Episode 18 recap: Grandpa Zhou Interferes with Chili and Quan's Life

In Episode 18, Ai-wen and Quan were sitting in one row, while Chili was sitting in the front row. As soon as they boarded the plane, Quan started dozing off. Ai-wen then asked the flight attendant for a drink with ice and secretly drank it when Quan wasn't looking. Suddenly, Ai-wen was struck with severe abdominal pain, and he quickly sought Chili's help. When the plane landed in Beijing, Quan and Chili took Ai-wen to the hospital, and after the medical staff's efforts, Ai-wen's pain was quickly relieved.

Chili then checked the three of them into a hotel, and she quickly changed into a backless black evening gown to attend an awards ceremony. Ai-wen wanted to go with Chili, but she asked Quan to take Ai-wen instead, as Quan didn't have a formal suit and had to go in casual wear. At the event venue, the staff mistook Quan for Chili's driver and personal assistant, and Quan didn't bother to correct them.

Chili won the "Popular Star" award and gave an acceptance speech. Her senior, Lin Qing, who was the platform's leader, also attended the event and proactively greeted Chili. The two of them sat down and chatted warmly, which made Quan feel a little jealous. Ai-wen had fallen asleep due to his discomfort, and Quan held him in his arms.

Seeing Ai-wen asleep, Chili didn't feel at ease and bade farewell to Lin Qing. Lin Qing learned that Chili's husband and child were also at the event and came over to greet them. When they returned home, they found Grandpa Zhou waiting for them. Grandpa Zhou had been unable to reach Quan, so he came to the house to confront him.

Grandpa Zhou claimed he missed Ai-wen and wanted to stay at Quan's house for a month. Quan was very distressed, knowing his father's visit was not for a good reason.

The next morning, Quan took Ai-wen to the kindergarten, and Grandpa Zhou followed closely. After dropping off Ai-wen, Quan went to the market to buy groceries, and Grandpa Zhou continued to follow him, confirming that Quan was a stay-at-home dad. That night, Grandpa Zhou questioned Quan, doubting his decision to be a full-time father, as he felt Quan was underachieving. Quan argued that he was more suitable to care for Ai-wen, and that being a stay-at-home dad was his profession, even showing Grandpa Zhou the labor contract he and Chili had signed. However, Grandpa Zhou still couldn't accept it, feeling that Quan lacked ambition. Quan's mother tried to persuade Grandpa Zhou, but he remained unconvinced.

Early the next morning, Grandpa Zhou accompanied Chili to her studio, not even having breakfast. Chili took him to the studio, hoping to give Grandpa Zhou a better understanding of their family's situation. Chili sent a message to Quan, who then felt relieved. When Grandpa Zhou saw Meng Fei, he asked about her marital status, to which Meng Fei quickly made an excuse to leave.

Grandpa Zhou learned that Chili's studio only had three employees, and he advised Chili to focus more on the family and fully support Quan's work. Chili didn't know how to respond, but a client call helped ease the awkwardness. When Li Zi-liu arrived for work, Chili was eager to hold a meeting with her and Meng Fei, and Grandpa Zhou waited outside.

At lunchtime, Li Zi-liu bought a takeout box, and Grandpa Zhou criticized them for being wasteful, saying they should cook instead. Learning that Meng Fei was still single, Grandpa Zhou wanted to introduce her to a potential suitor. Chili made up an excuse to send Meng Fei away, and Li Zi-liu also took the opportunity to leave. After finishing his lunch, Grandpa Zhou finally left, reminding Chili to come home early, as he had something to discuss with her.

Grandpa Zhou then went home to negotiate with Quan, urging Quan to go out and work, as he felt the gap between Quan and Chili was growing. Quan believed that women didn't necessarily have to be homemakers, and men didn't have to go out and conquer the world, but Grandpa Zhou just couldn't accept Quan as a stay-at-home dad, feeling it was unambitious.
