Episode 9 recap: Jiang Bu Ting and Huo Xing Chen make a seven-day agreement.
After learning that he had no martial arts skills, Huo Xing Chen suddenly seemed like a different person. He lost his appetite and felt like a useless individual. He became despondent, and upon seeing him in such a state, both Jiang Bu Ting and Mu Bing He took turns trying to console him. Mu Bing He, knowing what Huo Xing Chen liked to eat, bought a bunch of delicious food for him. However, Huo Xing Chen didn't even spare it a glance. Later, Mu Bing He brought the betrothal gifts prepared for Huo Xing Chen and urged him to imagine the scene of having children and a happy family after their marriage. However, Huo Xing Chen ignored his words and turned a blind eye to the precious heirlooms that were brought.
The maidservants, witnessing Mu Bing He's efforts and thinking that he would be able to win over Huo Xing Chen, believed that their mistress must have been enchanted by those gifts. When Jiang Bu Ting arrived, they advised him not to waste his efforts anymore and recounted the scene when Mu Bing He came to deliver the gifts. From the maidservants' account, Jiang Bu Ting learned that Huo Xing Chen hadn't eaten anything and realized that she was still not doing well. So he bought a grill and started roasting lamb skewers in front of Huo Xing Chen's door, deliberately letting the aroma waft inside.
Although Huo Xing Chen smelled the delicious aroma of the roasted lamb, she resisted the temptation to go and eat it. Witnessing this scene, Jiang Bu Ting couldn't help but feel some regret and thought that he shouldn't have revealed the truth. As a result, he even slapped himself a few times. In order to work on Huo Xing Chen, Jiang Bu Ting came up with another idea. He held an egg in front of her and posed a question: "Is the egg hard or is the stone hard?"
Huo Xing Chen initially thought that Jiang Bu Ting was mocking her for overestimating her abilities or lacking self-awareness. However, Jiang Bu Ting surprised her by explaining that true strength is not solely determined by outward appearances, but by the strength of one's inner self. Jiang Bu Ting listed the instances where Huo Xing Chen had shown her inner strength during her previous adventures, praising her for standing up for him and even transforming into an otherworldly being to protect him.
In addition to acknowledging Huo Xing Chen's inner strength, Jiang Bu Ting also informed her that martial prowess is not innate, but acquired through diligent effort. He asked Huo Xing Chen who had a better physique between the two of them. From Jiang Bu Ting's previous stories, Huo Xing Chen already knew that Jiang Bu Ting had always had a weak constitution, which was unlikely to improve even as he grew older. If his body was truly healthy, why would he be confined to a wheelchair? Realizing this, Huo Xing Chen had an epiphany. If Jiang Bu Ting, with his poor health, could excel in martial arts, why couldn't she? After understanding these points, she decided to relearn martial arts from her father.
Huo Qing Liu deeply cared for and loved Huo Xing Chen, but he was unsure how to assist her. He heard that Jiang Bu Ting and Mu Bing He were constantly by their daughter's side, so he wasn't overly worried. He instructed the maidservants to report to him daily about the situation. When he heard that Jiang Bu Ting and Mu Bing He were imitating chicken and duck sounds outside their daughter's room, he found them quite amusing. Regardless of which one became his son-in-law, he believed it wouldn't be a mistake. Later, the maidservants provided a detailed account of how Mu Bing He and Jiang Bu Ting tried to persuade Huo Xing Chen. After hearing the exaggerated story from the maidservants, Jiang Bu Ting insulted Huo Xing Chen as useless. Surprisingly, Huo Xing Chen did not get angry or lose her temper. Huo Qing Liu understood that Huo Xing Chen had made up her mind. When he heard that she intended to learn martial arts proactively, he arranged for his nephew Jian Wa to teach her.
Encouraged by Jiang Bu Ting, Huo Xing Chen regained her confidence. During her martial arts training, she displayed exceptional perseverance, even causing the household servants who were doing horse stances with her to collapse from exhaustion. Nevertheless, she persisted. She made a seven-day agreement with Jiang Bu Ting: if she couldn't defeat him within seven days, she would stop bothering him. However, if she won, Jiang Bu Ting had to take her on adventures in the jianghu (martial arts world).
