Episode 27 recap: Shattering the Conspiracy to Ensure Safety
In Episode 27, as Xu Wei leaves, Liu Gui Hang orders Xiao Si to kill Lin Shaobai. Xiao Si knows he can't match Xu Wei's strength. Frustrated, Liu Gui Hang instructs him to sell off the remaining rice mixed with sand at a low price. Xu Wei reports to Bolao that Liu Gui Hang has been mixing sand into the rice provided by Jin Maochang to cover his tracks, while pocketing some of the rice for himself. Lin Shaobai follows this lead and uncovers their secret.
Bolao immediately orders Xu Wei to find someone to attach fuses to every incendiary bomb in the government supply warehouse and to ignite them before the new government is established. As for Lin Shaobai, Bolao instructs Xu Wei to eliminate him, bidding farewell to the past. Xu Wei agrees, but each step he takes feels as heavy as iron.
Meanwhile, agents disguised as coal union members enter the government supply warehouse under the pretense of celebrating the founding of the new government, quickly attaching fuses to every concealed incendiary bomb.
On the other side, Old Hu hands a note to Old Lu, ensuring that only they and Li Yaohong know about the plan. Old Lu orders immediate action to intercept and capture the departing agents. Bolao's goal is straightforward: to turn the government supply warehouse into a raging inferno, which will spread to the docks, turning Shanghai into a fiery hell.
Pigeon Dabaibi flies to the warehouse, where Lin Shaobai whistles to summon it. He writes down the words "Lao Tai Lake Factory, Changjiang Warehouse" and sends the message out. Xu Wei brings Lin Shaobai four big buns, and as always, Lin enjoys them. He returns a protective talisman he found to Xu Wei, but Xu Wei no longer believes in such things; he thinks self-reliance is better than relying on fate.
Lin Shaobai disagrees, leading to a heated argument. Their brotherhood has fractured due to differing worldviews. Lin points out that Xu Wei had many choices and that his wife and child were merely excuses for his pursuit of power. Regardless of Lin's arguments, Xu Wei remains steadfast, convinced that everything he does, including wanting to kill Lin Shaobai, is justified.
When Xu Wei pulls out his gun to kill Lin Shaobai, gunfire erupts outside. Lin reacts quickly, flipping over a table to knock the gun from Xu Wei's hands, turning former brothers into fierce enemies. They engage in a brutal struggle, with Xu Wei injuring Lin's head. Just as Xu Wei is about to finish him off, Old Lu crashes through the warehouse door, rescuing Lin. Xu Wei has already retreated upstairs, dropping explosives that turn the warehouse into a sea of flames.
Li Yaohong pushes Old Lu and Lin into the water, saving them. Before this, Old Lu had ordered the removal of all fuses from the incendiary bombs, ensuring that all supplies were well-protected. Pigeon Dabaibi risks its life to bring back the news, allowing Old Lu to lead a timely rescue for Shaobai. Lin buries Dabaibi in a dirty spot and salutes it along with Old Lu.
Meanwhile, Zheng Lanting meets Mao Sen on an island in Zhoushan. Mao does not blame Lanting for the mission's failure, as he too has been reassigned and holds a pessimistic view of the future. Zheng, however, believes there is still hope. During a meeting, it is noted that since their last successful mission, prices in Shanghai have stabilized, and the public can now afford cheaper rice and flour. Lao Huang's breakfast shop continues to thrive, offering much lower prices than before.
Li Yaohong has recovered and is discharged from the hospital, welcomed by everyone as a hero who saved the two "treasures" of the second office. Lin Shaobai is transferred back to the second office from the pigeon unit, feeling a pang of nostalgia. Jin Lao returns to the office, suspicious that Bolao has planted a mole among them.
