Episode 23 recap: Song Zhuo Wen arrested Mr. Ning.
It was a rainy night when Mr. Ning and his group killed a female student and placed something on her body. Song Zhuo Wen advised Xie Yue not to pay attention to others and assured her that time would heal everything. He also promised to pick her up after school. Xie Yue acknowledged that people called Song Zhuo Wen a bad person and a traitor, but she knew he would not harm her.
On the way, Song Zhuo Wen came across the crime scene where the female student was killed. The area was already surrounded by the police. At a glance, Song Zhuo Wen noticed that the hair they found was a wig, indicating a deliberate attempt to frame someone. The victim was Guan Kai's classmate, and coincidentally, she was the one who attacked Guan Kai in public the day before. Song Zhuo Wen didn't believe that Guan Kai was responsible, but if not Guan Xue, then someone else must be involved.
Guan Xue cursed angrily, realizing that someone was secretly hoping to create chaos among them. The security department was investigating the case, but Guan Xue instructed them to pretend they knew nothing and focus on the few fake repairmen. Mr. Ning found Guan Kai, who was terrified upon seeing him. How could he dare to show up? Guan Kai didn't want to implicate Guan Xue nor have any contact with him; they would pretend not to know each other.
However, Mr. Ning stated that Guan Kai knew too much, and they couldn't simply act as if they had never met. Li Dongju had already disappeared, and Mr. Ning had the power to make Guan Kai disappear as well, even in front of others. They searched through documents, but found no information regarding the Dongning Fortress. Song Zhuo Wen was frustrated and even smashed the cabinets.
Guan Kai went to find Song Zhuo Wen, but Xie Yue opened the door, leaving him bewildered for a moment. Song Zhuo Wen and Hu Bin were investigating an explosion case together, and Song Zhuo Wen keenly grasped the crucial information from the witness testimonies.
After finishing work, Song Zhuo Wen returned home and found Guan Kai waiting at his doorstep. Guan Kai claimed that Mr. Ning killed Li Dongju, which was a threat, implying that he would be the next target. Song Zhuo Wen asked Guan Kai to carefully recall Mr. Ning's facial features, but Guan Kai could only remember a few details.
Song Zhuo Wen pieced together clues from Guan Kai and the witness testimonies. However, Qian Chong Li believed they couldn't trust Guan Kai, especially Song Zhuo Wen's idea of protecting Guan Xue. Touched by compassion, Song Zhuo Wen even had a bolder idea. What if they let Guan Xue and the Japanese see the morally sensitive documents that were secretly filmed last time through the hands of the Military Statistics Bureau? How would they react?
Song Zhuo Wen received a message that the three suspects were heading to the soap shop and brought reinforcements. He informed Hu Bin as well. Mr. Ning and his group realized that their guns were missing and became anxious. Just as they were planning to escape, they were caught by the Special Operations Division, who also seized the burning documents. Song Zhuo Wen's plan was successful, but Mr. Ning managed to escape. He believed that there must be skilled individuals within the Special Operations Division who perhaps didn't want to capture him.
As they looked up, they saw their guns pointed at them with a note saying, "Stay away from the school!" Guan Xue showed the found item to Captain Asano, who ordered a pursuit of the suspects. Guan Xue felt relieved, knowing that at least the explosion case had been resolved by the Special Operations Division. Captain Asano was pleased with Song Zhuo Wen's findings and intended to assign him the task of protection.
Mr. Ning hadn't visited Guan Kai for several days, and Guan Kai worriedly approached Song Zhuo Wen. Song Zhuo Wen said that Mr. Ning probably wouldn't show up again and advised Guan Kai to drop out of school for a more peaceful life. Guan Kai agreed to transfer to another school, bringing joy to Guan Xue, who planned to send him to the Japanese school.
Song Zhuo Wen asked Guan Xue to help secure a spot for himself as well. Guan Xue agreed with a smiling face but secretly cursed him for taking advantage of the situation. The war situation grew tense, and the school required students to submit their iron calculation graduation scores. Guan Kai was searching frantically at home. Xie Yue was saddened by Li Dongju's death. Though she didn't like Li Dongju, she shouldn't have died.
Song Zhuo Wen asked her to transfer schools. Although Xie Yue was reluctant, she knew she had to comply with his wishes. Xie Yue reminded Song Zhuo Wen that he only had a pair of eyes and that there were always things he couldn't see.
