Episode 33 recap: Ma Yan is pregnant and is pressuring Ma Kui to marry her.

After Peng Yong Li's wedding, she went to question Ma Kui about why Peng Ming Jie was absent from her wedding. Ma Kui confessed to Peng Yong Li about Peng Ming Jie's bribery and explained that he personally took Peng Ming Jie to surrender. This left Peng Yong Li unable to understand.

Peng Yong Li quickly bid farewell to Ma Kui, using her grandmother's ill health as an excuse, and went to Ha City. Ma Kui didn't want to explain much and gave Peng Yong Li some money to help her leave. Lao Xia Zi started to emit an odor from his body, and Ma Kui persuaded him to take a bath, but Lao Xia Zi refused because there was nowhere for a person like him to bathe.

Ma Kui understood Lao Xia Zi's concerns and brought him to his own home, intending to personally help Lao Xia Zi take a bath. Upon arriving at the place and learning that it was Ma Kui's home, Lao Xia Zi felt guilty. After Ma Kui's repeated requests, he reluctantly agreed to take a bath.

Ma Kui helped Lao Xia Zi take a bath and prepared a table of food for him. He invited Lao Xia Zi to eat and drink well, and then they exchanged names to get to know each other. Ma Kui planned to wait until Lao Xia Zi was full before sending him off to catch the train. Jia Jin Long found out that an old man from a village was getting married to a young girl who was only twenty years old. This was likely related to the trafficking of female college students, so he immediately informed Ma Kui and Wang Xin to rescue the person.

Ma Kui and Wang Xin arrived in time with the police and successfully rescued the abducted female college student, although she had already been severely tortured. After handling the case, Ma Kui and Wang Xin asked Jia Jin Long for information about the drug traffickers. Jia Jin Long claimed that his wife didn't want him to meddle in such matters, but he would secretly inquire for Wang Xin and let him know once he had any information.

Ma Kui picked up Shen Xiu Ping after work, and Liu Ming once again harassed Shen Xiu Ping. He firmly stated that he was determined to marry Shen Xiu Ping and couldn't let her go no matter what.

In order to make Liu Ming give up, Ma Kui had to claim that Shen Xiu Ping was his wife and advised Liu Ming not to pursue her. Liu Ming questioned Ma Kui's words because he had inquired about Shen Xiu Ping's situation. However, both Shen Xiu Ping and Ma Kui insisted on their relationship, leaving Liu Ming helpless, so he had to leave.

After Liu Ming left, Ma Kui didn't let go of Shen Xiu Ping's hand. He had already made up his mind about her, but he didn't know how to express it. Ma Kui asked Shen Xiu Ping out for a meal, but they beat around the bush and didn't know how to bring up the topic of being together. Finally, Shen Xiu Ping spoke up about her true feelings first.

Shen Xiu Ping confessed that she appreciates Ma Kui as a person and has felt warm and happy during the years they've spent together. She also wants to become a part of Ma Kui's family, but she can't bring herself to express her feelings. After drinking some alcohol, Shen Xiu Ping finally opened up and told Ma Kui about her situation, explaining that being with Ma Kui might affect him.

Upon hearing Shen Xiu Ping's words, Ma Kui also expressed his stance, assuring her that whatever she mentioned is not a problem for him, and he will protect her no matter what. However, Shen Xiu Ping still had concerns, so Ma Kui suggested that they inform the neighbors in the courtyard first, but Shen Xiu Ping didn't agree.

When Ma Kui returned home and intended to discuss Shen Xiu Ping's situation with Ma Yan, he was surprised to find Ma Yan feeling nauseous and unable to speak. Ma Yan mentioned that she might be pregnant, but Ma Kui didn't believe her and thought she was trying to deceive him.

Ma Kui didn't believe Ma Yan, and she didn't provide further details, which made Ma Kui doubtful. He discreetly asked Ma Jian for information. After inquiring, Ma Kui noticed that Ma Yan seemed to indeed be pregnant. He was left with no choice but to confront Wang Xin and forcefully demand answers, even feeling the urge to harm him.

When Ma Yan returned home, she showed Ma Kui the hospital report, indicating her pregnancy and leaving the decision of what to do up to him. Ma Kui still didn't trust the report and insisted on taking Ma Yan to the hospital for further examination. However, Ma Yan prepared to go to the hospital, wearing a scarf and getting ready, which infuriated Ma Kui.

Just as Ma Kui was about to leave, Wang Xin arrived to protect Ma Yan, displaying a strong determination to stand by her side. Ma Kui found himself at a loss and had no choice but to investigate the matter at the hospital alone. He discussed the report with Shen Xiu Ping, who clarified that she wasn't involved in creating the report and advised Ma Kui to stop intervening. However, Ma Kui remained unyielding.

After returning home, Ma Kui learned that Ma Yan had gone to Wang Xin's house, so he immediately went there to confront them. He drove Wang Xin and Ma Yan out of the house and wanted to have a private conversation with Wang Yong Ge. Ma Kui believed that the idea of turning cooked rice into rice cakes (meaning to act upon something irreversible) came from Wang Yong Ge, so he wanted to teach him a lesson.

Wang Yong Ge tried to persuade Ma Kui not to interfere with young people's decisions, but Ma Kui refused. He felt sorry for Ma Yan, who had been without a father for ten years, and he resented Wang Yong Ge for being the reason why Ma Yan didn't have a father. Therefore, he firmly disagreed with Ma Yan marrying into the Wang family.
