Episode 9 recap: Ji Ming Zhao Leads People into the Bathhouse for Construction
Four years ago, Meng San Xi and Bei Xiao Hai pursued Sha Dao together. In the process, they lost their way in the desert. When Nan Xiao Tian discovered this, he immediately turned back, but they got lost again. Fortunately, after they turned back once more, they found a bonfire in the sand, which gave them the confidence to keep going.
Just as Bei Xiao Hai convinced Meng San Xi to have faith and keep going, Bei Xiao Hai collapsed. Meng San Xi reluctantly dragged Bei Xiao Hai along, and when he became too exhausted to continue, Bei Xiao Hai crawled up and pulled him forward. They supported each other along the way until they finally saw a small oasis in the desert. Without hesitation, they rushed over to drink water.
After Bei Xiao Hai drank some water, he noticed Sha Dao lying beside the oasis. He quickly pulled Meng San Xi, who was drinking excessively, and slapped him awake, warning him not to drink like that, or he would suffer from water poisoning like Sha Dao. Meng San Xi suppressed his desire to drink water and spoke to Bei Xiao Hai, asking about his real name and hometown. Bei Xiao Hai felt no sense of belonging and even preferred to die in the desert rather than return to his hometown. At this moment, Meng San Xi remembered his sect and missed his senior martial siblings. He was someone who had a sense of belonging, but after Bei Xiao Hai was killed, that sense of belonging disappeared, and he became a carefree person.
In the design plans for the Liu Family Bathhouse, there were no details related to Meng San Xi's sect. Perhaps Meng San Xi no longer longed for his sect. In order to prevent the leakage of the blueprints, Liu Yun Zong only brought his servants for construction and left everything to Ji Ming Zhao to arrange. Meng San Xi, Ye Wu Zhi, and Yan Si Fang thought it was acceptable, but Ji Ming Zhao immediately sensed the deeper meaning behind Liu Yun Zong's actions. It was a test of their skills. If they could meet the requirements of today's project, they would be entrusted to complete the construction of the bathhouse. If they couldn't meet the requirements, Liu Yun Zong would certainly not keep them.
Ji Ming Zhao assigned tasks to everyone. Ye Wu Zhi was responsible for the work in the Qingjing Sect, Meng San Xi was in charge of building the side gate, Yan Si Fang was tasked with making six chairs, and Ji Ming Zhao was responsible for the furnishings in the reception room. At that moment, Dai Meng Hui was in the reception room, lying on the ground without any image, reaching out to take the pastries specially brought by Liu Yun Gui for Ji Ming Zhao. He lamented about his miserable life, where he had to work three jobs every day. He had reached a point where he couldn't even distinguish the taste of mung bean cakes and pear cakes. He finished a plate of mung bean cakes and when Ji Ming Zhao arrived, there was only the empty plate left.
Ji Ming Zhao boasted in front of the staff, claiming that she could handle the display in the reception room. In reality, she had no sense of aesthetics. She attempted to persuade Liu Yun Zong and Dai Meng Hui to help using motivational tactics. However, they were well aware of their lack of aesthetic sense since childhood and had no interest in participating. Ji Ming Zhao had to try harder to convince them, and eventually, they reluctantly agreed. However, they had a condition: if the work turned out well, it should be known that they had participated, but if it didn't, it should be as if they had never been there.
Meng San Xi gathered the servants responsible for building the side gate. The original plan was to follow the design, but since no one had seen a dragon before, the only one with some ideas was the carpenter. This caused him a lot of headaches. So he had everyone separate into groups of stonemasons and carpenters. Learning about their different apprenticeship experiences, he allowed each person to showcase their expertise and assigned each of them a small section of the side gate to work on, based on their respective styles. This way, it would align with Liu Yun Zong's preference for a martial arts atmosphere.
Ye Wu Zhi tried to recreate the feeling of the sect based on his memory. After the bamboo pathway was laid, he felt that it lacked a sense of history. After all, everything was newly made and couldn't compare to the 120 years of history that Qingqingjing Sect had. Yan Si Fang was responsible for making the stools. He first made a sample and then had the servants replicate it. However, everyone had different skills, and one of the stools even fell apart with a single touch. Yan Si Fang found this to be too exaggerated, so he decided to utilize everyone's strengths. He assigned them to different parts and then assembled them together, ensuring that everything was properly arranged.
Just as Yan Si Fang sat down and breathed a sigh of relief, he smelled a familiar aroma. He followed the scent to the kitchen and discovered that Feng Ren Yuan was in charge of the meals. He couldn't help but feel disappointed when he learned that Feng Ren Yuan wanted to intentionally delay the project to make more money. He immediately rejected the idea without hesitation, especially since he found the food at Feng Ren Yuan to be unbearable and would rather not eat it at all. Ji Ming Zhao, Dai Meng Hui, and Liu Yun Gui worked on the sword wall, but the result was unsatisfactory. No one could bear to look at it, so they advised Ji Ming Zhao to redesign it.
