Episode 6 recap: The truth behind the Zheng Ying case is gradually coming to light.
The results of the examination of the remains have come out, proving Zheng Dong Yu was right. The remains indeed do not belong to Zheng Ying. Now, in order to pry the truth from Huang Bing De, we need to first know whose remains they are. Zheng Dong Yu discovered the culprit from that year, Zhou Jian, who ran a red light and caused the accident that led to the destruction of Huang Bing De's family.
What's even more despicable is that Zhou Jian was clearly wealthy but refused to pay for medical expenses. At that time, Xu Mei had the opportunity to receive treatment at the hospital, but she lost that chance because of a difference of 50,000 yuan. Zhou Jian claimed that killing someone wouldn't cost much, but saving a life was an endless pit. His words ultimately led to his own downfall.
From this, it can be inferred that the remains should belong to Zhou Jian. Otherwise, they wouldn't have been repeatedly cremated, indicating how much the person who killed him hated him. Captain Li and Zheng Dong Yu analyzed that Huang Bing De was likely taking the blame for someone else, which is why he could describe the process of killing Zheng Ying so vividly.
That night, Zheng Dong Yu and Gao Yang analyzed the case at home. Huang Bing De's wife died in the hospital, so where did he spend the 300,000 yuan he received? Zheng Dong Yu analyzed that Huang Bing De's child was likely born that year, which would explain everything.
Zheng Dong Yu quickly confirmed her inference. She found in the hospital's database that Huang Bing De's child was still alive—a girl. Captain Li's investigation revealed that Huang Bing De's daughter was adopted by Chen Jing Ming, who was a college classmate of Chen Jing Ming. Therefore, Huang Bing De's unwavering loyalty was most likely a way of repaying the debt, and his benefactor was Chen Jing Ming.
But Gao Yang doesn't understand why Chen Jing Ming would kill Zheng Ying. They and Captain Li have been close friends for many years, but Captain Li can't answer that question now. He only advises Gao Yang not to tell Zheng Dong Yu about this matter, as he's concerned that she wouldn't be able to handle it. Gao Yang can tell that Captain Li himself is also struggling to accept it.
Gao Yang recalls the cigar Liu Qing smoked back in the day. He remembers that when he followed Chen Xue Ying home last time, he saw Chen Jing Ming smoking as well. So he deliberately went to see Chen Xue Ying, pretending that his boss, whom he was going to meet, liked cigars but he didn't understand them. He mentioned that he had seen Chen Jing Ming smoking and asked Chen Xue Ying to help him get two cigars. Chen Xue Ying, being innocent, readily agreed and even told Gao Yang that her father's cigars were custom-made exclusively for him and that he was the only one in the city who had them.
After obtaining the cigars, Gao Yang met with Captain Li, and they concluded that Chen Jing Ming had lied. Gao Yang came up with a bold speculation: Liu Qing and Chen Jing Ming were working together. When Liu Qing received money, it was laundered through Chen Jing Ming's company. After Liu Qing died, Chen Jing Ming kept that money for himself. Lei Nai Wu discovered Chen Jing Ming's deceitful actions and, after being released from prison, went to him demanding his share of the money. However, they couldn't reach an agreement, so Lei Nai Wu came up with the idea of kidnapping Chen Xue Ying. When Qin Yong learned that Chen Xue Ying was Chen Jing Ming's daughter, he raised the price significantly. But Lei Nai Wu couldn't come up with that much money, so he leaked Qin Yong's information to Chen Jing Ming. This way, everything that happened falls into place.
As for Huang Bing De, he witnessed Chen Jing Ming killing Zheng Ying back then, so he knows exactly what happened at the scene and willingly took the blame for someone else.
