Episode 2 recap: Cheng Bing returned without achieving anything.
To evade the police pursuit, Wang Da Yong continued to flee with his younger brother, Wang Er Yong. They took advantage of the nighttime and ran to their brother's house, hoping for assistance. During the day, police cars were patrolling the streets, and Pan Da Hai continued his investigation with Cheng Bing to track down the murderer. Pan Da Hai was deeply concerned about the situation and spoke with eyewitnesses. After hearing their accounts, they quickly determined that Wang Da Yong had been in the car with his younger brother.
After observing from the sidelines for a while, Cheng Bing began using unconventional methods to analyze the case. He started to believe that the killer had no intention of fleeing and was still hiding in the city. This meant there was still a chance to apprehend them. At this point, Cheng Bing was ready to help his good friend remove the burden from his heart. However, Pan Da Hai couldn't let go of his pride and continued to argue with Cheng Bing.
Meanwhile, Wang Da Yong and his younger brother had no plans to escape. They sought refuge in an old friend's house. During the daytime, Wang Da Yong's brother expressed concerns about betrayal, but Wang Da Yong firmly believed that his friend wouldn't dare to do so because of the seven murder cases he had been involved in.
After finishing the inspections on the streets, Cheng Bing didn't forget to conduct door-to-door interviews with others, not letting go of any suspects. Finally, in the internet cafe's surveillance footage, he spotted two figures. Based on these clues, Cheng Bing confirmed that Wang Da Yong and his companions were still in the city.
Taking advantage of everyone being asleep, Xiao Liu silently placed a blanket over Wang Da Yong and started questioning his intentions. Wang Da Yong realized that Xiao Liu was worried about him leaking information, so he assured him that he would keep everything a secret. Then, without hesitation, Wang Da Yong took out a gold chain and sought Xiao Liu's help.
After leaving, Xiao Liu took the gold chain that Wang Da Yong had given him and planned to exchange it for money. Wang Da Yong understood that Xiao Liu urgently needed money, so he reluctantly agreed to accept it. On the other hand, Cheng Bing concluded that the perpetrator had left all the cash at the crime scene, and the only valuable item they had was the gold chain around their neck. Without wasting time, Cheng Bing instructed others to prepare for investigations at various stores.
After successfully exchanging the money, Xiao Liu counted it several times and brought it back. Wang Da Yong, sitting beside him, understood the hardships his old friend had been through. He generously gave him a significant portion of the money and agreed to let him see the real gun he had. Meanwhile, Cheng Bing made a special trip back home. Quietly going upstairs, he took the initiative to check on his daughter, who was lying in bed. When his daughter saw him return, she excitedly grabbed his hand and they went to eat cake together. Cheng Bing saw his daughter's concern about him and his wife, and he solemnly vowed that he would never divorce. However, his wife quickly emerged and took their daughter inside to sleep, completely ignoring her husband.
Having been rejected, Cheng Bing had to sleep on the couch that night. The next day, he woke up early and went to buy food for his family. While in the kitchen, his wife suddenly brought up their conversation from before. Cheng Bing immediately disagreed and, after finishing the call, prepared to resume his investigation.
Upon meeting someone, Cheng Bing realized that they had melted the gold chain into gold bars. He interrogated them for a while until they confessed to the situation with the gold chain, providing a detailed description of the seller. After gathering this information, Cheng Bing discovered that the person depicted in the portrait was Wang Da Yong's friend. He immediately drove to the vicinity of his friend's house to prepare for an arrest. Meanwhile, Xiao Liu remained unaware of the situation and, when he was apprehended, he intended to continue protecting his accomplice. Cheng Bing confronted him directly, and in order to reduce his own culpability, Xiao Liu revealed his old friend's identity. However, when the police went to apprehend him, they found that he had already fled. At this point, Cheng Bing received a message from Pan Da Hai, which provided information about the murderer. But when they arrived at the location, they realized they had captured the wrong person, leaving them dejected and disheartened.
While sitting down to eat with Pan Da Hai, Cheng Bing suddenly felt that something was amiss about the events of the previous night. He began to ponder where the problem might lie when news arrived that the suspect had fled the neighborhood unexpectedly.
The cost of that punch was tremendous, as it directly pushed him and the Third Division to rock bottom. Perhaps, this is where Cheng Bing's true life begins... Undoubtedly, he has experienced two different lives, from the pinnacle to the depths, enduring a decade of torment and self-reflection.
The key point is that he managed to rise again after ten years... (Of course, we have a god's-eye view, and he is somewhat unlucky. That punch was merely coincidental; the real cause originated from the fists and kicks of the crowd before.)
Da Yong's anti-detection abilities are incredibly strong and he is also very clever. That's why he hasn't been caught by the police all this time. The fact that he was let go by the Second Division, despite being mocked, shows that it's not because the Second Division is incompetent, but rather because the opposition is formidable.
In the past, there were several instances where the two brothers were caught due to Er Yong's interference. I suppose the difficulty of the police capturing Da Yong will significantly increase in the future.
The pacing is not slow, and there's a substantial amount of information. The attention to detail is also well-done. By the end of the first episode, the character profiles of the members of the three main teams have been established.
It's evident that the female character, Lin Ying, will undergo growth and changes in the subsequent story, which is highly anticipated. By the end of the second episode, the portrayal of the antagonist is also complete, establishing a dualistic confrontation.
The villains are intelligent, and the flaws of the heroes are also visible, giving the characters depth.
Having the same story adapted into both a movie and a TV drama simultaneously inevitably leads to comparisons. However, I believe that both works have their own merits. The movie left a profound impact on me after watching it.
In the TV drama, the pacing was indeed slow in the beginning, but it picked up its suspenseful rhythm from the second episode onwards. Personally, I still prefer the TV drama because it has the space to delve into the life trajectories of each character.
Wang Da Yong is like a prophet! In the previous episode, he said, "Little brother, you'll eventually die at the hands of a woman," and these two brothers are so agile and nimble! Chen Bing knows how to handle things; after all, he must cooperate with the members of the Second Brigade for cases like this.
And this Pan Da Hai has been chasing after those two brothers for half a year. It's like stirring up a hornet's nest, right? They escaped! I must catch those two brothers. Chen Bing is once again pondering the suspects' thoughts. After all the effort they put into discarding the car in this location, it's just a diversion.
They must still be nearby, not leaving the city. They're definitely hiding somewhere else. The two of them have harmed each other, haha. In the future, their roles will undergo a major reversal, with one becoming the captain of the Criminal Police Brigade and the other becoming a laborer or being released from prison.
Chen Bing: "I'll give you a taste of what the Third Brigade is capable of." Haha, that hits the mark, and Old Pan is so infuriated that he spits blood. Pay attention to Da Yong, who is now closely watching outside the window. This place should be not far from where they abandoned the car.
I think this Old Liu should shut up. The more questions you ask, the faster you'll die, you know? That bulky computer from the 90s really has a nostalgic feel, and back then, surveillance facilities weren't so widely available. Old Liu is scared!
And Da Yong clearly doesn't trust Old Liu either, so he's keeping an eye on him while his little brother, Er? He doesn't understand anything and is sound asleep. Remember, Chen Bing also knows about the big gold chain in the entire city of Liu.
Such a thick chain is quite rare in this city.
Let's talk about the protagonist's name in the non-spicy menu. Instead of calling him Cheng Dui, I prefer the name Cheng Da. In fact, the "X Team" term only became popular after 2000. In the earlier days, most of the detectives were rough around the edges, and calling the leader Cheng Da seems to fit the character better.
Cheng Dui always gives off a refined vibe...
