Episode 5 recap: Lin Ru Lan angrily beats the drum of injustice.
Lin Ru Lan happily waits at the door for Constable Liu, her face filled with innocence as she claims to have witnesses. She believes that with the testimonies, the yamen will accept her case. Constable Liu is genuinely reluctant and advises Lin Ru Lan to give up and go home to live a peaceful life. However, Lin Ru Lan insists on seeking justice before being able to live a good life. Outside Huaizhou Prefecture, Lin Ru Lan, unwilling to give up, beats the drum of seeking justice.
Seven years ago, Liu San Niang danced gracefully, receiving admiration for her beauty and talent from everyone. Yuan Mei, the master of the Yuan family, was displeased with the praises and stepped forward to confront them. Meanwhile, Lin Ru Lan approached Constable Liu to inquire about the case, only to be told that without witnesses or physical evidence, the yamen wouldn't take action. Determined, Lin Ru Lan firmly decided to find the evidence herself, leaving Constable Liu sighing and shaking his head in helplessness.
Later, Lin Ru Lan sought out Ding Ru's parents, wanting to expose Wu Lian's true face and seek justice for herself and Ding Ru. Lin Ru Lan hoped that Ding Ru's parents would testify in court, but to her surprise, Ding Ru's father flatly refused, slamming the table. This incident would ruin Ding Ru's reputation if brought to court. However, Ding Ru's mother wanted to clear her daughter's name and wash away the injustice. Lin Ru Lan attempted to convince Ding Ru's father, but he only wished to avoid further trouble and sent her away.
Liu San Niang had her maid find Lin Ru Lan and invited her to meet. To Liu San Niang's surprise, it was this young maid who accused Wu Lian. It turned out that Liu San Niang had experienced a similar ordeal in the past, but unlike Lin Ru Lan, Wu Lian had not succeeded in harming her. Comforting Lin Ru Lan, Liu San Niang decides to testify in court on her behalf, determined to expose Wu Lian's true face.

Outside Huaizhou Prefecture, Lin Ru Lan, unwilling to give up, vigorously beat the drum of seeking justice. The loud sound caught the attention of the magistrate, and only then could the case be brought to court. News of the court hearing quickly reached Wu Lian's ears, and Wu Lian personally appeared, candidly admitting that the incident was indeed her fault. Wu Lian distorted the truth, falsely claiming that Lin Ru Lan repeatedly invited her for private guidance in embroidery. On the day the banquet ended, Lin Ru Lan allegedly intercepted her outside the study and invited her inside for guidance, and due to intoxication, something inappropriate happened. As these words were spoken, the crowd gathering at the door started directing their anger towards Lin Ru Lan, accusing her of seducing Wu Lian. Lin Ru Lan defended herself, and Liu San Niang appeared as a witness for her, but the rumors and gossip still leaned towards Wu Lian.
Through this case, Lin Ru Lan saw through the true nature of people. People lacked the ability to distinguish right from wrong. Liu San Niang and Lin Ru Lan embraced each other, bidding farewell and parting ways.
In the middle of the night, Liu Xin arranged a meeting with Dou Hua Xi Shi. However, just as the two met, Constable Liu was arrested and taken away. Dou Hua Xi Shi witnessed everything that happened. After Constable Liu's arrest, he was directly accused of embezzlement and had his leg broken. All of this was orchestrated by Wu Lian behind the scenes.
Before Liu San Niang left, Master Yuan of the Yuan family took care of the carriage and provided directions. The two said their goodbyes. As Liu San Niang sat in the carriage, tears streamed down her face. The departing Liu San Niang arrived at the Shihua Pavilion in Xunzhou Prefecture.
