Episode 5 recap: Chen Ke Hai returned to Shanghai.
Chen Ke Hai arrived in Shanghai and met Fang Li. He asked Fang Li about the assassination of Zhou Bing De back then. Fang Li explained that the operation's plan was leaked, leading to an ambush, and Shen Qiuping sacrificed herself on the spot. Instructor Jin, suspicious of Chen Ke Hai's identity, captured a woman and interrogated her, hoping to gather valuable information from her. However, the information she provided held no value for Instructor Jin. Fang Li promised Chen Ke Hai that he would make him the second prominent figure in Shanghai.
Fang Li and Li Tang followed the clues and arrived at a casino to find Yuan Qing Yun. When they saw the person in charge, his expression changed, and he called him the King of Hell. Fang Li and Li Tang still managed to meet Yuan Qing Yun and entered his office without beating around the bush. They demanded that he deliver the child to Unit 76 within two days, and they also requested that the human trafficker be killed, with the body taken away that day. Yuan Qing Yun claimed that this person was his pet dog and then handed him a gun, instructing him to kill Fang Li. This person was none other than Chen Ke Hai. Instead of attacking Fang Li and Li Tang, Chen Ke Hai aimed his gun at Yuan Qing Yun. Chen Ke Hai was knocked unconscious, and after Fang Li and the others explained everything, they took Chen Ke Hai to the hospital. Several days later, Chen Ke Hai still hadn't woken up, so Fang Li specially prepared several boxes of chestnut cakes to try to entice him awake. As soon as they arrived at the hospital, Chen Ke Hai regained consciousness. Chen Ke Hai and Fang Li silently ate the chestnut cakes, and finally, Chen Ke Hai spoke, asking about the truth from three years ago. Three years ago, someone leaked the operational plan, and subsequently, Shen Qiu Ping was arrested and sacrificed. Chen Ke Hai was filled with grief, and as for Fang Li's betrayal, he didn't want to say much. Everyone has their own way of living. That bullet didn't take his life back then, and after searching for them for a long time without any news, he joined the frontlines. Six months ago, he got injured in the leg and was saved by Yuan Qing Yun.

Fang Li passed out drunk, and Chen Ke Hai picked up his coat but did not disturb anything inside it. He draped the coat over Fang Li. Acting as if he was heavily intoxicated, Fang Li left the place. Instructor Jin didn't find any suspicious points, but Fang Li remained concerned.
The next day, Fang Li took Instructor Jin to pick up Chen Ke Hai, claiming that he had found him a new job. Fang Li brought him to meet Li Shi Qun, who offered him a position at the Special Operations Headquarters. However, Chen Ke Hai declined the offer. Fang Li urgently tried to persuade Chen Ke Hai, explaining that he didn't have reliable subordinates at No. 76, and Chen Ke Hai was the only person he could trust. Li Shi Qun decided to let Chen Ke Hai follow Fang Li for the time being. Fang Li stated that he had just arrived and wanted to achieve something, and he had decided to promote Chen Ke Hai within a certain period of time.
Fang Li took Chen Ke Hai to the interrogation room and instructed him to kill the unyielding communists. Chen Ke Hai pulled the trigger, but the gun was empty. Fang Li was excited and explained that it was just a show for the people below. He truly believed in Chen Ke Hai's loyalty.
