Episode 3 recap: Episode 3
In Episode 3, Yuan Mo struggles to explain the household registration issue to A Shu. Knowing A Shu's personality, he hides the contract, planning to deal with it later Just then, A Shu walks in and, seeing Yuan Mo with the document, assumes it's related to her household registration Excited, she snatches it from him, causing Yuan Mo to stutter in fear After a moment, A Shu asks about the signature, and that's when Yuan Mo realizes she doesn't understand the Danyang characters, allowing him to escape the situation for now
A Shu brings the contract along while shopping with Yu Chi Hua, mentioning her desire to rent a house in Kyoto. Yu Chi Hua offers to help by connecting her with a landlord. While they are shopping for clothes, they spot a large order and learn it’s for the governor Dou Chun, who is returning to report to the capital, prompting the steward to buy supplies in advance.
Meanwhile, Wang Kun Wu starts militarizing the training of the servants in the west courtyard. Complaints arise, especially when he insists that the west courtyard must train to match the east courtyard’s intensity. The servants grumble since they only earn half the salary of their east courtyard counterparts, making such demands feel absurd. Yuan Mo joins in with the complaints. Shortly after, An Xiu Yi leads a group to the city gate to welcome the governor and mocks the disheartened west courtyard along the way.
A Shu soon finds a suitable house, but when she presents her documentation, the landlord informs her that it’s actually a servant's entry contract. To rent the house, she needs Yuan Mo's permission. Realizing she’s been deceived, A Shu buys a number of rare items, expecting Yuan Mo to cover the costs.
Back home, Yuan Mo is both angry and apologetic. A Shu, determined to seek revenge, listens as Yuan Mo explains that the household registration process is more complicated than she thought. Many details are unclear even to her, and the registration office won’t accept it. However, if she serves as a maid for a year, she can annul the contract and then register more easily. A Shu reluctantly agrees to stop being confrontational.
Yuan Mo invites Ji Mingli and Shen Bai Lian out for lamb soup. The three of them end up bickering over who will pay, and in the end, Wang Kun Wu covers the bill. He tosses some money to Yuan Mo, hoping to take on the task of welcoming the governor to the west courtyard. Yuan Mo accepts the money, promising he has a plan.
Later at home, Yuan Mo suggests that A Shu invite Yu Chi Hua to Ruyi Tower for drinks. Meanwhile, he and Wang Kun Wu deliberately discuss their influence in Changle in the next room, even mentioning the Yu Chi family, to secure the task of welcoming the governor. Yu Chi Hua overhears their conversation, visibly annoyed.
The next day, Yu De Shui received word that Dou Chun specifically designated the west courtyard for the welcoming ceremony. Yu De Shui assumed that Wang Kun Wu had connections, while both Wang Kun Wu and Yuan Mo pretended to be unaware. When the task was announced, no one in the west courtyard even believed it.
As Yu De Shui arranged for the east courtyard to handle minor affairs, everyone finally regained their composure. Wang Kun Wu immediately got to work on the related matters. Lin Su Su learned that Yu Chi Hua had orchestrated the takeover of the welcoming task and vowed to return the favor in kind.
After several days of chaos, the west courtyard servants were exhausted. Ji Mingli took the steward to view twenty houses, only to discover that Dou Chun had already chosen a preferred residence and had quietly moved in. Wang Kun Wu reassured his subordinates not to lose heart, while Yuan Mo was only focused on the promised rewards. Wang Kun Wu mentioned that although there was no money at the moment, the next day the Grand General would host a thank-you banquet with plenty of fine wine, which piqued Yuan Mo's interest.
At the Grand General's banquet the following day, Cao Huo presented a soul-reviving incense, and the renowned Hua Xiao Niang from Changle performed a dance. During the toasting, a sudden gust of wind swept through, and Cao Huo, seemingly possessed, began to kill indiscriminately. Dou Chun swiftly drew his sword and killed him. Yu Chi Hua started an investigation, with many believing that General Wei Yunqi's spirit had returned for vengeance. A Shu found the soul-reviving incense suspicious and decided to stay behind to inspect the body.
