Episode 4 recap: Yan Si Fang's background
Meng San Xi wanted to enter the boutique to buy a top-quality tent. The snobbish shop assistant at the door looked down on people. Meng San Xi immediately pulled out a handful of silver bills, silencing the shop assistant and smoothly entering the store. Inside, he saw the beautiful Gu Nianjiu and thought that Bei Xiao Hai had indeed not deceived him. The girls here were stunning. Meng San Xi boldly purchased the outrageously priced tent and, upon hearing Gu Nianjiu suggest he look at other items, couldn't help but feel delighted.
Yan Si Fang took out a large sum of money and bought a luxurious clothing and horse set. Just as he finished tidying himself up and hadn't even left the city, he was recognized by the housekeeper. Yan Si Fang was quite puzzled because even he could hardly recognize himself in his current attire. How did the housekeeper see through his disguise? The housekeeper pointed out the difference in Yan Si Fang's shoes, which made Yan Si Fang deeply regretful for not being more thorough. The housekeeper directly confronted Yan Si Fang and accurately revealed his plan. It seemed that Yan Si Fang intended to leave through the city gate and escape on a fast horse. The housekeeper directly reminded Yan Si Fang that he also had a horse, rendering Yan Si Fang's plan futile. Not to mention outrunning him, Yan Si Fang wouldn't be able to handle the people intercepting him at the city gate. The housekeeper's sole intention on this journey was to find Ye Wu Zhi, so he closely followed Yan Si Fang to gather clues. After all, in the housekeeper's view, Yan Si Fang was Ye Wu Zhi's cousin once removed.
Meng San Xi was walking down the street, pulling a cart full of vegetables, when he caught the attention of a steward. Meng San Xi handed the steward a silver ticket, indicating that he should ignore him, but the steward didn't understand Meng San Xi's intention. Instead, he claimed that he had seen unattended carts on the street moving by themselves, so he followed out of curiosity. Unable to deal with him, Meng San Xi realized that the steward wanted to find Ye Wu Zhi, so he climbed onto the cart without hesitation and asked the steward to pull it for him.
Ye Wu Zhi finally managed to find someone from the housing office and inquired about clues to San Qi Dao. To her surprise, she learned that all the clues, whether overt or covert, within the Mu Yun City were controlled by someone. To buy a clue, she would need to pay a deposit of fifty taels of silver, and after the task was completed, she would have to pay another one hundred taels as the remaining payment. However, the assistant only earned two taels per month, and although she desired revenge, she couldn't come up with the money.
Before Ye Wu Zhi could even settle on a place to stay, she was found by someone. She initially wanted to draw her sword and subdue the person, but it was forbidden to take action in Mu Yun City without proper cause. Ye Wu Zhi heeded the advice, sheathed her sword, and quickly ran away. The pursuer continued to chase her through several streets, and more people joined in behind him. Ye Wu Zhi ran to a place outside a school where an exam was being held. The entrance was guarded by officials who prohibited noise. The people chasing Ye Wu Zhi were stopped, and just as Ye Wu Zhi was feeling pleased with herself, Yan Si Fang and the steward arrived, blocking the path ahead.
Before long, Meng San Xi's vegetable cart also entered the alley, and the three of them, who had only been apart for a short time, were reunited. They couldn't help but marvel at the fate that brought them together so quickly. Meng San Xi took out three radishes, giving one to each of them, as if they were sharing a meal. However, as soon as he took a bite, he realized that the radish was extremely spicy and quickly spat it out, causing Yan Si Fang and Ye Wu Zhi to burst into laughter.
In the evening, Yan Si Fang, Meng San Xi, and Ye Wu Zhi gathered around a stove, cooking food. The aroma of the food tantalized the pursuers, who could only eat dry biscuits, making them even hungrier. At that moment, the stove started emitting thick smoke. Meng San Xi shouted, "Fire!" and used the opportunity to escape with Ye Wu Zhi and Yan Si Fang. Yan Si Fang was responsible for pushing the vegetable cart while running, and Meng San Xi threw vegetables from the cart, leaving a trail of clues for the assassins to follow.
Yan Si Fang's original plan was to escape to Mu Feng City in a carriage equipped with a tent, and then let the carriage continue to another city while the three of them quietly returned to Mu Yun City. This way, they would divert the attention of the pursuers, who would never suspect that they would still be in Mu Yun City. A member of the San Qi Dao sect was assigned to protect Meng San Xi and prevent anyone from seeing through their plan. He noticed that Meng San Xi had lost all his internal strength, so he decided to wait until Meng San Xi recovered before engaging in a battle. At Yan Si Fang's request, he agreed to drive the carriage and lure the assassins away, but only if they paid him in silver. In order to shake off these people, Meng San Xi quickly took out all the silver tickets he had on him. However, the other person apparently believed that he was hiding more silver tickets and, in order to prove his innocence, Meng San Xi loosened his clothes and let the person see that he really had no more silver tickets.
Yan Si Fang's purpose in coming to Mu Yun City was to find the swindler who had deceived the village chief. Thinking back to his childhood in the village, Yan Si Fang's emotions were complex. The village chief had refused to let the young people leave, which led to arranged marriages and the birth of children. They had believed that becoming parents would tie them down, but it resulted in tragedy instead. He and the other children left behind in the village were abandoned by their parents.
