Episode 15 recap: # Cell No. 8 Confirmed as Hu Zhi Ping
In Episode 15, Zhou Zhi Fei holds a precious gift—an authentic painting by Li Bai—intending to visit Kondo Masao. His primary goal is not just to present a grand gesture, but to seek help. His son has been bullied at school in Japan, and he hopes Kondo will intervene on his behalf. Kondo agrees to call the school to inquire about the situation, but he firmly refuses the painting, mentioning the Changzhou grain procurement case and emphasizing the need to solve that first as an act of justice. Zhou Zhi Fei, feeling a mix of gratitude and disappointment, reluctantly puts away the artwork and leaves.
Meanwhile, Zhou Zhen Wu and Xiao Ruo Tong are struggling with the situation regarding Cui Yao Min. Zhou Zhen Wu insists that Gu Yi Zhong is not the "Cell No. 8" they're looking for and suspects that Gu Hui Zhong might be involved. He devises a plan to use Ding Jian Zhong to lure out the truth. Xiao Ruo Tong agrees in spirit but remains silent, waiting to see what happens next.
Gu Hui Zhong sincerely asks Hu Zhi Ping if he trusts her. Summoning her courage, she reveals a secret: during her time in the base, she mysteriously disappeared for half a day to visit a classmate, Yu Qing. To her surprise, Yu Qing's husband turns out to be Zhou Zhi Fei, and they even took a photo together. However, she didn't have the chance to inform her organization about this later due to an urgent matter. Hu Zhi Ping feels a bit uneasy about her but also understands her predicament.
Gu Yi Zhong rushes to the hospital with medicine, troubled by the number of malaria patients. While inquiring about Gu Hui Zhong from Wang Ma, he prepares to find her but stumbles upon Wu Zhi Ping and Zhou Zhi Fei talking quietly, causing him to feel suspicious.
Hu Zhi Ping informs Zhou Zhi Fei that Gu Hui Zhong inadvertently mentioned going to his home, and he worries this could lead to misunderstandings with the Communists, potentially putting him in danger. Zhou Zhi Fei, eager to learn about the underground party’s contact points for his own safety, tries to probe Hu Zhi Ping, who refuses to disclose anything. Remembering the consequences of previous leaks, Zhou Zhi Fei prepares for "going undercover" and hints at bringing Ding Jian Sheng into the picture.
Zhou Zhi Fei proposes enlisting military intelligence to eliminate Ding Jian Sheng, which raises the tension at home. Just then, Yu Qing unexpectedly returns, interrupting their plans. Although they quickly separate, Yu Qing senses something is off and pulls Zhou Zhi Fei aside to ask what’s going on. Zhou Zhi Fei comes clean, assuring her that nothing is going on with Weng Tai, which puts her at ease.
On another note, Boss Du is genuinely fond of Hai Mo. When he hears she has a performance coming up, he is thrilled. He also discovers that Hai Mo has someone backing her, making it easy for her to secure a performance permit. Thanks to this person, even the owner of Guang Yu Club treats him with more respect. Boss Du is filled with hope for Hai Mo's future.
During her performance, Hai Mo spots Gu Yi Zhong in the audience. After the show, she rushes off the stage to find him. Gu Yi Zhong is looking for Xiao Ruo Tong but is unsure of her whereabouts, leaving him to figure things out on his own. Meanwhile, Hu Zhi Ping is worried about the lack of baby formula for his child and seeks help from Zhou Zhi Fei, who not only provides the formula but also gives him extra money. On his way home, Hu Zhi Ping fails to notice Gu Yi Zhong quietly following him.
Ding Jian Sheng remains unhappy about Xiao Ruo Tong's presence. She explains that it's too dangerous outside. At that moment, Hu Zhi Ping bursts in, insisting that they need to leave immediately with Ding Jian Sheng.
