Episode 16 recap: Fang Li kills Zhou Bingde.
Chen Ke Hai specifically arranges for Luo Bing to stay in a hotel. Seeing that Luo Bing has no money, he proposes to give her his own money and remarks that each of their encounters is filled with drama, as if it were all planned. Luo Bing senses Chen Ke Hai's suspicion towards her but accepts his money without refusing.
Fang Li intimidates Tian Liu, believing that she won't bother Chen Ke Hai anymore. Liu Yuandong returns home and sees Chen Ke Hai but doesn't turn back and goes home. Mr. Zhu is executed by firing squad, and Zhu Peiqi scolds Fang Li as a traitor. Fang Li opens the car door and invites Zhu Peiqi to go to the execution site together. Chen Ke Hai intervenes and pulls her away, instructing her to leave Shanghai. However, Zhu Peiqi does not appreciate the gesture.
Tian Liu is expelled from school due to Fang Li's intimidation, and her classmates drive her away. Chen Ke Hai sees this and picks up her luggage and gives her living expenses. Tian Liu says she'll take anyone's money except his because she likes him. Tian Liu leaves. Fang Li executes Mr. Zhu on charges of being a communist, and outsiders can tell it's for wealth, but they dare not say it openly. Fang Li claims it is also a job for the Japanese.
Next week, Mr. Wang is coming to Shanghai to give a speech, and Fang Li can be in charge of security. It's a coveted job, and Fang Li hopes to turn a blind eye to the wealthy businessmen in Shanghai through this opportunity. Chen Ke Hai deliberately learns from his subordinates that Liu Yuandong and his group were arrested for anti-Japanese activities and rescues Liu Yuandong before they are handed over to the military police.
Meanwhile, Luo Bing's uncle and aunt are used as scapegoats and executed as communists. Chen Ke Hai waits for Luo Bing at the hotel and learns that she provides massage services to earn a living. He lies that Luo Bing's uncle and aunt have been sent to a distant place to do labor and conceals their deaths. He tests Luo Bing by suggesting that she seek help from Fang Li, but Luo Bing says they only have a casual acquaintance.
Fang Li gives Chen Ke Hai a share of the profits from robbing the Zhu family, and Fang Li learns from Lao Jin that Luo Bing is with him. He insults Luo Bing again, and Chen Ke Hai deliberately sends her away with the money. Fang Li advises him not to be stubborn, or he will regret it.
Fang Li tells Chen Ke Hai that Wang Jingwei will come to Shanghai next week to give a speech, and Fang Li is in charge of security while Chen Ke Hai is responsible for flattery. Their future lies in Chen Ke Hai's hands. While reporting the security plan to Team 76, Fang Li concurrently carries out an assassination mission assigned by the Military Statistics Bureau. If they are unfortunate enough to be captured, he won't give the Military Statistics Bureau a chance to talk.
Director Li thought that Fang Li's deployment was very thorough. Director Li instructed Xing Han Zhu to investigate the identity of the female college student around him. Gao Mu personally welcomed Wang Jingwei, but to his surprise, the person getting off the train was Special Envoy Zhou. Due to his poor health, Wang Jingwei arranged for him to come and give a speech.
Zhou Bing De noticed that Fang Li looked familiar, and Fang Li knew that many years ago his graduation mission was to assassinate Zhou Bing De, but he failed and defected to 76th Unit. Fang Li deliberately mentioned a sense of familiarity with Special Envoy Zhou. When Zhou Bing De arrived at the scene, the Military Statistics personnel began to carry out the assassination mission. Among the female classmates who came to offer flowers was Zhu Pei Qi, who shot and killed Fang Li directly. Chen Ke Hai noticed and took a bullet for him. The Military Statistics personnel failed to kill Zhou Bing De but only injured him. Fang Li brought Zhou Bing De to a safe house and told him that he was lucky to be alive. Otherwise, he would have died two years ago. Fang Li brought up the Xia Fei Road incident, but Zhou Bing De didn't appreciate it, saying that he hadn't improved in killing people and couldn't protect others either.
Fang Li took out a gun and told him that only when he died would Director Wang know that his double had not been in vain, and Fang Li's own career would soar because of his death. After killing Zhou Bing De, Fang Li revealed Xie Zi Feng. Xing Han Zhu questioned Chen Ke Hai about his simultaneous action with Zhu Pei Qi when he took the bullet. Was there a premonition? If I remember correctly, Xing Han Zhu was in charge of verifying the identity of the female student. How could he bring a gun into the scene?
Fang Li asked Xie Zi Feng why Zhu Pei Qi was allowed to go on stage and present flowers. Was it because Xie Zi Feng had something on her? Xie Zi Feng stated that Zhu Pei Qi promised only to go on stage and disclose information, and afterwards, he established a relationship with Kong Fang. In order not to be killed, Xie Zi Feng was willing to testify for Fang Li. Fang Li received the news of Zhou Bing De's death, as the bullet had hit his major artery. Previously, his classmates had sacrificed themselves to assassinate Zhou Bing De, and now they could rest in peace. Chen Ke Hai suspected that Zhou Bing De's death was related to Fang Li.
Luo Bing went to the hospital because of a message from Lao Jin. Fang Li instructed Lao Jin to continue informing Li Tang to facilitate Luo Bing's quick move into Chen Ke Hai's house. Lao Jin felt that this was the second time Chen Ke Hai had taken a bullet for him, and he felt that Fang Li was somewhat ungrateful. Fang Li explained that it was because Chen Ke Hai was his brother, and he couldn't allow him to make mistakes.
Xie Zi Feng was dissatisfied with Fang Li's blackmail. He informed Xing Han Zhu about the incident of Zhou Bing De's murder and proposed directly reporting it to the Japanese.
