Episode 23 recap: Luo Bing adopts a child.

The child falls ill with a fever, and Chen Ke Hai suggests wrapping the baby in blankets to induce sweating, which should help. As he goes to get a blanket, Tian Liu arrives and skillfully takes the child in her arms, instructing them to get a fan and cold towels. She decides to use physical cooling methods, and the child eventually falls asleep, the fever subsiding. Chen Ke Hai hurries to buy fever-reducing medicine the next day, concerned about a recurrence.

The following day, Li Tang tells Chen Ke Hai that he has found a couple who are bank employees and willing to adopt a boy. Chen Ke Hai learns that they will be taking the child away today, so he leads the couple back home. Luo Bing, following the advice of the wet nurse, decides to knit a scarf for the child. Tian Liu is not impressed with her knitting skills and takes the initiative to knit a scarf for the child herself. They start chatting, and Tian Liu shares that she lost her mother when she was young and ended up taking care of her younger siblings while her father married several stepmothers, with her mother becoming an unpaid nanny.

The couple likes the child upon seeing him, but Luo Bing's displeasure shows. She is reluctant to part with the child but can't resist their arrangement. However, when she learns that the couple has an asthmatic daughter, she decisively rejects them, pointing out the obvious cat hair on their clothes and questioning why a family with an asthmatic daughter would keep a cat.

Chen Ke Hai believes that Fang Li will spare the child, as killing the child would mean going to great lengths regardless of the location. Luo Bing insists on adopting the child and uses the excuse of not wanting to part with the child to reject Li Tang's request. Li Tang had gone through great efforts to arrange for the couple to adopt the baby but was stopped in his tracks. He regrets his decision and vows never to interfere in such matters again. Fang Li thinks that as long as they haven't uncovered any clues, they can't send the child away.

To celebrate the child staying with them, Luo Bing, Chen Ke Hai, and Tian Liu have a hot pot meal together. Tian Liu asks about their plans for adopting the child and suggests considering education and background in advance. When Luo Bing wakes up, she finds that the curtains have been replaced with red ones. Tian Liu explains that she had the old ones cleaned. Luo Bing hurriedly takes down the curtains, with Chen Ke Hai also helping. Meanwhile, Fang Li receives the information about the red curtains and quickly leaves with Lao Jin.

At that moment, Fang Li arrives at Chen Ke Hai's home with Lao Jin and some people from No. 76. Chen Ke Hai carries the child downstairs, followed quietly by Tian Liu. As they descend, Tian Liu casually comments on how nice the red curtains look, much better than the previous dull ones. Pretending to be surprised, Tian Liu asks Fang Li why he's here. Chen Ke Hai questions why he brought so many people so early in the morning. Fang Li lies, saying they came to congratulate him on adopting the child.

Chen Ke Hai uses the excuse of the child being young to send everyone away. Seeing that Tian Liu is just staying temporarily, Fang Li suggests she stays at his house. Tian Liu is reluctant, but Luo Bing agrees with Tian Liu staying there. Fang Li glares at Luo Bing, and she goes back inside with the child in her arms.

Fang Li leaves with Tian Liu, and Chen Ke Hai believes that this actually makes Tian Liu safer. Fang Li wouldn't let anything happen to her in his own house.

Luo Bing feared that Tian Liu wouldn't understand his efforts. Fang Li brought her clothes and accused her of being a clothes seller. He allowed her to stay for one night and promised to find her an apartment to move out.

Fang Li insisted that she either return to Chen's house or stay there; he wouldn't let her go elsewhere. Lao Duan informed Chen Ke Hai that the medicines had been successfully delivered to the frontlines. Chen Ke Hai shared the current situation with No. 76, stating that Ying Zuo might be transferred out of Shanghai, and the people behind him might be eager to make achievements, indicating possible actions.

Fang Li, invited by Li Liqun, met Kawabata Hiroshi, who was responsible for defense work in Shanghai. Nai Mei, who was with him, fell in love with Fang Li at first sight. Nai Mei's brother asked her to wander around the yard while Li Liqun actively requested Fang Li's company. Fang Li guessed their intentions and deliberately acted frivolous in front of Nai Mei. Embarrassed, Nai Mei turned her head away and asked about Fang Li's hobbies. He intentionally belittled himself, saying he often went to brothels and that he didn't like boring girls. Before entering the house, he hoped Nai Mei would cooperate with his act and admit to Kawabata that she didn't like Fang Li. Just as they reached the entrance, a waiter accidentally almost scalded Nai Mei with hot water. Fang Li instinctively protected Nai Mei but ended up getting burned himself.

He politely declined Kawabata's kindness, and Li Liqun mistakenly thought that Fang Li still had Shen Qiu Ping on his mind and reminded him not to forget how she died. Nai Mei was immersed in the incident where Fang Li heroically saved her during the daytime, while Kawabata advised her that if she didn't like Fang Li, he would give up his influence over Fang Li.

Nai Mei expressed her willingness, and to further understand Fang Li, Kawabata planned to hold a family gathering and invited Fang Li to join. Fang Li had a fever and held Tian Liu's hand while calling out Shen Qiu Ping's name. She gently applied burn ointment to his injury. Nai Mei came to deliver an invitation, and Tian Liu warmly welcomed her. Using the excuse of the Chen family meeting, Fang Li asked Tian Liu to act as his girlfriend and lied that he had a date with her on Saturday. Nai Mei left heartbroken.
