Episode 11 recap: Mr. Yan turned danger into safety.
Zhou Xiaofeng expressed his belief in Lin Yi's skills, stating that the surgery he performed couldn't have resulted in severe bleeding. Lin Yi found Zhou Xiaofeng's behavior unusual today, as he unexpectedly took the blame upon himself. Lin Yi asked Zhou Xiaofeng why he didn't stop Director Bai from performing the surgery if he knew that the patient was not suitable for minimally invasive surgery.
Director Jiang advised Lin Yi to reflect on how much he has been supported since joining the hospital. Finally, Mr. Yan woke up, but his condition was not good, as he hadn't urinated. Lin Yi examined him and discovered that Mr. Yan had pericardial effusion. Director Wang informed Director Cui, stating that it was an order from the leadership and any important matters must be reported immediately.
Director Cui called a meeting to discuss possible solutions. Director Bai believed that the pericardial effusion issue was unrelated to their surgery and blamed it on Lin Yi's operation. Director Wang suggested a second surgery as a possible solution, while Fang Xiaoran believed that the issue was not surgical and a second operation was unnecessary.
Lin Yi also agreed with Fang Xiaoran's viewpoint, stating that a second surgery was indeed unnecessary. Director Bai suggested caution at this point, considering a second surgery as the best current option. Zhou Xiaofeng expressed his trust in Lin Yi's skills, believing that the surgery he performed couldn't have resulted in severe bleeding.
After much consideration, Zhou Xiaofeng leaned towards conservative treatment. Director Cui asked Zhou Xiaofeng if he was confident, and after assessing Mr. Yan's current condition, Zhou Xiaofeng stated that if they could control the situation within 24 hours, there wouldn't be any problems.
Director Cui agreed and asked Fang Xiaoran to assist Zhou Xiaofeng. Director Bai questioned Zhou Xiaofeng's thinking, wondering why they had to bring the patient to the Department of Internal Medicine when they were already in the surgical department. Zhou Xiaofeng explained that Director Bai initially performed minimally invasive surgery on Mr. Yan with the hope of resolving the issue and allowing him to be discharged. Since that goal hadn't been achieved, they needed to consider the patient's well-being and resolve the matter as soon as possible.
Director Bai mentioned the incident when Fang Xiaoran went to the operating room, expressing his surprise that he hadn't informed Director Cui and wondering how Director Cui came to know about it. Zhou Xiaofeng admitted that they hadn't been paying attention, and Director Bai remarked that they indeed had a great understanding as siblings. Zhou Xiaofeng suggested that Lin Yi and Fang Xiaoran take a rest while they stayed here. He declared it as his own military order, but Lin Yi and Fang Xiaoran refused, and in the end, they agreed to take turns to watch over Mr. Yan.
Lin Yi found Zhou Xiaofeng's behavior unusual today, as he unexpectedly took the blame upon himself. Lin Yi asked Zhou Xiaofeng why he didn't stop Director Bai from performing the surgery when he clearly knew that the patient was not suitable for minimally invasive surgery. Zhou Xiaofeng admitted that he had selfish motives at the time.
Lin Yi asked Fang Xiaoran why she was the first one to come find him at that time. Fang Xiaoran explained that she immediately thought of Lin Yi. The next day, Mr. Yan's condition had improved, and everyone was happy about it.
Mr. Yan mentioned that the test results hadn't come out yet and complained about the difficulties caused by Xiao, a staff member in the laboratory. Every time Mr. Yan went to collect the reports, Xiao would scold him. Coincidentally, Lin Yi and Zhou Xiaofeng saw Xiao playing basketball and decided to confront him as a team. They managed to defeat him. Fang Xiaoran went home and told her mother about Zhou Xiaofeng's actions this time, including the incident of asking her to retrieve a cardiac ultrasound device from the operating room. Fang Xiaoran's mother immediately understood Zhou Xiaofeng's intentions.
Director Cao called Lin Yi and informed him that he had a student who had joined an excellent heart transplant team. He asked Lin Yi to contact him. Lin Yi encountered a patient with a hereditary disease and insisted that the patient's son should also undergo an examination. Zhou Xiaofeng arranged the tests and assured that his son was healthy and not all hereditary diseases were guaranteed to be inherited.
Lin Yi asked Zhou Xiaofeng if people with a history of hereditary diseases could really live like normal individuals. Lin Yi invited Fang Xiaoran for a meal and they discussed their experiences as doctors. Both of their fathers had passed away early. Director Jiang mentioned that Director Bai had issued a hospital-wide criticism and asked Lin Yi to reflect and make a self-critique. He asked Lin Yi to consider how much support he had received since joining the hospital.
