Episode 17 recap: Shen Chen drives away Gu Ming Ze.
Tian Tian's aunt deliberately made a banner and placed it at the entrance of the hospital. Shen Chen saw it and was very unhappy, thinking that it was bad enough that Gu Ming Ze came, and now everyone was being so enthusiastic. Shen Mi also learned about Gu Ming Ze coming to work at the hospital and called Tian Tian out, questioning why Gu Ming Ze had refused before but was now coming.
Tian Tian said she didn't know what Gu Ming Ze was thinking but felt it was a good thing that he came. Shen Mi approached Shen Chen, suggesting that they were brothers and it was time for them to present a united front. Shen Chen disagreed, considering Shen Mi his biggest rival in love.
Shen Chen went back to his father and showed him the banner at the Tianlin Animal Hospital, explaining that it was invested in by Shen Mi. He pointed out that Gu Ming Ze, who worked in their company's research and development department, was now helping at Shen Mi's hospital. Shen Chen stated that if their father couldn't handle the situation, he would take care of it himself and resolve the issue.
The next day, Gu Ming Ze claimed that there was suddenly a lot of work in the research and development department, so he couldn't come anymore. Many customers who came because of Gu Ming Ze also stopped coming, and the hospital became quiet and empty. Shen Chen believed that someone at the hospital didn't want Gu Ming Ze to come. Tian Tian's aunt thought it was Shen Chen because he seemed very angry when he saw Gu Ming Ze. Shen Chen argued that he was just a small doctor, and Tian Tian agreed that it didn't seem like something he would do.
Tian Tian approached Shen Mi and asked if he was the one who told Gu Ming Ze not to come. She felt that they had finally managed to increase the business, but now Shen Mi was ruining it. Shen Mi asked Tian Tian if she could bring Gu Ming Ze from Green River, and if not, it would be temporary. He pointed out that the customers would come because of Gu Ming Ze and leave because of him. He also mentioned that despite the high number of customers who came yesterday, only two signed up for membership cards, resulting in a low conversion rate.
Tian Tian was at a loss for words.
Shen Mi had someone investigate the company's collaboration with Thailand and came to see Gu Ming Ze. Gu Ming Ze wanted the research data from a year ago, so Shen Mi made a phone call and had someone compile it to give to Gu Ming Ze.
Shen Mi and Gu Ming Ze discussed these matters, and Gu Ming Ze couldn't understand why Shen Mi would hand over the research department to someone else at such a critical time. Shen Mi explained that his goal was simply to develop new drugs and open up the patents for those drugs so that anyone could produce them, thus lowering the prices. His purpose was to ensure that pets could afford medical treatment.
Gu Ming Ze didn't expect Shen Mi to have such intentions regarding the new drugs and acknowledged that aspect of Shen Mi's vision. However, he couldn't understand why Shen Mi would let Tian Tian become his dog's personal doctor, questioning Shen Mi's personal life choices.
Shen Mi brushed off the topic, stating that it was his own business and he didn't want to discuss it with Gu Ming Ze. Han Shu expressed understanding of Shen Mi's intentions and advised him not to engage in meaningless actions, as it could lead to undesirable consequences if their father found out. Gu Ming Ze informed Shen Hong Yuan about the progress of the new drugs, explaining that they were effective in treatment but had strong side effects.
Shen Hong Yuan believed that effectiveness was what mattered and that there were no drugs without side effects. Gu Ming Ze mentioned a patent discussed at the Veterinary Medicine Summit, suggesting that if they could obtain that patent, they could reduce the side effects. Shen Hong Yuan assured him that he would take care of it.
Tian Tian went to find Pangu Dog Kennel but got lost and mistakenly thought the forest had wild boars, which frightened her. Shen Mi found Tian Tian and realized that they had stumbled upon a pig that had escaped from someone's home. The pig's owner took Tian Tian and the others back to their place temporarily. The piglet in their home was sick, so Tian Tian called her father to inquire about the treatment method, and indeed, the piglet's condition stabilized with the given advice.
