Episode 23 recap: Providing Clues to the Task Force

In the 23rd episode, Xiao Yun behaves very appropriately. After she takes the initiative to drink tea, Jiang Yang assumes there’s no drug in it and takes a sip as well. Xiao Yun mentions that she needs to go upstairs to bring the boss down. As soon as Jiang Yang waits for him to come down, he plans to act. However, the drug kicks in, and he is quickly subdued by Li Xu, who knocks him out with a strike to the back of his neck. The Eagle Squad receives orders to take Jin Maochang away separately, and soon after, Jiang Yang is tied up and brought before Old Jin.

To protect his two children, Jiang Yang resolutely refuses to reveal that Old Jin hired someone to commit murder. At this point, Berla appears and presents Old Jin with two options: either both he and Jiang Yang are thrown into the pit, with Berla doing the work; or Jiang Yang goes down, and Old Jin does the work. Remembering Jiang Yang's countless promises that he would never expose Old Jin if he were at risk, Old Jin ultimately takes action to save his own life and for the sake of his daughter, Jin Yan, and he buries Jiang Yang alive.

Based on Jin Yan’s test results, Lao Lu and his team analyze various characteristics of the potential locations where the entrepreneur might be held. However, there are too many places that fit these characteristics to narrow it down. Lao Lu goes to the police station's Pigeon Unit to find Lin Shaobai and runs into Captain Zhang from the Criminal Investigation Team, who is trying to poach him. Lao Lu privately points out Lin Shaobai's shortcomings to Captain Zhang, who then loses interest. Lao Lu keeps Lin Shaobai in the Pigeon Unit to help him build character.

However, seeing that Lin Shaobai’s temperament hasn’t changed, Lao Lu decides to let him continue staying in the Pigeon Unit. Ignoring this, Lin Shaobai sneaks off to a pharmacy to check on isoprenaline tablets and traces it back to a motorcycle with the number 0229. Lin Shaobai runs to Room 2 to find Lao Lu, but Cen Xiaoman, diligent in her duties, refuses him entry. Upon learning that Lao Lu is out investigating in Hongkou and Gaoqiao, Lin Shaobai leaves.

Back in the Pigeon Unit, he secretly sends a message using the pigeons, signing it as Captain Zhang. The comrades in Hongkou receive the message and quickly notify Lao Lu, who rushes back to the station. However, when he inquires, he learns that the Criminal Investigation Team hasn’t discovered any significant leads regarding the kidnapping case. Realizing this message might have come from Lin Shaobai, he heads straight to the top floor to find him.

Lao Lu rejects Lin Shaobai’s request to join the task force but Lin Shaobai still shares crucial information with him. He manages to join the task force as a special liaison from the Pigeon Unit. His idea is to have Dai Yueqing assist with the investigation, leveraging the connections of the Gaoqiao gang.

They convince Dai Yueqing to become an informant, and she suggests that if they are worried, they could have the unfamiliar Cen Xiaoman keep an eye on her. After analysis by the team, Lao Lu decides to take a bold risk and let Dai Yueqing assist in the case. He emphasizes the need for strict confidentiality, as both the Gaoqiao gang and the agents are watching Dai Yueqing closely.

Berla receives a call from Liu Gui Hang, urging him to gather twenty boats as soon as possible. After hanging up, Berla instructs the zombie sparrow to inform the Eagle Squad to make sure those entrepreneurs send their merchant ships out to sea promptly. Xu Wei's methods are ruthless, and since Berla’s orders are not to cooperate, they should be disregarded. Seeing his fellow businessmen pressured, Old Jin tries to intervene, but Xu Wei pays no attention.

Gao Huaipu has another episode, and Xu Wei threatens him with medication, demanding that his people set sail within five days. Gao Huaipu, in great pain, reluctantly nods in agreement. Cen Xiaoman drives Dai Yueqing to her destination, and Dai Yueqing envies her youth and her job that no one dares to bully. Meanwhile, Dai Yueqing, raised in a boat family by Taihu Lake, has always relied on boats for her livelihood.
