Episode 10 recap: # Gu Yi Zhong's Failed Scheme

In Episode 10, as Zhou Zhi Fei read the newspaper, he had a clear realization that Gu Yi Zhong must have secretly sent a message to his father, urging him to stay hidden. However, Gu Laodai was quite stubborn; not only did he refuse to leave, but he also insisted on throwing a grand 60th birthday celebration to lift everyone's spirits.

When Gu Yi Zhong woke up, he found Deputy Director Huang standing by his bed, holding a watch and claiming he was there to return it. Gu Yi Zhong, ever the diplomat, said his family had plenty of watches and urged Huang not to be modest, suggesting he keep it for himself. Feeling relieved, Huang happily put the watch on.

At that moment, Gao Hu returned with breakfast and wanted to share it. Understanding the hint, Huang left. Gu Yi Zhong waved off the food, insisting he wouldn't eat that, and pulled Gao Hu along to go out for a meal and even stop by a bathhouse.

In truth, he wanted to seize the opportunity to meet with the housekeeper, Fu Gui, to discuss some important matters. Meanwhile, Quan Shui and Zhou Zhi Fei met on a boat, where the atmosphere felt tense, as if something significant was brewing. Zhou Zhi Fei was dissatisfied with the chosen meeting spot, while Quan Shui, smiling, reminisced about their happy times on that very boat with Jin Hai.

At this, Zhou Zhi Fei's expression darkened, but he quickly regained his composure and issued a stern command to Quan Shui: regardless of whether Gu Xi Xing accepted the official's appointment, they needed to find a way to handle him. Surprised, Quan Shui pressed for an explanation, and Zhou Zhi Fei ominously reminded her that he knew she was hiding in Gu Yuan.

With those words, the tension escalated between them, hinting that a major event was imminent. Fu Gui returned to the Gu residence and reported his meeting with Gu Yi Zhong to Gu Xi Xing. Just as Quan Shui leaned in to listen, Hai Mo quietly approached from behind, warning her not to eavesdrop and threatening to expose the fake Hai Mo.

This infuriated Quan Shui, who, in a fit of rage, held a poisoned hairpin to Hai Mo’s neck, warning her not to cause trouble, or else both she and her brother would be in danger.

Seeing the situation escalate, Hai Mo softened. Quan Shui seized the moment to give her a letter from her brother, who was diligently training to become a pilot and expressed a desire to fight the Japanese. Reading it, Hai Mo felt warmth and pride for her brother.

Meanwhile, the GCD received instructions to fully protect Gu Laodai. However, Gu Xi Xing had already seen through the fake Hai Mo’s identity. Years ago, Hai Mo's father had forbidden her from singing, which raised his suspicions about the imposter. When the fake Hai Mo realized she couldn't maintain the ruse, she confessed that her real name was Lin Juan, the adopted daughter of Hai Mo's master, and that the real Hai Mo was long gone. She also clarified that only the story of her master being killed by the Japanese was true.

On Gu Xi Xing’s birthday, his daughter returned with her child to celebrate, and he was overjoyed, giving her money to ensure she wouldn’t suffer outside. In front of everyone, he even acknowledged Hai Mo as his goddaughter.

At that moment, Gu Yi Zhong arrived with the appointment letter, but Gu Xi Xing tore it up and shot Gu Yi Zhong. Gao Hu and the others rushed to take Gu Yi Zhong away. This was all part of Gu Yi Zhong’s plan; he had instructed Fu Gui to help his father escape by boat while he stayed behind in the office to await news.

Unexpectedly, Kondo Masao and Japanese soldiers suddenly appeared, creating an atmosphere of extreme tension. Realizing Gu Xi Xing had left, Quan Shui knew they couldn’t stay there any longer and began to pack up with Hai Mo, preparing to flee.
