Episode 4 recap: The food festival design caught the attention of the Manchu believers.
The governor's daughter, Ruoyun, went to Qingfeng Pavilion and saw that it was undergoing renovations. She said that she had connections with the chairman, Duan, so that Gu Qingqiao could give her a reasonable price. Gu Qingqiao told her that she needed to recharge 3,000 taels first. After Ruoyun recharged, she left and became excited with her maid about being able to dine with Duan Yu at the food festival.
After leaving, Ruoyun went to buy a book. Her favorite book was written by Mr. Si, who turned out to be Xing Si. Coincidentally, Xing Si was delivering the new sequel that the young master had fallen in love with. Xing Si was afraid of being discovered, so he accidentally knocked over a bookshelf and mixed his own manuscript in with the others. Ruoyun saw it and bought it. Xing Si was delighted by Ruoyun, but Ruoyun said her heart only belonged to Duan Yu. The shopkeeper took the money from Xing Si, who said he had lost his manuscript, surprising the shopkeeper. Xing Si quietly said it was his heart that he had lost.
Xing Si proposed that he could ask Gu Niang for her eight characters to propose marriage, and also discreetly investigate whether Gu Niang was truly a reverse star. Gu Xingmi was a bit saddened to see Gu Qingqiao's eight characters taken. Gu Qingqiao comforted him and told him not to worry about the food festival.
Gu Qingqiao personally embroidered a small pouch for Duan Yu, although it was a bit ugly since it was her first time and her fingers were full of needle pricks. Xing Si told Duan Yu about this, saying that Gu Niang didn't seem like a bad person, and he hoped she wasn't a reverse star. Duan Yu instructed his subordinates to keep a close eye on Gu Qingqiao during the food festival, and to immediately apprehend her if anything seemed amiss.
On the day of the food festival, when Ruo Yun followed Shao Yi to Qingfeng Tower, Duan Yu saw them and quickly arranged for someone to send Shao Yi back to the academy, and had Xing Si protect Ruo Yun. Xing Si was even bitten by Ruo Yun while protecting her. Gu Qingqiao was in the kitchen helping to roast meat. Mantuo faction leader found out that the Right Dharma Protector was planning to defect to the authorities at the food festival, so they infiltrated the event to try to capture the Right Dharma Protector and retrieve the treasures. Duan Yu had someone impersonate the Right Dharma Protector, and the county magistrate was impressed by how realistic the impersonation was. The Mantuo faction members fell for the trick and realized they had been duped, so they started fighting. Eventually, all the Mantuo faction members were captured, except one who escaped to the back kitchen. Luckily, a skilled chef fought with him and finally managed to incapacitate him with some powder. But then the man suddenly took Ruo Yun hostage, demanding Duan Yu to let him go. Seizing the opportunity, Gu Qingqiao hit him with a lamb leg, allowing Ruo Yun to escape. However, the man escaped as well after throwing more powder.
Back at the Gu residence, Gu Qingqiao urgently called out to Lu Zisheng, because Lu had previously promised to return her electronic watch if they captured any Mantuo members. Lu kept his promise and gave the watch back, but warned Gu Qingqiao that he would eventually need to take it back, since she couldn't have a normal life if she kept it. Gu Qingqiao refused to hand it over, saying it was now hers. Lu also told her to be wary of her fiancé Duan Yu, but Gu Qingqiao just wanted him to leave.
Unknown to them, Duan Yu had already discovered Lu Zisheng's whereabouts and had ambushed them at the Gu residence. Duan Yu had the powerful Qilin Bow and shot Gu Qingqiao's arm. Seeing no other choice, Gu Qingqiao had Lu Zisheng pretend to take her hostage, so Duan Yu would let them go. To make it more convincing, Lu Zisheng even cut Gu Qingqiao's arm before leaving. After they left, Gu Qingqiao fainted.
