Episode 20 recap: Zhong Wei plans to take an indirect approach to save the country.
Zhong Wei happened to come by and immediately noticed that Chen Mi Ren had sent a "good person card" to Qin Meng Xuan. Cao Jia Er had gone abroad, and Zhong Wei was delighted. He wanted to reestablish Chen Mi Ren's friendship with Qin Meng Xuan, but Chen Mi Ren did not agree.
Zhong Wei believed that they should approach the situation through Chen Mi Ren's roommate, taking an indirect route to save the country. Zhao Gu received a message from Hadis, who stated that he was currently busy. Zhao Gu's father called him and explained that since Zhao Gu was studying abroad and wouldn't be coming back for a while, he had turned Zhao Gu's room into a study for his younger brother.
Zhao Gu was furious and asked his father about his own books. Zhao Gu's father revealed that he had already sold those books. Zhao Gu questioned how his father could touch his books, expressing that he had bought them with his parents' money and how they couldn't just be disposed of as worthless items. He reminded his father of the significant amount of money they had spent on books, which were now being sold as scrap with little value.
Infuriated, Zhao Gu hung up the phone. Today was Zhao Gu's birthday, and Xu Miao Miao and the others were preparing to throw a birthday party for him. Xu Miao Miao was responsible for bringing Zhao Gu back and informed him that their dormitory had been flooded due to a leak. She had already reported the issue, but the repair would only be done the next day, so she urged Zhao Gu to return quickly.
However, halfway there, Xu Miao Miao received news that Chen Mi Ren hadn't returned with the cake yet, and asked Xu Miao Miao and the others to come back later. Xu Miao Miao quickly tried to come up with excuses to delay, but Zhao Gu believed that a flooded dormitory was a serious matter and didn't listen to Xu Miao Miao's reasoning, continuing on his way back.
Zhong Wei discovered that Zhao Gu's boyfriend, Hadis, was a sea king and shared this information with Chen Mi Ren, hoping to start over with her. However, Chen Mi Ren didn't pay attention to Zhong Wei's words and believed that this information should be shared with Zhao Gu, suggesting that Zhao Gu should start over.
Chen Mi Ren came back and put down the cake, saying it was meant to be a surprise for Zhao Gu. Zhao Gu remarked that it was the least surprising surprise he had ever seen, but also the happiest birthday he had ever experienced. Everyone sang "Happy Birthday" to Zhao Gu, and he made a wish before cutting the cake.
Chen Mi Ren told Zhao Gu about Hadis, but Zhao Gu expressed that he didn't really care about him. He explained that he wasn't particularly fond of Hadis in the first place and was only interested in him because Hadis could provide him with an opportunity to study abroad. Xu Miao Miao and the others couldn't quite understand Zhao Gu's perspective and believed that he shouldn't sacrifice his emotions for the sake of going abroad.
Zhao Gu argued that they all had the love and support of their parents, who had prepared their future lives for them. However, he didn't have anything. He had to earn his own tuition and living expenses in college, and how to make tomorrow better than today was something he had to consider every day. They didn't know his situation, so they couldn't tell him what to do.
Zhao Gu went outside and sat on a bench. Chen Mi Ren and the others came over to apologize and brought a cake. Zhao Gu realized that he had overreacted earlier, and Chen Mi Ren and the others had prepared gifts for him. Xu Miao Miao handed out flyers to everyone, announcing that she had joined the drama club and invited them to come watch her performance that evening.
Zhong Wei informed Chen Mi Ren about Bao Jia Guo, the author of the novel that Xu Miao Miao liked, and mentioned that Bao Jia Guo planned to confess his feelings to Xu Miao Miao. Bao Jia Guo sent flowers to Xu Miao Miao and set up a romantic scene outside.
Xu Miao Miao was thrilled to receive the flowers and Chen Mi Ren told her about Bao Jia Guo being the author of the novel she liked, thinking it was a good thing.
However, Xu Miao Miao didn't feel the same way. She remembered how Bao Jia Guo had been hot and cold towards her before and thought that his kindness was merely for the sake of gathering material for his novel.
