Episode 2 recap: PLA Enters Shanghai to Maintain Peace
Ye Shi Wu plans to blow up the power plant but is unsure where to place the explosives since Chief Engineer Rong hasn’t arrived yet. Lin Shao Bai is ordered to help, but he seizes the opportunity to escape with the car keys. Just as he starts the car, Ye Shi Wu and his men intercept him. Lin Shao Bai lies, claiming he needs to find Chief Engineer Rong, insisting he’s been present at many meals with him, hosted by his uncle, Jin Maochang.
Unconvinced, Ye Shi Wu has Lin Shao Bai detained and instructs his men to tie him to the explosion's epicenter during the blast, stating they will publicly declare Lin Shao Bai a martyr. Soon after, Chief Engineer Rong (Rong Zheng) arrives, and Lin Shao Bai introduces himself. Ye Shi Wu takes this chance to test Rong's identity.
Rong quickly exposes Lin Shao Bai as a police officer, not a secretary, since he wore a police uniform during their last meal together. With no doubt left, Ye Shi Wu allows Rong to enter and set up the explosives. Meanwhile, Xu Wei sees Lin Shao Bai being taken by Ye Shi Wu and rushes back to the ship to find him.
After Rong makes preliminary arrangements, he says he’s going to the restroom. Coincidentally, Lin Shao Bai attempts to escape through the bathroom, but Rong throws the wire he intended to use to unlock the door far away. In desperation, Lin Shao Bai claims he has never been to the Shaxun Building for a meal and has never met Rong, implying that Rong is lying about knowing him.
Lin Shao Bai senses that Rong is not aligned with Ye Shi Wu and must be there to rescue the power plant, possibly a member of the G Party. He threatens to expose Rong's identity, but "Rong Zheng" warns him to stay silent, or he will face dire consequences. If "Rong" completes his tasks, he might come back to help Lin Shao Bai.
Xu Wei runs to find Mao Sen, hoping he can lead him to Lin Shao Bai, but instead, he is captured by Mao Sen and taken to the island. Meanwhile, Ye Shi Wu receives a call, learning that the real Chief Engineer Rong has been taken hostage.
At this moment, "Rong Zheng" dismisses Ye Shi Wu's men and dismantles all the detonator wires. Ye Shi Wu quickly arrives with his people, surrounding the fake "Rong Zheng." Meanwhile, the driver has been notified and cuts the power, allowing "Rong Zheng" to take Ye Shi Wu hostage in the darkness. However, Lao Dong, Cao Rui, and others refuse to let the G Party go in exchange for Ye Shi Wu's safety.
Ye Shi Wu is shot and killed by his own men. Lin Shao Bai, who witnesses everything in the shadows, goes through a brief moment of hesitation but ultimately decides to drive over to rescue the fake "Rong Zheng." They are soon attacked. The fake "Rong Zheng" asks Lin Shao Bai to help him out so they can assess the situation. Before Lin Shao Bai can respond, they hear the voices of the People's Liberation Army outside.
The PLA enters the city and saves Lin Shao Bai and the fake "Rong Zheng." This fake "Rong Zheng" is named Lu Zhengyang, an experienced old agent of the Communist Party; Lin Shao Bai had met him four years ago. Lin Shao Bai is taken away with his weapon disassembled. He sees many PLA comrades lying on the ground and learns that they have made a promise to the citizens of Shanghai not to step into their homes.
Lin Shao Bai's two mothers rush to Jin Maochang, crying and expressing their worries about Shaobai. Liu Gui Hang, left behind by Mao Sen, is soon discovered by Beilao. Liu Gui Hang, who is eavesdropping, realizes he has been exposed. He leaves the watch shop but is already targeted by the falcons arranged by Beilao.
Although Beilao is not on-site, he keeps track of Liu Gui Hang’s movements, ultimately waiting for him at the British blue chimney dock. He doesn’t take any action but exposes Liu Gui Hang’s smug demeanor. Two days later, Lu Zhengyang personally leads an interrogation of Lin Shao Bai, who appears to confess honestly.
