Episode 27 recap: # Zhou Zhi Fei Plans to Capture Huang Qiu Sheng
In Episode 27, Hai Mo made a nice cup of tea for Xiao Ye. As they chatted, she discovered Xiao Ye had a deep appreciation for Suzhou pingtan, particularly favoring the Yu tune, and he held great respect for her mentor, Zhang Yu Quan. Meanwhile, Gu Yi Zhong was busy gathering intelligence. Cleverly using his trash collection job as a cover, he aimed to uncover some military secrets. Once back home, Hai Mo, overwhelmed with the day's scents, hurriedly informed Gu Yi Zhong that Xiao Ye had visited.
Gu Yi Zhong smiled knowingly, revealing Xiao Ye's full name and mentioning that he had backing from the Japanese military, indicating that Xiao Ye's identity was not simple. It dawned on Hai Mo that Gu Yi Zhong had been keeping an eye on Xiao Ye for some time, and this visit wasn’t just a casual meeting.
Kondō Masao approached Gu Yi Zhong with a new task: Zhou Zhi Fei's outdated methods for training spies needed a fresh approach. Gu Yi Zhong felt challenged, but Kondō Masao insisted he didn’t want Zhou Zhi Fei to have the final say. He handed Gu Yi Zhong some reference materials, which Gu Yi Zhong cleverly photographed for later.
Meanwhile, Zhou Zhi Fei was receiving a massage from Captain Zhang, who revealed Kondō Masao’s intentions. Zhou Zhi Fei understood Gu Yi Zhong's capabilities and felt confident he could outmaneuver him. However, Gu Yi Zhong personally visited Zhou Zhi Fei, suggesting he continue as the leader. Zhou Zhi Fei feigned courtesy, claiming he wasn’t feeling well and offered him a piece of chocolate, secretly waiting to see Gu Yi Zhong stumble.
At home, Zhou Zhi Fei faced another issue: his son, You Fei, had returned from abroad, heavily influenced by Japanese culture. The two had a heated argument over this. Before sending You Fei back to Japan, Zhou Zhi Fei felt a pang of discomfort when he saw his son bowing to his classmates in the Japanese style.
Just then, a secret letter from Wan Li Lang added fuel to the fire, as it contained a photo of Lao Huang, making Zhou Zhi Fei increasingly wary. After some investigation, Lao Huang's identity became more mysterious. Zhou Zhi Fei dispatched Xie Wen Chao to keep watch, initiating a covert struggle involving Gu Yi Zhong, Lao Huang, and Zhou Zhi Fei.
Lao Huang, not one to be easily caught, sensed he was being followed. He set a trap, leading his pursuers to a remote area and using cigarette packs to create confusion before slipping away. When Xie Wen Chao returned with the report of losing the target, Zhou Zhi Fei deduced Lao Huang had outsmarted them. He quickly ordered a manhunt and enlisted Xie Wen Chao's help. Coincidentally, Gu Yi Zhong happened to pass by and overheard the phone call, swiftly alerting the underground party to rescue Lao Huang.
The messenger rushed to Lao Huang's home, only to find it swarming with agents. Thinking quickly, he used a mirror to distract them but failed to realize Lao Huang had already escaped. Continuing to signal for help, he was ultimately caught himself. As for Lao Huang, he hid in a noodle shop, enjoying a meal when the agents arrived. Quick-witted, he tore up the intelligence and mixed it into his food.
When Xie Wen Chao arrived, Lao Huang had nothing in his mouth, and the information was lost. Zhou Zhi Fei, learning that Lao Huang had been captured, immediately planned the next steps. He instructed Xie Wen Chao to take the prisoner away and specifically asked Captain Zhang to invite Gu Yi Zhong over that night. Zhou Zhi Fei knew that nighttime was when people were most vulnerable, making interrogation much more effective.
