Episode 36 recap: # Gu Yi Zhong and Hai Mo Reunited

In Episode 36, just as Judge Jin Ji Chang is about to deliver his verdict on Gu Yi Zhong, the courtroom is suddenly interrupted by the entrance of Hai Mo and Luo Wu Qiang, bringing a twist of fate for Gu Yi Zhong. Luo Wu Qiang, a key figure in the negotiations between the Nationalists and Communists, steps forward to testify to Gu Yi Zhong's innocence, highlighting his contributions to the revolution.

However, Zhou Zhi Fei quickly retaliates with even more serious accusations, claiming that Gu Yi Zhong is implicated in the murder of military intelligence agents and their associates, escalating the tension once again.

Ou Xin Ping’s brother, Qu Mao Chun, overwhelmed by grief over the loss of his family, loses control and directly accuses Gu Yi Zhong of being the murderer of his sister, threatening to take drastic measures. This sudden turn of events forces the judge to call for a recess, and Gu Yi Zhong is once again imprisoned. Zhou Zhi Fei seizes this opportunity to threaten Gu Yi Zhong in jail, suggesting that he faces a grim fate given the brutal history of the prison.

Ignoring her own safety, Hai Mo visits Gu Yi Zhong again to inform him about the underground party's plan to break him out, but he firmly refuses. Gu Yi Zhong realizes that this move would only deepen his troubles. Instead, he asks Hai Mo about her past with Ou Xin Ping, revealing her sympathy for Ou Xin Ping while also highlighting her unfamiliarity with his family, particularly her surprise at Qu Mao Chun's existence.

Growing suspicious, Gu Yi Zhong urges Hai Mo to contact Luo Wu Qiang to investigate Qu Mao Chun’s true identity. Meanwhile, Captain Zhang’s tender moments with his daughter are violently interrupted by an assassination attempt. Thankfully, his daughter manages to save him, but Captain Zhang is still injured. The underground party quickly uncovers Qu Mao Chun’s true nature—he is a pawn set up by Zhou Zhi Fei to frame Gu Yi Zhong.

Inspired by the Communist Party, Qu Mao Chun has a change of heart and bravely takes the stand in court, exposing Zhou Zhi Fei’s conspiracy. Luo Wu Qiang brings the injured Captain Zhang to testify, where he not only accuses Zhou Zhi Fei of treason but also presents irrefutable evidence, including his signature, which completely dismantles Zhou Zhi Fei's lies.

Faced with undeniable evidence, Judge Jin Ji Chang decisively orders Zhou Zhi Fei's arrest. Although Zhou Zhi Fei tries to leverage his status to escape justice, he ultimately cannot evade the law. Yu Qing, desperate to save her husband, exhausts her family's resources to bribe Jiang Bo Xian, only to learn that Dai Li is dead, leaving Zhou Zhi Fei in utter despair.

Before his execution, Zhou Zhi Fei bids farewell to Xiao Fei, urging him to uphold his principles. Meanwhile, Kondo Masao meets an unfortunate end, shocked to discover that Zhou Zhi Fei was behind it all. Determined to settle the score with Gu Yi Zhong, Zhou Zhi Fei seeks a final confrontation but fails to achieve his goal.

Gu Yi Zhong, with a deep smile, makes Zhou Zhi Fei realize that the true "lonely boat" is himself. After Zhou Zhi Fei is executed, Gu Yi Zhong feels a bittersweet relief as he avenges his father. Following his father’s burial, he decides to reopen the construction company to restore historical sites in Suzhou, preserving the city’s memories.

However, his longing for Hai Mo remains profound. By chance, amidst the sounds of traditional music, he reunites with Lin Shu Juan, who has taken on the name Hai Mo. Together, they continue to fight side by side on a new revolutionary journey.
