Episode 12 recap: A Son Hides the Truth from His Mother

In this episode, Zhou Quan has not been exercising for a long time. He runs for a long stretch and ends up vomiting from exhaustion, which amuses his friend Yuan Yi. Today is the grand opening of the work studio run by Che Li and Meng Fei. Zhou Quan drives to the studio to drop off a computer, and since Yuan Yi's car is restricted, he hitches a ride with Zhou Quan and they buy a bunch of fried chicken along the way.

When Meng Fei and Yuan Yi meet, they immediately start bickering. Che Li and Zhou Quan make an excuse to step out, leaving the two to talk it out. Over the fried chicken, Meng Fei asks Yuan Yi for business advice, not realizing that Yuan Yi is the expert Tony that Zhou Quan had recommended. Yuan Yi explains the situation, and Meng Fei is grateful for the help.

The studio suddenly loses power, and Yuan Yi eagerly digs into the fried chicken. Meng Fei mentions the funny story about the landlord's ducks downstairs, and the power is restored just as Meng Fei teases Yuan Yi for his voracious chicken-eating.

Zhou Quan's mother has joined a choir that is going to perform in Suzhou, so she makes a bunch of dumplings and heads out. Zhou Quan and his son Ai Wen wash the car together happily. Che Li is touched to see them bonding. The nosy neighbor Yü Qiao Qiao gossips about Zhou Quan being a stay-at-home dad, and Che Li proudly confirms it in front of everyone.

When Zhou's mother returns, she is surprised to hear that Zhou Quan cooks well, since he never could before. She wants to stay and help take care of Ai Wen, but Che Li and Zhou Quan firmly refuse. That night, Zhou's mother video calls with her husband and speaks briefly with Zhou Quan and Che Li.

The Episode Review

This episode of "As Husband as Wife" continues to showcase the growing harmony and warmth within the Zhou family. The opening scenes of Zhou Quan's exhausting workout and the banter between Meng Fei and Yuan Yi provide some amusing comedic moments.

The focus then shifts to the opening of Che Li and Meng Fei's new work studio, which allows for some nice character development as the two men start to see eye-to-eye. Yuan Yi's willingness to mentor Meng Fei demonstrates his growth from the more selfish person we've seen in earlier episodes.

The heartwarming family moments are the real highlight, however. Seeing Zhou Quan and his son Ai Wen bonding while washing the car is a touching slice-of-life scene. Che Li's pride in her husband's new role as a stay-at-home dad is also wonderful to witness.
