Episode 4 recap: Lin Shuang sells her wedding ring, determined to cut ties with the scumbag. She spares no effort in fighting for custody rights.
Jiang Xi deliberately sent the tie to Wei Ming's home. Lin Shuang recalled the scene when Wei Ming confessed his feelings to her and couldn't help but stand up and express her unwillingness. She took off the ring from her hand and left. Lin Shuang went shopping and saw a necklace on a store clerk's hand, claiming that it was a gift from Jiang Xi. Jiang Xi often pawned luxury goods in her own store. Her boyfriend seemed decent, but he only gave her basic items. She realized that in the end, she would just end up exchanging a few handbags, which was quite pitiful. Lin Shuang admitted that she brought it upon herself and it was her own fault. Then she took off her wedding ring, exchanged it for money, and left.
After leaving the house, Lin Shuang found a lawyer. She expressed her desire for custody of their child and half ownership of the house. The lawyer explained that her house was depreciating in value due to renovations while she was getting promoted. Moreover, Wei Ming had already converted their marital assets into private property, so her chances of winning were currently slim. To obtain custody of the child, she would need to find a job during this period. Lin Shuang recalled the biggest mistake she made, which was giving up her job for the sake of the child.
Lin Shuang messaged Jiang Xi, expressing her desire to meet her. She stated that she could agree to the divorce, but the condition was that she must have custody of their child. She didn't want to be too concerned about money before, but now she had to do this for the sake of their child. If she really obtained the money, she could give a portion to Jiang Xi. Jiang Xi questioned if Lin Shuang had really understood their relationship. Lin Shuang replied that she no longer loved Wei Ming because she needed money now and that's why she wanted to cooperate with Jiang Xi. Jiang Xi said that she still hadn't understood. Lin Shuang mentioned that even if she were out of the picture, Jiang Xi wouldn't necessarily be in the picture. She didn't expect an answer from Jiang Xi at the moment. She just wanted her to think carefully about whether or not to cooperate because Wei Ming still didn't know about her selling those handbags.
Lin Shuang approached her father-in-law and mother-in-law, expressing concerns about the upcoming construction of an infectious disease hospital near the house Wei Ming bought. She believed it wouldn't be good for her if any problems arose. After hearing this, the elderly couple agreed that they might be frightened by the presence of infected individuals, so they agreed to cancel the house purchase. Jiang Xi recalled the first day of her interview when Wei Ming gave her his umbrella. In the end, she passed the interview. Later, he often comforted her and they had heart-to-heart talks, and it seemed like there was genuine affection growing between them. Wei Ming once said that the whole Ark was gray and she was the only color. She later asked Wei Ming why he didn't tell her about being married. Wei Ming explained that they were going to get divorced eventually, and their marriage was just in name only. Jiang Xi compromised after hearing his explanation.
Jiang Xi returned home and saw her younger brother playing games non-stop. Feeling unhappy, they started arguing. Unable to find common ground, Jiang Hai directly accused her of having dirty money. Jiang Xi responded by saying that she should just return all that money to herself. She had always been the outstanding one in the family, and her parents went to great lengths to support her, even selling their belongings. But what about her? She worked hard every day, so why was she still in such a miserable state? Jiang Hai listened to her words and said he understood.
Jiang Xi immediately took out her phone when she received a text message, and as expected, it was from Lin Shuang inquiring about her thoughts. Lin Shuang mentioned that the prices of the houses she had seen earlier were too high, and it didn't seem worth it to use all her savings to buy such a house. Wei Ming, however, didn't want to say much and went straight to sleep. Lin Shuang approached a coach and wanted Guo Guo to join the ice hockey team. The coach expressed that it wasn't suitable for girls, so Lin Shuang could only say that if her daughter couldn't handle it, she would withdraw, but for now, she wanted her to give it a try. And so, Guo Guo successfully joined the ice hockey team.
Lin Shuang's job interview was rejected, but Wei Ming didn't get angry at Jiang Xi for making a mistake. He even mentioned that everyone makes mistakes. Upon hearing these words, Jiang Xi immediately replied to Lin Shuang's message, saying that she didn't want to consider her proposal for the time being. Wei Ming told his subordinate to give Jiang Xi some more guidance when there's an opportunity and that he would also make her aware of her attitude problem.
