Episode 9 recap: Xu Yi Nian was identified as a synthetic human, and Cheng Nuo was supposed to help An Qiu destroy the evidence.
Cheng Nuo asked Sun Yao where Xu Yi Nian had gone, and Sun Yao said that she had asked her to leave and never come back. However, just then, Xu Yi Nian returned because she saw that the people from Mingmou were looking for Sun Yao, and she didn't want Sun Yao to be implicated because of her.
Xu Yi Nian was taken back to Mingmou, and the assessment of her being a synthetic human was about to be conducted. As part of the standard procedure, the investigator needed to sign a document, but Cheng Nuo refused to sign. An Qiu then took the pen and signed her own name. As the medication was injected into Xu Yi Nian's neck, her pupils changed color.
It was now undeniable that Xu Yi Nian was a synthetic human. Cheng Nuo walked out feeling frustrated and unexpectedly saw Zhou Chen interrogating Sun Yao. He was puzzled as to why Sun Yao was there, and Zhou Chen replied that Sun Yao had turned herself in.
Cheng Nuo requested to talk to Sun Yao alone, but Zhou Chen was unhappy with him interfering in his case. An Qiu came over and asked Zhou Chen to wrap up the case, basically giving all the credit to Zhou Chen. Reluctantly, Zhou Chen agreed to give Cheng Nuo three minutes.
Cheng Nuo asked Sun Yao why she did this, and Sun Yao said she wanted to be with Xu Yi Nian, as that was the only way they wouldn't be separated. But Cheng Nuo knew it was futile, as not only could they not be together, but he would also ruin his own future.
However, Sun Yao said she had no regrets. Xu Yi Nian was about to be sent away, and Cheng Nuo suggested arranging a meeting between her and Sun Yao. Xu Yi Nian thought for a moment but declined, knowing that there was no future between her and Sun Yao. Why give him false hope? Upon realizing that she would never see Xu Yi Nian again, Sun Yao broke down emotionally and angrily questioned Cheng Nuo, who was left speechless.
An Qiu, aware of Cheng Nuo's troubled state, accompanied him for a drink and tried to persuade him not to blame himself too much. Suddenly, Cheng Nuo lost control of his emotions and blurted out that he had once killed a synthetic human. An Qiu's heart sank upon hearing this.
A Mr. Gao was looking for Cheng Nuo at the front desk. Cheng Nuo hurriedly came out and saw that Zhou Chen was already entertaining Mr. Gao, claiming that he and Cheng Nuo were good colleagues and that whatever he gave to himself was the same for Cheng Nuo. Cheng Nuo quickly interrupted their conversation and unceremoniously took back the video that Zhou Chen had obtained. It turned out that Mr. Gao was the owner of the car parked in the underground garage on the day Yin Tian Hong escaped from the hospital. Cheng Nuo received the video exported from the car's black box by Mr. Gao and quickly played it on the computer, while An Qiu was busy with other colleagues nearby.
In the video, An Qiu was forced by Yin Tian Hong to the back of the car, and an identification agent was injected into An Qiu's neck, causing her pupils to change color. Cheng Nuo quickly closed the computer just as Zhou Chen came in wanting to see the video. Cheng Nuo took out a USB drive and headed to the restroom. He destroyed the USB drive, but Zhou Chen followed closely behind. When he saw Cheng Nuo destroying the evidence, he arrogantly claimed that Cheng Nuo must be protecting someone.
Cheng Nuo ignored him and returned to the office, pulling An Qiu to leave Mingmou Institute quickly. An Qiu sat in the car, noticing Cheng Nuo's unusual emotions and not knowing what he was planning to do. Cheng Nuo revealed his thoughts to An Qiu and told her that he already knew her true identity. However, now he wanted to protect her. An Qiu asked him to park in the slum area and assured him that she wouldn't leave because she had no memories of the past and didn't know her own initial purpose. She had no idea where to go. Cheng Nuo saw her entering a messy and dilapidated house, and suddenly, An Qiu's memories returned. She and her brother lived there and were captured during a raid, and her brother An Yang was killed during that operation.
Cheng Nuo didn't want to stay, but An Qiu told him not to evade and to acknowledge what he had done. Cheng Nuo reluctantly revealed that he had killed a synthetic human here. During the raid, a synthetic human was seriously injured, which caused a riot among the other synthetic humans. In the process of trying to stop them, Cheng Nuo accidentally killed An Yang. However, he didn't know the relationship between An Yang and An Qiu, nor did he expect An Qiu to forgive him. Now he just wanted to protect An Qiu and help her escape because she was different from other synthetic humans and was important to him.
Just then, Yin Tian Hong, whom he had been searching for, walked out.
