Episode 19 recap: Bokiu admitted that he killed Su Xiaohuan's father.
Su Xiaohuan felt that the place Bokiu brought her to was filled with a strong demonic aura. Bokiu also told her that it was indeed inhabited by monsters, which frightened Su Xiaohuan, causing her to cling to Bokiu and not let go. Bokiu was actually quite happy to see Su Xiaohuan sticking by his side, as it made him feel reassured. Bokiu told Su Xiaohuan that many of the strong monsters here were actually killed by monster hunters.
People often accuse monster hunters of claiming that monsters eat humans, but in reality, the monsters have never eaten anyone. The Yao tribe is also a victim, as even if they don't consume humans, they still have to offer sacrifices to the monster hunters, and the imperial court even pays money to the hunters. The rumors about monsters eating humans are intentionally spread by certain individuals, all driven by human desires. As for who exactly is behind it all, Bokiu cannot say.
Later, Bokiu took Su Xiaohuan to eat, but she wasn't happy. Bokiu noticed that her expression was off, and Su Xiaohuan even forced a smile. At first, Bokiu teased Su Xiaohuan, saying that the noodles were made from human hearts and livers. Su Xiaohuan quickly spat it out in disgust, but Bokiu was just joking and said it was actually a type of spirit plant from the mountains.
Bokiu claimed that he had already let go of the past and asked if Su Xiaohuan had truly let go as well. At that moment, a little girl was led in by a middle-aged woman. Su Xiaohuan wanted to touch the girl's face but was told that she was the great-grandmother. At first, Su Xiaohuan didn't believe it until Bokiu referred to her as an elder, and then she believed it.
The little girl was a rejuvenated elder, so she didn't pay much attention to such matters. She smiled and asked Bokiu if he had brought another woman with him. Su Xiaohuan was surprised to learn that she was the seventh or eighth girl brought by Bokiu, and she felt a little jealous. After Bokiu went back, he cooked a meal for Su Xiaohuan, but the color looked very unappetizing. Su Xiaohuan was hesitant to eat it, but Bokiu took a bite himself and said it was delicious. Su Xiaohuan decided to give it a try but ended up spitting it out after tasting it because it was truly awful.
Su Xiaohuan recalled Bokiu's words about someone intentionally trying to provoke a war between humans and monsters, so she was certain that someone was interfering. She was curious about who it could be, but Bokiu unexpectedly said it was her own father. Bokiu was forced to kill him, not for his own sake, but to protect Su Xiaohuan from the harm of destiny. Su Xiaohuan didn't understand the meaning behind Bokiu's words, but she only knew that Bokiu was her father's killer, her enemy.
