Episode 4 recap: # Yuan Mo Discovers a Secret Passage, Wang Kun Wu and Tan Lin Have a Deep Discussion

## In Episode 4, A Shu boldly uses Yuan Mo as a guinea pig to test the toxicity of a mix of Dragon Scale Grass and Resurrection Incense. Meanwhile, Wang Kun Wu, after reporting to Yu De Shui, accidentally drinks the potion laced with Dragon Scale Grass. He ends up acting wildly, just like Cao Huo did before, claiming he needs to avenge his deceased brother. Fortunately, A Shu quickly intervenes with some calming powder, preventing the situation from escalating.

Once Wang Kun Wu regains his senses, he shares his strange experiences while poisoned, particularly his uncontrollable reaction to seeing a red rope. This triggers a memory for Yuan Mo, who recalls the red carpet in the hall when Cao Huo went mad, as well as the red folding fan that Hua Xiao Niang threw during her dance. Yuan Mo suspects that this is more complicated than it seems, with Dou Chun possibly being the true target and Hua Xiao Niang the prime suspect.

Wang Kun Wu intends to report this immediately to the Grand Commander Dou Chun, but Yu De Shui stops him, stating that the case is now under the jurisdiction of the Eastern Court. An Xiu Yi feels relieved by this, while Yu Chi Hua, who has worked closely with Wang Kun Wu, trusts him enough to let him continue assisting in the investigation.

The four of them head to the scene of the incident to search for clues. Jiang the steward explains that the red carpet was laid for a festive occasion, which sounds reasonable. Yuan Mo and A Shu then visit the spice shop owner, Guan Feng, who, sensing trouble, tries to bribe Yuan Mo with gold and silver to keep him quiet.

Hua Xiao Niang even plays a pipa tune for Wang Kun Wu, claiming it's an old military song from ten years ago. When he presses her for more information, she becomes uncooperative. Wang Kun Wu finds her behavior suspicious and warns An Xiu Yi to be cautious, but An Xiu Yi dismisses his concerns, thinking Wang Kun Wu is being overly self-important. Wang Kun Wu feels frustrated; he just wants to achieve something and return to the barracks, but it seems so difficult.

An Xiu Yi, worried about Dou Chun's safety, arranges for him to move to a more secluded location surrounded by water. He specifically warns Dou Chun to be wary of Hua Xiao Niang, but Dou Chun brushes it off. Jiang the steward even goes to Hua Xiao Niang’s room to keep an eye on her, while Lin Su Su waits outside.

The next day, Dou Chun is found dead in his room, but Hua Xiao Niang had no time to commit the murder. An Xiu Yi is furious, believing Wang Kun Wu is deliberately making him look bad, leading to a near fight between them. Fortunately, Yu De Shui arrives just in time to stop them, warning against infighting before the case is solved.

Tan Lin invites Wang Kun Wu for a drink, advising him not to see the Four Directions Pavilion as a prison. He suggests it’s a great place to gather foreign intelligence, which might help Wang Kun Wu find clues about the faceless man to avenge his brothers.

Meanwhile, Yuan Mo returns to his usual antics, attempting to buy information with money, leaving Yu Chi Hua confused. Fortunately, A Shu keenly notices that the wine Dou Chun drank before his death was suspicious; the taste in the cup and the jug is different. They follow this lead, and Yuan Mo discovers a secret underground passage.

With newfound courage, Yu Chi Hua and Wang Kun Wu venture inside the dark and eerie passage. The next day, Wang Kun Wu decides to change tactics, releasing the captured merchants and opting for covert surveillance instead.
