Episode 8 recap: Wang Su Fang didn't have much time left when she was diagnosed with lung cancer.
Upon hearing the child cry, Ma Kui felt a special attachment and immediately turned back to pick up the child. The people at the welfare home reminded Ma Kui that he couldn't leave in that condition. At that moment, Ma Yan, after hearing Wang Su Fang's story, purposely came to the welfare home to hold the child. Ma Kui and Ma Yan brought the child back home, and when Wang Su Fang saw the child, she immediately smiled and in the blink of an eye, it was already 1979.
Yao Yu Ling quietly took Wang Xin's pants, sewed the fallen button back on, and happily returned them to Wang Xin, trying to please him. However, Wang Xin said that the pants didn't belong to him. Yao Yu Ling realized that she had taken the wrong pants and scolded Niu Da Li for a few words before going home. On the train, a passenger's child was sick with a fever, and there was no place to put the child. So the passenger placed the child on two seats, which upset the passenger sitting below. Wang Xin saw the passenger complaining and noticed the child's genuine illness and difficulty, so he helped by speaking up for the passenger and resolving the situation. Ma Kui witnessed this and changed his opinion of Wang Xin.
After finishing work, Niu Da Li went home and talked to Wang Xin about Ma Yan. Just then, Yao Yu Ling caught up and engaged Wang Xin in a conversation, being particularly affectionate and warm, which made Niu Da Li very annoyed. While Niu Da Li was still angry, Ma Yan came to find Wang Xin, but Wang Xin refused to help Ma Yan with his studies and made Ma Yan leave in anger.
After Ma Yan left, Niu Da Li questioned Wang Xin about the situation, accusing him of being a rogue. Unexpectedly, Yao Yu Ling misunderstood and thought that Niu Da Li had developed feelings for Ma Yan. She wanted to help mediate, leading to a misunderstanding that Niu Da Li couldn't explain clearly.
On the train, there was a person named Xiao Wen Zhou, who carried a box of sunglasses and promoted them to the passengers, trying to sell them. The passengers saw the sunglasses as good and gathered around, but Ma Kui saw this as profiteering behavior and took Xiao Wen Zhou to see Lu Hong Xing.
Ma Kui believed that Xiao Wen Zhou was engaging in profiteering, but Wang Xin thought that it was a behavior of liberating thinking and developing the economy, unrelated to profiteering. Lu Hong Xing also agreed with Wang Xin's statement and did not label it as profiteering, so Xiao Wen Zhou was not arrested.
After Ma Kui returned home and mentioned the profiteering incident, unexpectedly, Ma Yan supported Wang Xin's viewpoint. This led to a quarrel between Ma Kui and Ma Yan, resulting in the child being awakened.
Wang Xin also told Wang Yong Ge about the situation with Xiao Wen Zhou, but Wang Yong Ge didn't support him. Instead, he advised him not to confront Ma Kui.
At Niu Da Li's home, someone left a letter. He opened the letter and read the phrase, "Once the sea turns to mulberry fields, there will be no more waves except for the clouds on the mountains." He didn't understand its meaning at all. Niu Da Li went to explain it to Wang Xin, but Wang Xin couldn't provide a clear explanation. He simply explained the literal meaning. Cai Xiao Nian happened to pass by and took a look at the letter. He suggested that it was a letter from Yao Yu Ling to Niu Da Li.
At the same time, Yao Yu Ling also received a love letter. She didn't know who wrote it but felt extremely happy. On that day, Niu Da Li received another letter. He didn't know its meaning and went to ask Wang Xin for help. However, Wang Xin was busy fetching water and refused to assist him. Niu Da Li had no choice but to carry the water himself.

While Wang Su Fang was taking care of the child at home, she suddenly coughed severely and realized she was coughing up blood. Wang Su Fang didn't want Ma Kui to know about her condition, but he insisted she get a check-up. When the doctor asked her to undergo a detailed examination, she immediately found an excuse to refuse.
Shen Xiu Ping came to check on Wang Su Fang's examination results and made it difficult for her to refuse the check-up. Unfortunately, the results were not good. Wang Su Fang secretly obtained the examination report without Ma Kui's knowledge and confirmed that she was in the late stages of lung cancer with not much time left. She didn't want to burden Ma Kui, so she asked the doctor to keep her condition a secret.
Upon learning about Wang Su Fang's condition, Shen Xiu Ping wanted to arrange for her to be hospitalized for treatment, but Wang Su Fang pleaded with her to keep it a secret from Ma Kui. Shen Xiu Ping didn't want to go along with the deception, but she sympathized with Wang Su Fang's wishes and tearfully agreed to her request.
When Ma Kui returned home from work and asked about Wang Su Fang's condition, she pretended as if nothing was wrong, claiming it was just an old ailment. She didn't want Ma Kui to worry. Ma Kui had some suspicions about Wang Su Fang's words and asked to see the test results. Wang Su Fang pretended she had given the test results to Shen Xiu Ping and accidentally left them at the hospital, temporarily concealing the truth from Ma Kui.
