Episode 18 recap: The departure of the old friend devastated Cheng Bing.
Shao Xiaoyun brought a package that Shao Gang had left behind. Cheng Bing sent it back to Pan Da Hai for testing, and it indeed had Wang Da Yong's biological traces on it. While Cheng Bing was searching around, he heard someone say that Old Chen had saved a nearly frozen person on the mountain a couple of years ago. It might be the same person.
Cheng Bing insisted on going into the mountains and almost froze to death but was rescued by Old Chen. Cheng Bing showed Old Chen Wang Da Yong's photo and Old Chen confirmed that he had indeed saved someone like that a couple of years ago, and the person stayed for over a month before leaving. Qi Shu was not doing well, and everyone came to the hospital to accompany Qi Shu.
By the time Cheng Bing rushed back, Qi Shu had already passed away. Cheng Bing attended Qi Shu's memorial service and afterwards talked to Pan Da Hai about the past. Back then, people from disadvantaged backgrounds were often bullied, and to avoid being bullied, one had to be tougher than others. One day, Qi Shu saw Cheng Bing involved in a fight, took away the knife, and told Cheng Bing to go back to school.
Later, Qi Shu encouraged Cheng Bing to join the military, and after returning, Cheng Bing put on the same police uniform as him. Cheng Bing stayed alone with Liu Zi, spending most of his time drinking, which worried everyone. Pan Da Hai thought it would be better for Cheng Bing to take a break and asked Liu Zi to keep an eye on him.
Cheng Bing stayed at Qi Shu's grave, and Old Chen also came, talking about his experience when he first joined the Third Company. Old Chen acknowledged that Cheng Bing was going through a tough time but reminded him that there was still a long way to go. Old Chen received a phone call informing him that something had happened at Aunt Seven's house, so Cheng Bing and the others hurried back.
Two men came looking for debt repayment, claiming that Uncle One's son owed them money. Old Chen made a phone call to confirm and said he would get them the money. Aunt Seven was also heartbroken. She had planned to secretly help her son repay the debt, but Qi Shu found out, got angry, and then passed away.
Aunt Seven said that as soon as Qi Shu's compensation money came in, she immediately paid it back to those men. Cheng Bing learned that Aunt Seven hadn't had time to deal with the compensation money and said he would go to the bureau to inquire about it.
Cheng Bing went to ask about it, but the result was that it was classified as a death due to illness, not work-related injury. The staff explained that Qi Shu's situation did not meet the criteria for work-related injury, so it couldn't be recognized as such. Pan Da Hai found out about this and came to Cheng Bing, saying that he would compensate Aunt Seven with his own money. Cheng Bing felt that it was different.
Tong Tong came to find Cheng Bing and asked him to sign a document to sever their father-daughter relationship. She said that if Cheng Bing signed, she would pass the political review at the National Defense Academy. Cheng Bing stated that the law wouldn't recognize it, but he would compensate her in the future.
Tong Tong said she didn't need his compensation; his compensation was just to make himself feel better. She asked Cheng Bing to sign. Cheng Bing had no choice but to sign. Cheng Bing went to see Zhou Zi to observe the situation. He wanted to earn more money. Secretary Zhao's son and his gang were bullying a girl here.
Cheng Bing intervened and asked everyone to leave. He fought with Secretary Zhao's son, and it turned out that those people were no match for Cheng Bing. Cheng Bing asked him to call Secretary Zhao, and Pan Da Hai came with Secretary Zhao. Secretary Zhao's son quickly claimed it was a misunderstanding. Secretary Zhao told them to investigate and punish if necessary.
Cheng Bing was taken by Zhou Zi and his group to a nursing home, claiming it belonged to an individual and needed to be demolished, but they were unwilling to leave. This nursing home was where Wang Da Yong's mother resided, and she mistook Cheng Bing for Wang Da Yong.
When Zhou Zi and his group realized that Cheng Bing was acquainted with Wang Da Yong's mother, they quickly left. Cheng Bing learned that Wang Er Yong's daughter, Wang Miao Miao, used to visit Wang Da Yong's mother frequently.
The country should produce more films like this to instill a positive spirit and promote the right values. Chinese people have always been a nation of self-improvement and resilience, a nation that is brave in the face of struggle.
Although the process of pursuing the killer is arduous and full of hardships, individuals and families suffer irreversible damage. It is precisely in such situations that we must face them with courage, without becoming disheartened.
Even in the face of countless hardships, we will steadily move forward, step by step, and gradually strengthen our inner selves, making ourselves stronger.
The case has been solved, and Cheng Bing's imprisonment was a move by the bureau chief to promote his own people and the director general's way of shifting blame to control public opinion!
In this episode, when Cheng Bing said Pan Da Hai should call him "Uncle Master," I finally understood the relationship. Pan is the bureau chief's disciple, and Cheng is the old man's disciple.
Cheng has always outperformed Pan, so without this incident, Cheng's promotion to deputy squadron leader would have been a sure thing. Based on Cheng Bing's previous attitude in the inspection team, it's impossible for him to receive such a heavy sentence.
Moreover, the dissolution of the Third Squad is definitely the result of someone's mischief behind the scenes. On the other hand, the attitude of the director general of the Public Security Department is also aimed at pushing someone forward to quell public opinion.
The character Wang Da Yong is complex. He embodies both the negative aspects brought about by his dysfunctional family (Cheng Bing mentioned that he also had a troubled family background and made mistakes when he was young, but he found his light and redemption in Qi Shu), as well as the positive side towards women, especially those who are mothers, due to his own family experiences.
However, even after living for several years, as seen from his habit of carrying rough stones and guns even when taking a shower, he has a strong sense of self-defense and is always prepared to run away.
The first three episodes explained the background of the three teams, and in the next two episodes, the emotions of the main characters transferred onto me as a viewer.
The portrayal of their work and life after regaining their fighting spirit feels very genuine and realistic. On one hand, there is the process of overcoming obstacles, and on the other hand, it depicts the lives of each individual.
The difficulties need not be elaborated upon, but the clarity of their determination and sense of responsibility, the emotions that don't want their comrades' lives to be disrupted again, truly touch the heart.
Walking along the path, it's uncertain where it leads in reality. That's the most lingering aspect of "This drama is based on real events," which leaves one unable to let go.
