Episode 1 recap: Wan Yu disguised herself as a man and infiltrated the competition.

The music competition, known as the Qu Le Grand Contest, is held every five years, but it prohibits women from participating. Wan Yu, determined to learn music, disguises herself as a man. She refuses to accept women being treated as inferior and aims to become the champion. She meets Guo Zhu and signs up for the competition.

Upon arrival, she finds a bustling crowd. Liu Ze Yan, known as the know-it-all, introduces Wan Yu to the top musicians present. There is Mu Bai, a skilled player of the Chinese zither with few words but handsome looks, and Qi Shuo, a mysterious figure who catches Liu Ze Yan's attention. Tu Qian Zhou appears at the selection contest, wielding a sword, and Wan Yu realizes she doesn't know him.

Shu Chen announces the rules of the music competition from the stage. He reveals that someone will attempt to assassinate him using hidden weapons. Tu Qian Zhou notices the assassin and intercepts the attack, but the assailant quickly disposes of a bag of money, falsely accusing Tu Qian Zhou of theft. All eyes turn to him, but to prevent the assassin from escaping, he sets off in pursuit. At that moment, Wan Yu stops Tu Qian Zhou from leaving, and in her attempt to prevent herself from falling, he accidentally touches her chest. To their surprise, Tu Qian Zhou discovers that Wan Yu is a woman, and Wan Yu accidentally reveals his hidden guard emblem while grabbing his collar. Once they regain their composure, Wan Yu slaps him in anger.

Unknown spies from the Southern Qi Kingdom infiltrate the music competition. During the night, the leader of Tu Qian Zhou's group is attacked, and in order to lure out the spies, Tu Qian Zhou decides to participate in the competition as well. Jia Yue Gong Zhu, a princess, arrives at the scene, and Jin Xin Xin shines in the competition. Tu Qian Zhou suggests to Shu Chen that he wants to compete against Wan Yu, suspecting her to be a spy from the Southern Qi Kingdom.
