Episode 14 recap: Ye Liu Xi and Chang Dong went to probe Ye Liu Xi's enemies.
Ye Liu Xi and Chang Dong arrived here. Chang Dong handed a mask to Hei and asked him to wear it, as there might be people in the pass who recognize Ye Liu Xi and hold a grudge against him. The waiter informed Ye Liu Xi that they should not wander around freely after 11 o'clock. Lao Li mentioned that their family is skilled in shadow puppetry.
Fei Tang and the others have already discussed and decided that they should proceed to the pass. After all, they have come this far and shouldn't return empty-handed. Ye Liu Xi glanced at Chang Dong, who expressed his willingness to accompany them, which made Ye Liu Xi smile. Chang Dong checked the car and asked Fei Tang to bring some fabric from inside to repair the tires. Fei Tang wanted Lao Qian and the others to help, but Ye Liu Xi did not agree.
Ye Liu Xi instructed Fei Tang to pack up their belongings and load them into the car, taking everything useful from A He and the others' luggage. Fei Tang felt that it might not be right to do so, as they wouldn't be able to survive here without supplies. Ye Liu Xi stated that when A He and the others left them outside, they didn't care if they could survive, so they don't need to worry about them either. Everyone should rely on their own efforts. When Fei Tang was moving the rice, he happened to see Chang Dong and wanted him to persuade Ye Liu Xi. Chang Dong pointed out that Ye Liu Xi wasn't watching the whole time when Fei Tang was moving things, so if Fei Tang missed something, Ye Liu Xi wouldn't know. Fei Tang understood immediately and secretly called A He over to leave a bag of rice for them to quickly move into the cellar. Ding Liu and the others noticed this and thought Fei Tang was too soft-hearted. Ye Liu Xi asked Fei Tang to take A He and the others to separate places and have them draw a map, marking dangerous areas nearby. Someone would come to take them to the hotel at night. It would be dangerous to be in other places at night, and even in the hotel, safety couldn't be guaranteed.
Chang Dong and the others couldn't find Honghua Tree, which worried them, but fortunately, they eventually found it. Lao Li was waiting there and led them to the hotel's entrance following the flowing light of the Honghua Tree. Ye Liu Xi and Chang Dong arrived at the hotel, and Chang Dong gave Ye Liu Xi a mask to wear. He suggested that there might be people who recognized Ye Liu Xi and held grudges against him in the city. Ye Liu Xi put on the mask.
The staff informed Ye Liu Xi that it wasn't safe to wander around after 11 PM. Accommodation could be paid for with goods, and Chang Dong had brought a lot of supplies from outside to cover the room fees. Chang Dong advised everyone to go to the bathhouse together and not to be alone. Chang Dong noticed some strange things in the bathroom and asked Gao Shen about it, but Gao Shen didn't notice anything unusual.
Lao Li was a shadow puppet performer and asked the staff if he could give a shadow puppet show, saying they didn't have much money. The staff refused. Ding Liu called Lao Li over and had him perform a shadow puppet show, during which Lao Li performed a summoning ritual and told them the story of "Jue Yao Gui Yu Yu Men." Lao Li mentioned that his family had the ability to manipulate shadow puppets, but they didn't have any remarkable skills handed down through the generations, so they didn't have much power now.
