Episode 7 recap: Lu Bu Ping ate poisonous mushrooms and mistook Pei Lan for his wife.
Chun Jin Rong became infatuated with Shi Zi as soon as he arrived at their house. Lu Bu Ping, who was intoxicated and unclear in his mind, referred to Pei Lan as his wife in front of everyone. Ling and Shi Zi, who had a feud, became extremely jealous of each other when they met. Shi Zi lied and claimed that Si Huang Zi was his younger brother, hoping for reconciliation, but Ling remained stubborn and ended up hitting Shi Zi.
When Si Huang Zi walked out of the house, he saw Shi Zi and Li Teng Yun fighting. The two blamed each other for losing Si Huang Zi. Seeing Si Huang Zi coming out of Chun's residence, they were shocked and assumed that he had been kidnapped by them. Si Huang Zi quickly explained that he had been taken in and cared for by Lady Chun's family after getting injured. Shi Zi was invited to come back, and everyone greeted each other again. Chun Jin Rong instantly became enamored with Shi Zi, who came from an illustrious family, and she showed great enthusiasm towards him. Lady Chun was surprised to see her eldest daughter transformed in such a short time.
Shi Zi noticed that Chun Jin Rong was wearing the hairpin he had given to Si Huang Zi, and he thought to himself that Si Huang Zi actually liked this type of woman. Lady Chun also realized that Shi Zi came from a noble background, which left her speechless. Shi Zi and Lady Chun bid each other farewell politely. The next day, Lady Chun invited Chun Jin Rong to have a meal, but Chun Jin Rong hadn't slept all night and was waiting eagerly for Shi Zi to visit again. Lady Chun said she was daydreaming and suggested they eat and go to the matchmaking bridge. Chun Pei Lan brought the food, but Lady Chun found the preserved vegetable cakes stale and told her to quickly throw them away before hastily leaving.
Chun Pei Lan invited her uncle Guo Zhen Sheng and Chun Ban Xia to have a meal. Seeing that they were eating preserved vegetable cakes again, Chun Ban Xia grabbed Guo Zhen Sheng and left, telling Pei Lan to quickly throw them away, as eating spoiled food could make them sick. However, Pei Lan was unwilling to throw them away, thinking that if one doesn't manage the household, they wouldn't understand the value of firewood, rice, oil, salt, soy sauce, vinegar, and tea. Lady Chun took her daughters' portraits to the matchmaking bridge, where coincidentally there was a parent of a boy of similar age to Chun Jin Rong. However, Lady Chun suddenly had an upset stomach and rushed to the restroom. Pei Lan went to buy groceries and found everything expensive, so she hesitated to buy. Upon learning that mushrooms could be picked in the West Mountain, she happily went to pick a lot of mushrooms and returned.
After Shi Zi returned, he kept speculating about the relationship between Si Huang Zi and Chun Ke Ling. Li Teng Yun added fuel to the fire, urging him to teach Chun Ke Ling a lesson. Eventually, they both revealed that they had been taken advantage of by Chun Ke Ling. Shi Zi, accompanied by Li Teng Yun, stormed over to confront Chun Ke Ling. However, when they arrived, Chun Ke Ling was drinking with Yao Wen and Yao Wu. Shi Zi's confidence waned upon seeing her, and he and Li Teng Yun were both scolded by Chun Ke Ling. In the end, they even ended up paying the bill for her.
Back home, Shi Zi couldn't accept this humiliation no matter what. If it weren't for Si Huang Zi's sake, how could he endure such grievances? Li Teng Yun gave him an idea. Since Si Huang Zi was interested in Chun Ke Ling's sister, they should just support their relationship. Once Chun Jin Rong entered the palace, Shi Zi would essentially have a connection in the palace. Upon hearing this, Shi Zi suddenly saw the light.
Pei Lan picked mushrooms, but Guo Zhen Sheng saw them and warned her not to eat them as they might be poisonous. He urged Pei Lan to throw them away, but Pei Lan couldn't bear to waste them and cooked and ate them herself. Lu Bu Ping couldn't resist and also tasted them, eating several bowls of rice with the mushrooms. He remarked that it was the most satisfying meal he had since arriving at Chun Fu.
While chopping firewood, Lu Bu Ping suddenly felt dizzy and saw stars before collapsing and foaming at the mouth. Pei Lan panicked and quickly sought Guo Zhen Sheng's help. After diagnosing the symptoms, Guo Zhen Sheng determined that they had been poisoned. Pei Lan herself was soon poisoned as well, but fortunately, their lives were not in danger.
To teach Pei Lan a lesson about not being so frugal, Du Ru Yu decided to give her a severe punishment. She colluded with Guo Zhen Sheng and their three daughters and staged a melodramatic scene in front of Pei Lan. When Pei Lan woke up and saw everyone gathered around her bed, she was informed that her time was limited. Overwhelmed with grief, Pei Lan also learned that Lu Bu Ping had passed away. Overwhelmed with sorrow, she bid farewell to each person and confessed the secret of her hidden savings to her mother. She burned paper money for Lu Bu Ping and went to say her final goodbye in her favorite kitchen. However, there she encountered Lu Bu Ping, who had come looking for water to drink. Thinking she had seen a ghost, Pei Lan prepared to commit suicide to be with him. The next day, Pei Lan woke up to find herself alive and saw the whole family sitting together neatly having breakfast, realizing it was all a false alarm.
I was unhappy watching the latest episode. Why is it that mothers-in-law always dote on their sons-in-law more than their own daughters? Why don't we see the mother-in-law doting on her daughter-in-law?
Even if they don't treat the daughter-in-law as their own daughter, there are often evil mother-in-laws who mistreat their daughters-in-law.
In this show, the way the matriarch treats Lu Bu Ping is the same as how she treats her second daughter, right?
Why is it that even though they both saved her life, the second daughter is treated so poorly? When Lu Bu Ping mentioned that everyone in the family bullies Pei Lan, I thought the matriarch would reflect on her actions, but no, the second daughter is still the one who is unappreciated. Before Lu Bu Ping arrived, she was the one doing the purchasing, cooking, laundry, and everything else, but she couldn't even receive a kind word. Meanwhile, the other three daughters often complain about the simplicity of the meals, but I haven't seen any of them doing any household chores. It's frustrating.
In the sixth episode, it's evident that the matriarch feeds Si Huang Zi, and the fourth daughter becomes jealous. Her mother is truly biased, showering Si Huang Zi with love while physically hitting her own daughters. It's supposed to be a comedy, but it's getting irritating. In reality, if a son-in-law mistreated a daughter, he wouldn't get away with it just by saying a few sweet words to the mother-in-law.
Also, the matriarch mentioned that it doesn't matter if a man is poor, as long as he has a good character. While character is important, if a woman only considers character when choosing a partner, the man would likely be poor before marriage, and the financial burden would only increase after starting a family, especially after having children. Just considering character, well, have you seen men marry without considering family background and only looking at character?
Anyway, I won't say more. I don't want to be accused of being materialistic. But personally, I have no intention of getting married. For those girls who are looking for a partner, be more practical. The better a woman is, the less she is valued. Look at Pei Lan. Does anyone in this family show her any compassion?
