without understanding their work, became particularly angry. Lin Lu Xiao argued with Lou Ming Ye, blaming him for only focusing on punishments and not helping to solve problems. Lin Lu Xiao believed that this approach would leave the frontline firefighters at a loss.
Lou Ming Ye criticized Lin Lu Xiao, pointing out that even drunks could cause problems. They had already coordinated with the property management to address the issue. Lou Ming Ye advised Lin Lu Xiao not to always rush to protect his subordinates after incidents occurred, but instead pay attention to the problems within the station. Shao Yi Jiu and Qin Shi Quan, who made mistakes, bowed their heads in front of their senior colleagues and continuously apologized. However, they couldn't take responsibility because they didn't have the money to compensate the homeowner.
Jiang Ge wanted to pay for the damages caused by Shao Yi Jiu, but the firefighters in the special operations station disagreed. They believed it was an internal matter and didn't want the program team to be responsible. The firefighters pooled their money to compensate for the damages. Lin Lu Xiao called Shao Yi Jiu and the others to the honor room and shared stories of their ancestors' sacrifices, emphasizing the importance of ensuring their own safety before solving other people's problems during emergency responses.
Liu Ru Yi and Jiang Ge had an accidental injury while competing in the gym, so they had to go to the medical room for treatment. Doctor Xia Wan happened to pass by the medical room and noticed someone seeking medical attention. She casually asked, but Liu Ru Yi, afraid of being recognized by Xia Wan, hid behind a curtain and changed his voice, pretending to be Lei Da Gang. After finishing the treatment and coming out, Liu Ru Yi accidentally bumped into Xia Wan, who was waiting at the door, and had to confess his true identity.
Nan Chu received the first fundraising amount and immediately took it back to the Dream Dance Society, allowing them to practice dance properly. Since Xi Gu had no place to live and no money to rent a house, Nan Chu let Xi Gu temporarily stay at the Dream Dance Society, and in return, Xi Gu would provide their styling services to offset the rent. Lin Qi's company arranged a small performance for him, and he happily discussed it with Nan Chu, sharing their respective situations.
Lin Qi was mentally prepared, knowing that the beginning is always difficult. However, he didn't expect there would be other arrangements for the performance. Lin Qi didn't sell a single ticket for his show, and the only five tickets sold were bought by Lin Qi himself. As a result, the company requested that Lin Qi only perform in the first half, leaving the second half for the sponsor's son.
Lin Qi didn't want to cooperate with the company's arrangement, but he couldn't repay the expenses the company had incurred on him. So he reluctantly agreed to the company's request. Nan Chu and Lin Lu Xiao came to listen to Lin Qi's performance, but there were people in the audience who deliberately booed and showed disdain for Lin Qi's performance, wanting to drive him off the stage early. Lin Lu Xiao helped Lin Qi resolve the issue by talking to the troublemakers, and they stopped causing a disturbance.
After the performance, Lin Qi felt unhappy, thinking that he was just filling the stage and that no one appreciated his performance. Nan Chu comforted Lin Qi, explaining that they were there to support him and that they listened attentively. After comforting Lin Qi, Nan Chu asked him to play a piece he composed himself to see if it could be used by their Dream Dance Society.
When Nan Chu mentioned it, Lin Qi's spirits soared again. Taking advantage of the fact that the stage audio hadn't been turned off yet, he immediately went on to perform another piece. While Lin Qi played the violin, Nan Chu danced on stage with him. It was the first time Lin Lu Xiao saw Nan Chu dance, and he gained a new understanding of her. On their way back, Nan Chu talked to Lin Lu Xiao about Lin Qi and also mentioned their Dream Dance Society. Their friendship deepened even further.
While the Special Operations Station was conducting exercises, Liu Ru Yi and the others were discussing the upcoming inspection by a leader. They wanted to preserve their strength and train once the leader arrived. However, Lin Lu Xiao didn't agree. After Shao Yi Jiu and Qin Shi Quan, the new recruits, finished their practice, Jiang Ge and the others were eager to participate in the training. They wanted to join in, regardless of how dangerous Lin Lu Xiao said it was. Lin Lu Xiao explained that their training simulated real fire scenes and was strictly limited to professional firefighters.
Despite Lin Lu Xiao's warnings, Jiang Ge and the others were determined and didn't want to give up on participating in the training. When they persisted, Lin Lu Xiao told them to first run three kilometers and then do two hundred push-ups, all within twenty minutes, before he would let them enter the fire site. Meng Guo Hong arrived at the scene and heard their request. He thought it would be worth letting them have a try, so he discussed the matter with Lin Lu Xiao.
After explaining the situation to Meng Guo Hong, Lin Lu Xiao agreed to let Jiang Ge and the others have a chance and decided to arrange them into pairs for training.
Why can't firefighters go home every day after work? I felt a bit emotional when I saw the scene of them video chatting with the little girl. Later on, it was mentioned that they would have their schedules changed, ensuring they can go home once a month...
One has already pledged their allegiance to the nation, making it difficult to make another commitment. Looking at the incident at the steamed bun shop from a different perspective, it also highlights the need for fathers and husbands to pay more attention to their families.
I've always known that being a firefighter is a dangerous and challenging job, but honestly, my understanding of it was superficial. I knew that many people sacrifice their lives, but after watching this film, I have gained a deeper understanding of the hardships faced by firefighters.
They face difficulties and dangers while safeguarding us, ordinary people, and they act as a protective umbrella for our lives. I have also learned a lot about fire safety and the precautions we should take in our daily lives.
I am grateful to the director and actors for their sincere portrayal and to the firefighters who give everything for our safety. Thank you all for your hard work!
