Episode 3 recap: Song Zhuowen joined the Special Operations Department.
Guan Kai returned home feeling depressed. He felt that Song Zhuowen had changed, but Guan Xue couldn't understand why. Guan Kai knew that people couldn't be judged as good or bad. Just like everyone said Guan Xue was bad, but she was the best in his heart. So, had Song Zhuowen changed for the better or for the worse?
The Special Operations Department recruited many new people. Some came here voluntarily, some were forced, and some were attracted by the higher pay. Among them was Song Zhuowen, who had transferred from the railway. Lao Jin took them around to familiarize themselves with the environment. The other two wanted to go underground to see what the real Special Operations Department was like. Song Zhuowen remained silent and followed them.
Among the three new recruits in the Special Operations Department, Guan Xue clearly had high expectations for Song Zhuowen. She repeatedly emphasized the need to assign different tasks to different people. Pan Yue saw Song Zhuowen and Tian Xiao Jiang lingering outside the interrogation room, so he let them go in and give it a try. As long as they could get the information, it would be enough. Tian Xiao Jiang was bold and had come from a real battlefield with guns and knives. He was fierce in action, and Song Zhuowen was afraid he would kill people, so he quickly intervened.
Soon, the three of them were kicked out by Hu Bin. None of their skills were put to use. Song Zhuowen was not very skilled with guns, so Hu Bin deliberately made things difficult for him and asked him to demonstrate his skills. Song Zhuowen was unwilling to use force and deliberately showed weakness. He didn't fight back against Hu Bin's attacks and took several punches before being knocked down by Hu Bin.

Hu Bin investigated Song Zhuowen's background and found that his records were fine, but he had been involved in several incidents, including accepting bribes from thieves and writing many repentance letters.
Song Zhuowen rested in the dormitory while Tian Xiao Jiang pretended to sleep on the bed, secretly using a mirror to monitor them. Hu Bin and Pan Yue drank together and talked about Guan Xue. Hu Bin was extremely frustrated because everyone could see the way she looked at Song Zhuowen.
Song Zhuowen searched for something in the dormitory but ended up empty-handed. The three of them were assigned to do manual labor. Everyone witnessed Hu Bin's provocations towards Song Zhuowen, but they also knew that he had Guan Xue covering for him. Pan Yue found out that Dr. Shi's wife was pregnant and immediately assumed that she was a Communist Party member's relative. He quickly gathered people for action, but Song Zhuowen and the other two were not involved.
Tian Xiao Jiang was dissatisfied and secretly eavesdropped on the conversation, then acted alone. Song Zhuowen realized that Dr. Shi's wife was exposed and quickly made a phone call to pass on the message, then rushed to the hospital. Guan Xue noticed that Tian Xiao Jiang acted on his own, but still didn't let him participate. Instead, she asked him to guard the entrance.
Mrs. Shi was in great danger, and Song Zhuowen could only go to Tian Xiao Jiang to gather information. Tian Xiao Jiang, frustrated by being unrecognized for his talent, thought of taking advantage of the relationship between Song Zhuowen and Guan Xue. Guan Xue used threats and incentives to question the nurse if she had seen Dr. Shi. Then they searched high and low for Mrs. Shi.
Song Zhuowen went to Guan Xue and told her that she should listen to Tian Xiao Jiang's idea. By separating the mothers and babies and claiming them one by one, they could surely find Mrs. Shi. While saying this, Song Zhuowen led Guan Xue to the balcony and showed her the scene of a mother with a child hurriedly leaving downstairs. He successfully shifted the suspicion onto Tian Xiao Jiang.
