Episode 12 recap: Breaking Through the Clue Interruption with Art
In Episode 12, Wang Liqun reviews the materials left by Lu Zhengyang and recalls how, after his brother Wang Li Heng was killed, he was prevented by Bolao from pursuing the truth. Although witness Ma Jianqi hasn't arrived yet, Wang Liqun begins to doubt Bolao, leading him to shed tears of remorse.
The plan to relocate Wang Liqun is set, and that night, they quietly move him. The plainclothes team guarding the hospital withdraws. Jiang Yang and his men discover that the suspect has been relocated and immediately give chase. On the road, Wang Liqun's convoy is ambushed. Seizing the opportunity, Wang Liqun takes Jin Yan hostage and threatens Lu Zhengyang to open the back door, insisting he needs to return to handle something—it's obvious he wants to confront Bolao to confirm whether Bolao killed his brother.
Jiang Yang arrives and, hidden in the shadows, shoots at Wang Liqun, who is holding Jin Yan hostage. Lu Zhengyang realizes something is amiss and deduces that there are two groups present: one trying to rescue Wang Liqun and the other aiming to silence him. Amid the chaos, a bomb is thrown, and Xu Wei uses the smoke for cover to escape with Wang Liqun on a motorcycle. During the ride, Wang Liqun criticizes Xu Wei's driving, which reminds Xu Wei of Wang Liqun's previous threats and insults. Angry, he loses control and crashes the bike, throwing both of them off.
Wang Liqun continues to berate Xu Wei, but Xu Wei retaliates by shooting him in the abdomen. Jiang Yang arrives just in time to witness Xu Wei kill Wang Liqun. By the time Lu Zhengyang and the others arrive, Wang Liqun is already dead, and Jiang Yang has fled the scene. The aftermath leaves behind a type of inhumane hollow-point bullet that has been banned, with only a few still circulating on the black market.
Xu Wei returns to inform Bolao that the Eagle has died. Under Lu Zhengyang's psychological attack, he suspects Bolao of killing Wang Li Heng. To prevent him from exposing everyone, Xu Wei decides to kill him. Bolao plans to appoint Xu Wei as the leader of the action team, but doubts his experience will win over the team, so he decides to wait.
It seems the relocation route for Wang Liqun has been leaked. During the route planning, Lin Shaobai was in solitary confinement, ruling him out as a suspect. Lu Zhengyang requests Deputy Director Yang to allow Lin Shaobai to join him for an internal investigation. Initially resistant, Lin Shaobai quickly agrees when he learns he’ll remain in confinement longer.
Xu Wei tries to secretly take his wife Zhao Lan away, but is stopped by Xiao Yun. Her lies convince Zhao Lan that Xu Wei is involved in a secret anti-terror organization within the police, leading her to agree to go with Xiao Yun, relieving Xu Wei of his worries.
Only Xu Wei knows that Zhao Lan’s departure turns her into a bargaining chip for Bolao, forcing him to comply with Bolao's every directive. After the internal investigation, only Lao Xu and Lao Chen, who went to the bathroom, are deemed suspicious. Lin Shaobai and Lu Zhengyang investigate the Taiping Bathhouse and discover that Lao Xu was absent for only five minutes, not enough time for Lao Chen to access the route map stored in a package room.
They then question the owner and learn that a police officer named Bai Qingfang visited that day and checked all the lockers. His yellowing fingers indicate he is a heavy opium user, making him the prime suspect. However, they are unable to track down Bai Qingfang's residence, and he is subsequently silenced by Xu Wei. Initially thought to have died from a morphine overdose, Jin Yan later discovers needle marks on his chest, indicating someone injected morphine directly into his heart.
Lu Zhengyang states that the next breakthrough point is a promotional poster in the hospital. If it contains information meant for Wang Liqun, it could be crucial. Cen Xiaoman also presents several paintings found in a trading firm, suspecting they may be Bolao's work.
