Episode 33 recap: # Gu Yi Zhong Persuades Kondo to Surrender to the New Fourth Army
In Episode 33, Gu Yi Zhong was having a great time at home with Junsheng when he suddenly received a phone call inviting him to see a poetry collection. Thinking it was work-related, he hurried off. Upon arrival, he was surprised when someone snatched the item from his hands—it wasn't a poetry book, but *Dream of the Red Chamber*! Both sides were left stunned.
Meanwhile, Zhou Zhi Fei saw Yan Jing arriving with a book and felt a sinking feeling, fearing something had happened to Gu Yi Zhong. When he realized it was *Dream of the Red Chamber*, his anxiety grew, prompting him to rush to find Li Xian Sheng for help.
Back at home, Gu Yi Zhong intended to discuss matters with Kondo Masao but stumbled upon Japanese officers bullying Lv Zhu. Unable to stand by, he intervened, but the officers ignored him. One even attempted to get physical, but Lv Zhu was fierce; she grabbed a gun and took care of the officer, ultimately leading to her own tragic fate. Gu Yi Zhong watched helplessly, deeply pained, as he gently covered Lv Zhu with his coat, the silence heavy with his sighs.
Upon hearing that Zhou Zhi Fei had been captured, Yu Qing was frantic, rushing to Li Xian Sheng's house, only to find him gravely ill and unable to help. Determined, she decided to go to Nanjing for assistance.
Kondo Masao, learning of Yu Qing's plans, quickly sought out Gu Yi Zhong, urging him to resolve Zhou Zhi Fei’s situation. On the brink of death, Zhou Zhi Fei wanted to see Li Xian Sheng, and Yan Jing, seeing his condition, agreed. In front of Li Xian Sheng, Zhou Zhi Fei discovered that Kondo was behind his troubles. Li Xian Sheng urged him to retrieve Mrs. Li and other important items.
Zhou Zhi Fei seemed to understand something and asked Yan Jing to take him home for a moment. Yan Jing brought him to Yu Qing, and the two worked seamlessly together; while Yan Jing was distracted, Yu Qing shot the Japanese soldiers. After their escape, Yu Qing worried about her child, but Zhou Zhi Fei reassured her, telling her to go to Mrs. Li for supplies while he would handle the situation with the child.
Zhou Zhi Fei made it to Chongqing, where Boss Dai personally met him and offered him a generous position. Meanwhile, things had changed in Suzhou; Captain Zhang's attitude towards Gu Yi Zhong shifted dramatically. Wan Li Lang announced the closure of the No. 90 Special Agent Station, replaced by a Political Security Bureau, with Gu Yi Zhong appointed as the director and Xie Wen Chao as the deputy director.
To show goodwill, Gu Yi Zhong hosted a dinner for Wan Li Lang and others, presenting them with generous gifts. During the meal, Captain Zhang mentioned that Wan Li Lang felt Gu Yi Zhong lacked tact, which led to Xie Wen Chao's promotion. This left Gu Yi Zhong feeling uneasy; after a few drinks, he began reminiscing about his old comrade, Huang.
With the atomic bomb dropped on Japan, Gu Yi Zhong realized that Japan was nearing its end. He planned to quietly escape with Hai Mo, asking her to gather their things while he checked on the situation at the No. 90 Special Agent Station. Noticing Kondo Masao's recent low profile, he decided to speak with him.
Gu Yi Zhong discussed many things with Kondo, informing him that the Emperor had surrendered and that the Japanese government was in disarray. He urged Kondo to surrender to the New Fourth Army and return Suzhou to the people. Kondo replied that he would persuade General Kobayashi. Returning home, Gu Yi Zhong and Hai Mo discussed their escape plans, but Hai Mo insisted on staying with him. Together, they resolved to face the future.
