Episode 24 recap: Clever Design Saves Everyone
In Episode 24, Dai Yue Qing requests to find a phone booth by the roadside to make a call. Cen Xiao Man stops the car to let her make the call. As Cen listens, she hears Dai say, “The general is mighty, and the second general is efficient,” leaving her confused. Once back in the car, Dai reveals her true intentions, snatching Cen's gun and ordering her to drive as a tram approaches.
Lao Lu quickly follows but loses track of them due to the tram's obstruction. He immediately makes a call, instructing Hu Zi to alert all stations to intercept the vehicle and to have the second division on standby in places Dai might appear, ready to capture her at a moment’s notice.
Back at the station, Hu Zi and his team report that Dai Yue Qing hasn’t returned to her residence, the dance hall, or the docks, nor has she gone to visit Tong Su Su’s foster mother. Lao Lu orders Lao Xu to retrieve all old files related to the hand hook gang. Without delay, Lao Xu heads to the archives, but Lao Chen from the archives deliberately withholds one file. Later, he pretends to deliver it to Lao Xu, positioning a photo of Dai Yue Qing prominently, surrounded by question marks on a map. He speculates that Dai Yue Qing escaped during her collaboration with the social department.
Lao Xu meets with Bo Lao and shares this crucial information, suggesting that Dai Yue Qing might have a son. He reminds Bo Lao that they could find out the son’s whereabouts through Qin Ye. Xu Wei approaches Qin Ye and stabs him multiple times, yet Qin remains unfazed, refusing to disclose the location of Dai Yue Qing’s son.
Seeing his boss unresponsive, one of Qin's subordinates reluctantly reveals that Tong Su Su is nearby. By then, Qin has already succumbed to his injuries. At the school, many are watching closely. Tong Su Su’s foster mother arrives, but Dai Yue Qing remains absent. Xu Wei arranges for a man and a woman to kidnap Tong Su Su, and gunfire erupts, causing chaos at the school entrance.
Lin Shao Bai and Lao Lu spring into action, shooting two spies, but Xiang Zi is injured in the process. Instead of looking for her son, Dai Yue Qing visits a warehouse to meet with a bearded man and some of her subordinates, instructing them to find a warehouse near the high bridge suitable for holding prisoners.
Dai Yue Qing briefly mentions her escape, attributing it to someone’s help, revealing that Cen Xiao Man is the granddaughter of that person and now her goddaughter. In private, she warns the bearded man to keep an eye on who in the gang might be leaking information, as following this person could lead them to Ying Huan.
Xiang Zi, being injured, blames Lin Shao Bai for the mishap. Wu Lao San, who has been tailing Dai Yue Qing’s vehicle, gets shot and cannot defend himself. Fearing for his life at the hands of Ying Huan, he refuses to disclose their location.
Cen Xiao Man reveals her identity as a police officer and persuades Wu Lao San, who ultimately reveals that Ying Huan is in Shanhuang Village near the high bridge. Dai Yue Qing keeps her promise but declines to return with Cen, stating there are matters still to address. Cen then reports to Lao Lu.
Later that night, Dai Yue Qing, accompanied by her brothers, turns herself in. She has not broken her word; instead, she tries to convince her brothers to accompany her to surrender.
Lao Lu assures her that the new government will handle and arrange everything properly for these individuals. After learning the location where the entrepreneurs are held, the bureau holds a meeting to discuss a rescue plan. Lin Shao Bai and Cen Xiao Man’s strategies receive approval, and Wu Lao San agrees to cooperate.
Wu Lao San’s lies are flawless, leaving Xu Wei unable to find any flaws, so he orders the transfer of the hostages. Having already hidden on a ship, Lao Lu and Lin Shao Bai coordinate with police officers outside, successfully rescuing all the entrepreneurs.
Jin Yan receives two phone calls: one from Shao Bai, informing her that they have saved her father, and the other from Liu Rui and Dr. Zhao, reporting that they found the source of the anthrax outbreak near the sugar factory. The police hold a press conference at the dock of the Maritime Bureau, where the rescued entrepreneurs publicly declare that they were kidnapped by spies, not the liberating army. Gao Huai announces loudly that they will unconditionally support the new government.
