Episode 32 recap: Flight Taken Hostage

In this episode, Lao Huang opens a breakfast shop, which Berla whimsically names "Good Times." However, Lao Huang's wife is suspicious, fearing there might be something hidden behind the name. Interestingly, while dealing with Lu Zhengyang, Berla detects a unique fragrance on him—a scent popular in the Soviet Union, suggesting he frequently interacts with someone who wears it.

Soon after, Xu Wei returns with news that he saw Lu Zhengyang come out of Gate 1899. This further convinces Berla that the location is likely a hiding place for the air defense command center, prompting him to send a telegram to T Bay.

Meanwhile, Lu Zhengyang is interrogating a man named Chen Rushan, who is actually Du Lengquan. Four years ago, Du Lengquan got close to Chen Rushan and became his trusted aide, only to later betray him and assume his identity. Despite having family in Hong Kong, Du seems indifferent to their safety. He even accuses Lu Zhengyang of failing to rescue the Wen couple in time, which strikes a deep chord with Lu. He later sits alone at the explosion site on Fuzhou Road, consumed by his thoughts.

Lin Shaobai predicts Lu's whereabouts and goes to offer him some comfort, providing detailed information about Du Lengquan.

On Berla's end, they have sent out the location information about the command center and are now awaiting further news. Vice Director Yang becomes anxious upon hearing this and orders an urgent investigation into Berla’s true identity.

Once Lu Zhengyang regains his composure, he returns to his team, restoring their confidence. Du Lengquan, stubborn as ever, continues to provoke Lu by bringing up the Wen couple and the Fuzhou Road incident, hoping to make him feel guilty. However, Lu is not easily swayed; he counters by revealing Du's true nature, highlighting Chen Rushan's heroic sacrifice to protect Du during their escape.

It turns out that Chen Rushan was forced to jump from a building by the Japanese, breaking his leg, while Du Lengquan fled. Despite being criticized by their comrades, Chen still defended Du, complicating Du’s feelings toward him—both resentment and respect.

Lu Zhengyang skillfully exploits these complex emotions, gradually breaking down Du Lengquan's psychological defenses. Eventually, Du cannot withstand the pressure and admits that Berla is actually Zheng Lanting, the Shanghai station chief that the Public Security Bureau has been desperately searching for.

Lu Zhengyang quickly leads his team to the Lanting Art Studio, just as Zheng Lanting hangs up the phone, realizing he has been exposed. In a desperate move, Zheng takes Feihang hostage and threatens that there are explosives in the studio that will reduce the surrounding area to ruins if detonated.

Upon hearing about the bomb, the crowd panics and scatters. Just as Lu is feeling desperate, Vice Director Yang arrives and instructs him to comply with Zheng Lanting’s demands.

Before leaving, Zheng insists that Lu cut the blue wire to defuse the situation after he departs. However, with someone like Zheng, who would dare to trust him? Yet, given the urgency, Lu has no choice but to take the risk. In the end, they successfully rescue the hostage and avert a greater disaster, while Zheng Lanting finally falls into the hands of the law.
