Episode 18 recap: Ma Kui and Wang Xin teamed up to apprehend a drug dealer.
When Wang Xin learned that Xiao Hu had caused Ma Kui to get injured without receiving any scolding from Ma Kui, he was very surprised. Wang Xin was puzzled by Ma Kui's differential treatment towards him until he found out that Ma Kui often praised Wang Xin in front of Xiao Hu, which seemed unbelievable to him.
Lao Xia Zi was begging on the train and happened to pass by Ma Kui. He recognized Ma Kui by his scent but did not expose his identity. Ma Kui noticed Lao Xia Zi hiding alone in a corner and approached him for a chat, only to find out that Lao Xia Zi had recognized him from a distance just by his footsteps.
Lao Xia Zi had very keen ears and nose, and Ma Kui admired him for that. Coincidentally, there was a blind person in the area where the train passed, so Ma Kui grabbed some food from the dining car and threw it to the blind person. Ma Kui and Wang Xin reached their destination and checked into a hotel. Only then did Ma Kui ask Wang Xin to open the bag he had prepared, intending to cook noodles.
Ma Kui used an electric stove to cook the noodles, but unexpectedly, the circuit breaker tripped, and the owner noticed that they were using an electric stove. Consequently, the owner confiscated the stove. Wang Xin got angry at the owner's smug attitude and almost got into an argument, but Ma Kui knew they had a mission and couldn't afford to cause trouble, so he politely agreed to hand over the stove.
Without the stove, Ma Kui and Wang Xin didn't have dinner and couldn't afford to eat out. Ma Kui had to use hot water to dissolve the seasonings and then put the raw noodles into the hot water to make do with a meal. After dinner, Ma Kui undressed and went to sleep, while Wang Xin couldn't sleep because the blanket had a smell and seemed to have something written on it.
Early the next morning, Wang Xin was bitten by fleas in the blanket and realized the purpose behind Ma Kui undressing before sleep. Ma Kui and Wang Xin went to find witnesses and asked them about the suspect's situation. Wang Xin even drew a sketch of the suspect's appearance. After completing the sketch, Wang Xin went to the police station in Beiling Village to inquire and learned that the suspect had taken a train from Sanshan Town. They headed to the train station to wait for the suspect, who was missing one finger.
Ma Kui and Wang Xin found the suspect and bought tickets together, intending to track him. However, the suspect noticed that he was being followed. He changed seats with someone else and then, taking advantage of the excuse to sunbathe, opened the window next to the train and escaped while Wang Xin and Ma Kui were not paying attention.
Wang Xin and Ma Kui chased after the suspect without hesitation. Finally, near the entrance of a farmer's house, they discovered the suspect's footprints and were ready to break in and capture him.
The suspect hid at the entrance, spotted Ma Kui's figure outside the door, and at that moment, Wang Xin was preparing to jump over the fence to take a look but was caught by the suspect. The suspect waited for Wang Xin to stick his head in, then struck him on the head with a gun. However, Ma Kui, who had noticed the figure behind the door, understood the suspect's intention and quickly intervened to stop Wang Xin. Just as Ma Kui managed to halt Wang Xin, the homeowner returned, presuming that they were thieves attempting to break into their house. The homeowner shouted loudly and threatened to attack them with a shovel.
Ma Kui explained their purpose for being there, but the suspect took advantage of the situation and hid inside a room where a child happened to be present. The suspect took the child hostage. With the suspect having a hostage, Ma Kui had to come up with an alternative plan to save the hostage. He asked the homeowner to describe the layout of the house in detail as he prepared to find a way to control the suspect.
Wang Xin was worried about Ma Kui's safety and decided to enter the house on his behalf. Meanwhile, Ma Kui was concerned that something might go wrong with Wang Xin, so he went through the front door to negotiate with the suspect, diverting the suspect's attention. While Wang Xin was negotiating with the suspect, he entered the room, but before he could take any action, the suspect noticed Wang Xin's presence through a mirror and immediately fired a shot at him.
Wang Xin reacted swiftly and managed to dodge the suspect's shot. When the suspect lunged at him, Wang Xin fired a shot, saving the hostage. Upon hearing the gunshot, Ma Kui rushed into the room to assess the situation. He only saw blood on the floor and a gun but couldn't find Wang Xin, which filled him with fear, worried that something had happened to Wang Xin.
As Ma Kui entered the room, he saw the suspect lying on the ground, which relieved his anxiety. However, it was Wang Xin's first experience in a life-or-death struggle with a criminal, and he was particularly shaken. He sat there motionless for a while. After Wang Xin regained his composure, he made a phone call to Ma Yan because at that moment, he missed Ma Yan terribly and feared that he might never see her again.
After chatting with Ma Yan and resolving the situation in Beiling Village, Wang Xin returned with Ma Kui. However, unexpectedly, they encountered Xiao Wen Zhou, a person who snatched steamed buns, on the train. Xiao Wen Zhou's business had failed, and he had spent all his money on a train ticket. He was starving and resorted to stealing steamed buns.
Wang Xin and Ma Kui came across Xiao Wen Zhou and discreetly tried to understand the situation. Wang Xin even bought food for Xiao Wen Zhou, allowing him to have a hearty meal. Wang Xin gave Xiao Wen Zhou a lot of food and even gave him all the money he had. Xiao Wen Zhou had no way to repay their kindness and could only give his only pair of sunglasses to Wang Xin.
After Wang Xin ran out of money, Ma Kui proudly flaunted his own money in front of Wang Xin and stated that from now on, they would each pay for their own meals, deliberately teasing Wang Xin.
