Episode 25 recap: # Gu Yi Zhong and Hai Mo's Wedding
In Episode 25, Captain Zhang suggests to Zhou Zhi Fei that interrogating Fu Gui could reveal the secrets behind the painting from Huang Xin Zhai. Zhou Zhi Fei agrees, recognizing the logic in Zhang's idea, and assigns him to lead the Japanese in this effort. He also notices Zhang's ambition to become the deputy station chief and promises to help him, leaving Zhang feeling immensely grateful.
Meanwhile, Kondo Masao tries to persuade Gu Yi Zhong to be the president of the Suzhou Sino-Japanese Cultural Exchange Association. However, Gu Yi Zhong declines and instead recommends Zhou Zhi Fei. Kondo sees this as Gu Yi Zhong's fear of Zhou Zhi Fei and encourages him, downplaying Zhou's abilities while praising Gu Yi Zhong's sincerity and potential to lead the 90th unit in the future.
Fu Gui is in a temple praying for blessings for Gu Yi Zhong, filled with sincerity. Suddenly, Japanese military police and spies from the 90th unit storm in, and Captain Zhang sternly orders Fu Gui to come with him. Fu Gui senses the danger but has no choice but to comply. As they exit the temple, Fu Gui pulls the pin on a grenade, sacrificing himself and several Japanese soldiers in a tragic explosion.
Zhou Zhi Fei is furious upon hearing Kondo's intention to make Gu Yi Zhong president. When Captain Zhang reports that Fu Gui is dead, Zhou's anger intensifies, and he orders the arrest of Hai Mo to pressure Gu Yi Zhong. Upon learning of Hai Mo's capture, Gu Yi Zhong rushes to confront Zhou Zhi Fei. Seizing the moment, Zhou tries to use Hai Mo as leverage against Gu Yi Zhong.
Unfazed, Gu Yi Zhong exposes Zhou Zhi Fei's scheme and reveals that he has already eliminated the sniper Zhou had arranged. Kondo grows suspicious of Hai Mo's identity and demands evidence from Zhou. Zhou presents a payslip, but Gu Yi Zhong quickly points out that Hai Mo's name was added later. He then reveals that Hai Mo is actually his fiancée, alleviating Kondo's doubts.
With Huang Xin Zhai dead, Kondo seeks to balance the power within the 90th unit by releasing Hai Mo and subtly hinting at curbing Zhou Zhi Fei's influence. Sensing an opportunity, Zhou Zhi Fei proposes that Captain Zhang become the deputy station chief, but Kondo has different plans. He unveils Li Xian Sheng's appointment letter, declaring Gu Yi Zhong as the new deputy and urging him to marry Hai Mo.
Zhou Zhi Fei feels a pang of jealousy and mocks Gu Yi Zhong, suggesting that this marriage is merely a political alliance, similar to his own past. Understanding this, Gu Yi Zhong consults with Old Huang, who suggests a fake marriage. Although reluctant, Gu Yi Zhong agrees to this plan.
He personally goes to the prison to bring Hai Mo out. Their eyes meet, and she senses that he has something unspoken. Gu Yi Zhong straightforwardly proposes marriage, and although Hai Mo feels conflicted, she smiles and agrees.
Meanwhile, Xiao Ruo Tong is happily knitting a scarf for Gu Yi Zhong, eagerly anticipating giving it to him. But when Liu Ge arrives and tells her about Gu Yi Zhong's impending marriage to Hai Mo and his decision to leave the base, Xiao Ruo Tong struggles to accept it. Regardless of Liu Ge's attempts to comfort her, she insists on seeing Gu Yi Zhong, fearing she will witness a wedding she never wanted to see.
