Episode 38 recap: Ma Kui discovered that Jia Jin Long was a drug dealer.
Jia Jin Long came to pick up Yao Yu Ling, and Yao Yu Ling called Wang Xin and Ma Kui to get in the car with them. That's when they found out that Yao Yu Ling and Jia Jin Long were married and had a son.Ma Kui and Wang Xin escorted Liu Gui Ying back to Ningyang. Lao Xia Zi recognized Liu Gui Ying's scent as the human trafficker who had kidnapped his daughter years ago. Lao Xia Zi desperately asked about the whereabouts of his daughter, and Liu Gui Ying confessed that there were police there the day he left the daughter at the train station. Lao Xia Zi then fainted from the shock.
It was Chinese New Year's Eve. Ma Yan bought new clothes for Wang Yong Ge, who asked Ma Yan to invite Ma Kui and Ma Jian over for the New Year's Eve dinner. At the same time, Ma Kui and Ma Jian were making dumplings together, and Ma Jian asked Ma Kui to invite Shen Xiu Ping to join them for the New Year's celebration, but Ma Kui felt it would be inappropriate to push her.

The dealer had revealed that his supplier was in Ha City. Wang Xin was worried the dealer would be silenced like Bao Jia Shun, but Captain Gu was concerned about scaring off the supplier and wanted to observe the situation.
Ma Kui and Wang Xin went to grab a meal, and ran into Jia Jin Long, who was there to pick up Yao Yu Ling. They then realized that Yao Yu Ling and Jia Jin Long were actually a couple with a son. Jia Jin Long claimed he fell for Yao Yu Ling at first sight, and Yao Yu Ling had hidden their relationship to avoid gossip.
Ma Kui realized he had forgotten some documents, so he asked Jia Jin Long for a ride back to the police station. But all the officers had gone home for the New Year, so Ma Kui's trip was in vain. Jia Jin Long then invited Ma Kui and Wang Xin to drink at his KTV.
Jia Jin Long held a banquet to entertain Wang Xin and Ma Kui, and also invited a few of his brothers to join them. Ma Kui and the others drank freely, and soon became quite intoxicated. Wang Xin noticed that the companions brought by Jia Jin Long all had tattoos. Jia Jin Long grew curious and inquired about their mission, and despite Wang Xin's attempts to stop him, Ma Kui revealed the progress of the case, intentionally disclosing that the drug dealers were at the People's Hospital. Ma Kui discreetly signaled to Wang Xin, who then made a phone call under the pretext of stepping outside.
After the drinking, Jia Jin Long sent Wang Xin and Ma Kui back to the hotel. Ma Kui confirmed from the window that Jia Jin Long had left, and then told him the whole story. He had noticed a certain scent on Jia Jin Long's car as soon as he got in, and the same scent on Hou San Jin and Bao Jia Shun, as well as the companions Jia Jin Long had brought. Ma Kui suspected Jia Jin Long's involvement in the drug trafficking case, and signaled to Wang Xin to go make a call to verify the information.
Jia Jin Long sent people to the People's Hospital to eliminate the witnesses, but they were arrested by the police, with two managing to escape. Captain Gu immediately called Wang Xin and Ma Kui to come, and they rushed to the nightclub. Wang Xin had Yao Yu Ling call Jia Jin Long, but no one answered.
The detectives brought Yao Yu Ling back for questioning, and Captain Gu sent people to search Jia Jin Long's hideouts, but found no trace of him. Jia Jin Long drove with two of his men to the train station and boarded a train to Ningshuang, disguising themselves.
Wang Xin and Ma Kui also boarded that train, and carefully searched the carriages, eventually locating Jia Jin Long and his men. Jia Jin Long held a female passenger hostage, and his men also took other passengers captive. Ma Kui offered to exchange himself for the hostages, but Wang Xin volunteered instead, taking off his coat and throwing down his gun. Only then did Jia Jin Long release the girl and have his men free the other passengers.
