Episode 15 recap: Zhou Xiaofeng apologized to Fang Xiaoran.
Qiang Wei came to the intensive care unit to visit Jian Bo. They were engaged and went out to play when they had a car accident. Jian Bo suffered severe injuries and became vegetative, while Qiang Wei was lucky to only sustain minor injuries. Qiang Wei fainted, and Zhou Xiaofeng came over to examine him and found that Qiang Wei had mitral valve prolapse, suggesting that he should be transferred to the surgery department.
Lin Yi explained the situation to Qiang Wei and believed that surgery should be performed now. However, Qiang Wei disagreed, feeling that if Jian Bo couldn't wake up, then there was no meaning in him living either. Lin Yi approached Zhou Xiaofeng to complain, and Fang Xiaoran happened to be there as well. Lin Yi brought a piece of chocolate for Fang Xiaoran, hoping that Fang Xiaoran could persuade Qiang Wei.
Fang Xiaoran agreed. Fang Xiaoran came to talk to Qiang Wei, and coincidentally, Qiang Wei was about to go see Jian Bo. Fang Xiaoran found a wheelchair and pushed Qiang Wei there together.
Fang Xiaoran asked Qiang Wei about their situation, and Qiang Wei mentioned that he grew up in an orphanage as an orphan. However, because he had congenital heart disease, nobody wanted to adopt him. After graduating from vocational school, he became an apprentice at a hair salon. Only Jian Bo treated him well. They had been in a relationship for several years and had planned to get married, but then this accident happened.
On that day, Qiang Wei and Jian Bo went out to play, and the seatbelt in Qiang Wei's position was broken, so Jian Bo switched seats with him. Qiang Wei blamed himself and felt that if they hadn't switched seats, Jian Bo wouldn't have ended up like this.
Fang Xiaoran felt that she couldn't persuade Qiang Wei at all, while Lin Yi believed that they could mention the possibility of Jian Bo's improvement, which might convince Qiang Wei to agree to the surgery. However, Zhou Xiaofeng disagreed, believing that they shouldn't deceive the patient, and Qiang Wei would eventually find out.
Lin Yi felt that they couldn't worry about that much now and that Qiang Wei needed to undergo surgery first. Qiang Wei had acute heart failure, and Lin Yi came to rescue him, saying that if it happened again, Qiang Wei might not survive. However, Qiang Wei still refused to undergo surgery.
Lin Yi approached Luo Zhuren, the neurosurgeon, hoping that Luo Zhuren could help talk to Qiang Wei and explain that there is a possibility of Jian Bo's improvement.
Luo Zhuren disagreed and believed that surgery carries risks, and if something really went wrong, they would have endless troubles. Fang Xiaoran helped persuade, and Luo Zhuren finally agreed. Luo Zhuren came to talk to Qiang Wei and told him that Jian Bo might improve. Qiang Wei was very happy and agreed to undergo surgery. Zhou Xiaofeng happened to see this and believed that Lin Yi and Fang Xiaoran would regret it in the future.
Jian Bo's mother was here taking care of Qiang Wei, and she also agreed to go along with this well-intentioned lie, and Zhou Xiaofeng didn't expose it. Qiang Wei heard about a procedure called mitral valve clipping that doesn't require surgery, so he came to ask Zhou Xiaofeng about it.
Zhou Xiaofeng carefully explained to Qiang Wei that, considering his age and condition, surgery would be better. However, Qiang Wei disagreed, thinking that mitral valve clipping would have a faster recovery, allowing him to take care of Jian Bo earlier. Director Bai learned about this and believed that if the patient had a request, they should fulfill it, and the technique was entirely feasible. Lin Yi was furious when he found out about this and felt that Zhou Xiaofeng had previously disagreed with their lie but now took the patient away.
Zhou Xiaofeng explained that Qiang Wei came to him, and he had a responsibility to explain it clearly to Qiang Wei. He also told Qiang Wei that surgery would be better. However, Lin Yi didn't believe him. Fang Xiaoran spoke up for Zhou Xiaofeng, but Zhou Xiaofeng ignored her, remembering what Fang Zhuqing had said before.
Zhou Xiaofeng deliberately bought something that Fang Xiaoran liked to eat and brought it to her, feeling that he had been in the wrong before. Fang Xiaoran said she had already forgotten about it. Zhou Xiaofeng told Fang Xiaoran that since she had just arrived at the hospital, she should focus on her own duties and not get too involved in other matters.
Fang Xiaoran mentioned the previous incident, and her mother also felt guilty, but Zhou Xiaofeng didn't say anything.
In the opening of the first episode, Director Lin and Dr. Lin's confrontation, is it real? A doctor's words should be based on evidence. Why would they say that a patient only needs one stent?
What evidence supports the claim that a stent can last for 20 years after surgery? How can conclusions be drawn without any basis? Director Zhou follows the procedures, and it's common sense that patients cannot be forced to stay if they want to leave.
When a patient visits the emergency room, their signature serves as a legal basis, and doctors have the duty to inform. The choice of treatment or giving up is a basic right of the individual!
I believe Director Lin should know that the screenwriter may be ignorant about medicine, but they should have basic knowledge before writing a drama!
Medical personnel are the most challenging group of people. You can delay any administrative tasks, but you can't delay a surgery. Patients cannot wait. Except for the higher income of expert professors, the income of medical personnel is incomparable to that of government officials.
Strengthening the system and improving the treatment of medical personnel is crucial. We shouldn't only pay attention to healthcare when something goes wrong. It's terrifying to let people who don't understand healthcare manage it!
There are hardly any doctors nowadays who are as good and responsible as this one. Experienced doctors are scarce, and after all sorts of examinations, they still don't know what the problem is. They just say "observe." How many surgeons who perform surgeries don't accept red envelopes?
They have to be paid multiple times—for the medical consultation, for the registration, and even for the surgery itself. The medical ethics have long been lost somewhere.
