Episode 2 recap: Ma Kui taught Wang Xin by word and deed.

Ma Kui was wrongfully imprisoned for ten years. Ma Yan was cold towards him and even forbade him from going to the store. Ma Kui warned her not to provoke those drunkards to avoid trouble. Wang Su Fang also chimed in, but Ma Yan didn't want to listen and angrily retreated to her own room. Wang Su Fang advised Ma Kui not to be angry with Ma Yan and to give her more time. Wang Su Fang, who was emotionally agitated, started coughing uncontrollably and hurriedly went to the inner room to take medicine. Ma Kui saw a large box of medicine and felt guilty towards Wang Su Fang. Wang Su Fang felt that she owed Ma Yan a lot because of her poor health, which caused Ma Yan to take on work shifts early and miss the opportunity to go to college.

Ma Kui encouraged Ma Yan to study hard and prepare for college entrance exams. Since Ma Yan didn't attend high school, she lacked confidence in taking the exams. She secretly read "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes." Ma Kui discovered that the book was borrowed from the library by Wang Xin, so he took it away. The next day, Wang Xin arrived at work a bit late and received a rebuke from Ma Kui. Ma Kui returned the book to Wang Xin and reminded him not to disturb Ma Yan's exam preparation.

Lao Xia Zi was a regular passenger on the train from Ningyang to Haicheng. He would always freeload on food and drinks during the journey, and the train attendants and police were used to it. They often brought him food and drinks, and Lao Xia Zi enjoyed this kind of life. When Wang Xin and Ma Kui arrived, they asked Lao Xia Zi to buy a ticket, but he adamantly refused. When the train policeman, Lu Hong Xing, heard about it, he brought eggs for Lao Xia Zi. Ma Kui paid for Lao Xia Zi's ticket, and through Lu Hong Xing, they learned about Lao Xia Zi's story.

Lao Xia Zi's daughter was abducted, so he searched for her on the train, but he found no leads. Eventually, his eyes became blinded from crying, but he refused to give up and continued searching for his daughter on the train. Wang Xin strongly disapproved of Ma Kui's actions, but Ma Kui didn't think too much about it and just wanted to help Lao Xia Zi. Wang Xin aspired to become a detective and noticed Ma Kui's exceptional skills. He urged Ma Kui to continue being a detective, but Ma Kui didn't respond and quickly found an excuse to leave.

A passenger discovered that ten yuan he had in his pocket had gone missing, so he sought help from Ma Kui. Ma Kui and Wang Xin went to his compartment to investigate. Ma Kui noticed that a passenger across from them appeared nervous, so he called him to the dining car and encouraged him to identify the thief. The man claimed to know nothing, but Ma Kui explained the stakes to him, and eventually, he described the physical characteristics of the thief in detail.

Wang Xin greatly admired Ma Kui and was curious about how he could tell that the person was an eyewitness. Ma Kui didn't want to explain too much and split up with Wang Xin to investigate the suspects in different compartments.

Wang Xin completed his search of the compartment he was responsible for but did not find any suspicious individuals. Ma Kui didn't believe him and decided to recheck. Soon, he identified a suspect and called him to the dining car. Wang Xin brought the eyewitness to identify the suspect, and he immediately recognized him as the thief.

Wang Xin and Ma Kui worked together to subdue the thief and found a substantial amount of money on him. After recording the suspect's statement, Wang Xin humbly sought advice from Ma Kui. Ma Kui briefly shared his experience and couldn't resist mocking Wang Xin, leaving him speechless. Wang Xin went home and vented his frustrations to Wang Yong Ge, who kindly advised him not to provoke Ma Kui and hinted at some unresolved issues between Wang Yong Ge and Ma Kui. However, Wang Yong Ge avoided giving a direct answer.

The rooster from Captain Wu Zhang Gui's house entered the room and even jumped on the dining table. Wang Xin shooed it away but faced mockery from Captain Wu's wife. Wang Xin lived in the railway dormitory and had harmonious relations with his neighbors. Lu Hong Xing's wife made a new dress for Yao Yu Ling, and it fit her perfectly. However, Yao Yu Ling suddenly fainted in the yard. Doctor Shen Xiu Ping arrived and diagnosed her with low blood sugar. They hurriedly found some sugar for her and asked Cai Xiao Nian to request leave for Lu Hong Xing.

Niu Da Li searched for sugar for Yao Yu Ling, and Wang Xin brought out his cherished Big White Rabbit milk candies. After eating the candy, Yao Yu Ling felt much better. Shen Xiu Ping learned that Yao Yu Ling had exchanged ration coupons for cloth tickets to buy many beautiful fabrics for her appearance and couldn't help but complain to her.

Wang Xin, Niu Da Li, Yao Yu Ling, and Cai Xiao Nian went on duty together. There were unusually many passengers that day, and Wang Xin helped passengers enter through the windows. In the dining car, Cai Xiao Nian vividly recounted embarrassing stories about Wang Xin, making everyone burst into laughter. Wang Xin heard it clearly from outside the door, and Ma Kui deliberately laughed loudly and called him in to mock him. Wang Xin felt deeply embarrassed and went home to pour out his grievances to Wang Yong Ge, who advised him not to take it to heart.

That night, Wang Yong Ge bought two bottles of alcohol to visit Ma Kui, but Ma Kui remained indifferent to him.
