Episode 12 recap: # Wei Chi Hua Pretends to Be Infatuated with Wang Kun Wu
In episode 12, the next morning, Yuan Mo hurried to Kang Yun Hai with the newly drafted trade agreement in hand. On the way, he brought up the mysterious desert deaths of the Yuan Han Jing couple. Kang Yun Hai sighed and didn’t hold back, recounting the Long Tu Qi Rebellion from sixteen years ago.
At that time, the Yuan Han Jing couple had perished at the hands of the Faceless Man while trying to protect Princess Yan Le. Kang Yun Hai speculated that Yuan Han Jing must have inadvertently offended a powerful figure in Da Yong, leading to their tragic fate, as the Faceless Man was known to take money for his services.
Yuan Mo was somewhat skeptical of this explanation. When Kang Yun Hai mentioned that he wasn’t in a hurry to return to Yan Le, Yuan Mo sensed there was more to the story and called him out on it.
It turned out that Kang Yun Hai was worried that Da Yong might try to align with neighboring countries around the desert to negotiate the ownership of the oases. If that happened, Yan Le would find itself without a foothold. This time, Kang Yun Hai truly recognized Yuan Mo's sharp mind.
Ji Ming Li and Shen Bai Lian had intended to buy colorful ribbons to celebrate Yuan Mo’s achievements but ended up mistakenly using them for An Xiu Yi instead. Wang Kun Wu immediately praised An Xiu Yi for his bravery, acknowledging that he knowingly ventured into danger.
Yuan Mo had made significant contributions, and An Yuan Dao suggested that he become Wang Kun Wu’s right-hand man, which delighted Yu De Shui.
Seizing the opportunity, An Xiu Yi asked how to handle the negotiations regarding the oases among the five desert nations. An Yuan Dao shook his head, saying that An Xiu Yi was thinking too simply. Undeterred, An Xiu Yi pulled out a detailed plan that impressed Yu De Shui.
Meanwhile, Kang Yun Hai received a secret letter from Long Tu Qi, asking him to assist the leader of the Faceless Man, known as the White-Clad Guest, in Da Yong. Ma Zhi Wen added that this White-Clad Guest was enigmatic, with no one knowing his appearance or age.
Since winning back the chessboard, A Shu felt that Yuan Mo had become noticeably brighter. He curiously asked Yuan Mo what Kang Yun Hai had revealed. Yuan Mo explained that his parents had died in the desert while trying to save the princess, but even if it hadn’t been for her, they would have acted without hesitation.
On the other hand, Yu Chi Hua’s father, E Guo Gong, was busy arranging a matchmaking event, bringing in a group of martial artists to showcase their skills and letting Bai Su Qin choose first. Yu Chi Hua had no interest in any of them and dragged Bai Su Qin away. When E Guo Gong pressed her about her future, Yu Chi Hua casually replied that she already had someone in mind.
E Guo Gong didn't believe it and sent the housekeeper to investigate.
When Yuan Mo returned home, he found Yu Chi Hua happily chatting with A Shu, mentioning that she wanted to stay for a while. Yuan Mo initially intended to refuse, but when he heard that Yu Chi Hua could access case files from the Ministry of Justice and the Supreme Court, he quickly changed his mind and agreed.
A few days later, Wang Kun Wu was chased and beaten by a group of young men on the street. It turned out they were the suitors from the Wei Chi family’s matchmaking competition, who mistakenly thought he was Yu Chi Hua's love interest. Wang Kun Wu was both amused and exasperated, while An Xiu Yi poured cold water on the situation, reminding him that he was Yu Chi Hua's childhood friend. This revelation finally dawned on Wang Kun Wu.
Yuan Mo suggested that Wang Kun Wu confess to E Guo Gong, claiming to be Yu Chi Hua's romantic interest to put an end to the matchmaking. Wang Kun Wu was reluctant but, with Yu Chi Hua promising to help find clues about the Faceless Man, he reluctantly headed to E Guo Gong's residence. After a heartfelt speech, E Guo Gong finally relented.
With her freedom regained, Yu Chi Hua hosted a celebration for her colleagues from the Four Directions Pavilion. During the feast, she revealed the mysterious actions of the White-Clad Guest, explaining how he had meticulously extended the reach of the Faceless Man to every corner of the desert over the past five years, even infiltrating the underworld and causing the deaths of several of Wang Kun Wu’s brothers. Yuan Mo firmly believed that as long as the White-Clad Guest was alive, he would eventually be exposed.
Once everyone had eaten and drunk their fill, they encountered a blind old woman searching for her son, who had been missing for days. Without hesitation, A Shu assigned the task of finding him to Yuan Mo. Meanwhile, several tenants of Ji Ming Li suddenly went missing as well, and interestingly, they were all undocumented individuals like the old woman’s son.
Rumors spread that these undocumented workers often labored in Ren Yi Fang. Shen Bai Lian used her connections to gather information about a meeting at Hong Lian Pavilion. Yuan Mo, A Shu, Wang Kun Wu, and Yu Chi Hua decided to infiltrate the gathering to investigate further. Wang Kun Wu initially intended to expose the true identity of the Red Lotus Immortal but ended up making a fool of himself instead.
